It costs money, lots of money to interview, hire and train net new employees plus the productivity losses it takes before they reach full efficiency. Those costs are real and typically more than the costs associated with helping someone already on the payroll, fully trained, ready to go to work relocate. About 50% of them are eligible to collect 60 to 65% of their incomes as a pension including medical and dental. Assembly plants are job juggernauts. GM has about 1,500 employees at the Detroit plant, 1,600 at the Lordstown factory and 2,500 in Oshawa. If anything Doug would cut the number of seats for the next election not increase them and if there were changes made he would likely align provincial ridings with federal ridings if they are not already.

It's too much of a stretch for you to ever grasp the concept of the savings and increased effectiveness of a smaller council over 4 years. Wow! Who would have thought... the election happened on schedule and went just fine with a much smaller council, huge savings over the next 4 years in spite of the city councillors whining about it. You will never ever if you live to 500 be able to grasp the workings of business. Doug was sworn in at the end of June and brought the legislature back to work on July 11th. They have been working at turning around Wynnebags screw-ups for just over 4 months. Only you could be stupid enough to think GM would make a decision like this in that 4 months time. Reports are GM is undergoing a restructure globally. Yup somebody at GM sits down and plans that out over the weekend. This would have been in motion LONG ago while they were still looking at Wynnebags Ontario and saw a lousy unfriendly business environment and that environment doing nothing but getting worse.

The city challenged it in court and one lower court judge said he couldn't but the higher court said he could... short memory eh Fail. Not vindictive timing. It was either then or face another 4 years of unnecessary expense and ineffective city government.
