Thank you to GRTA board members Victor Braun, Jerry Nezworski, Karen Gullan, Kami & Jason Haffenbredl, Susan Kangas, Steve Hamilton, and Knute Stienert for your help in getting our reroute submitted to the MDNR as a new trail proposal.  They have been with us every step of the way including meetings on this exact route.  So, we expect a thorough review and expedited approval.  We hope to establish the off-road groomed section of this reroute as permanent, with snowmobile-only easements to be purchased down the road with applicable private landowners.  The GRTA graciously thanks the Gogebic County Road Commission, City of Wakefield Manager Robert Brown and the city council, Jeff Randle Bessemer Township Supervisor and their board, MDNR CO Jenni Hansen, Gogebic County Sherriff's Office Detective Sargent Jesse Yesney, Gogebic County Sherriff's Office Recreational Officer Josh Elias, Wakefield Chamber of Commerce, Gogebic County Commissioners, Greg Markkanen for State Representative, and the Michigan DNR for their support of snowmobiling.  We aren't out of the woods yet as we have projects to complete to make it a reality.  But, this route eliminates two crossings of US HWY 2, reduces the amount of road route, and creates a giant leap toward permanently protecting this vital piece of infrastructure.  Thank you to the Leuzzo Family for giving us a chance!  As we look forward to our 50th Anniversary  Celebration & Fundraiser January 14th, 2023; we hope you can join us.  Our new membership cycle has changed to Jan 1 - Dec 31 Annually, those paid this fall will count forward into 2023.  Watch for membership confirmations to be sent out soon in our newsletter.  And please remember to do what snowmobilers do best - respect landowners and support the area businesses who support us.  Jerry and Steve will start live updates soon and once work begins on the MDNR approved route we will show you what's in store.  This route is 4 miles long dramatically reducing the travel time from Wakefield Trails to Iron County, WI trails.
