Feeding the short shareholder value dug this hole.  It's all about the money.

It's a sucky deal, but it is how things are done way too often.  Number crunchers can eat up and destroy a brand pretty quickly while they feed the stockholders.

At the end of the day, it's a business like any other.  From an investors standpoint the smart $ has been in PII since 2010.  I'll take a good investment over a shitty product eight days a week.

co-worker just picked up his new $70K+ bass boat and had it out for the first weekend - he caught about 40 fish in four days

I caught 20+ bass out of the old aluminum v-hull we keep at the cottage with a new $1200 Merc 6hp on it in three days

    me+math for the win

his boat is really nice though, makes the bass boat I keep here in town look like a kids toy

There's tons of choices in the new snowmobile market.  He ain't buying any of them either.

Is it ok with you for people to complain about their favorite sports teams or their favorite car companies?  I'm not buying either of those either atm.

Are you still ok with me taking jabs at Polaris and Ski-Doo but not Cat?  That seems rather.... odd.

Just hoping to clarify who/what's fair game and what isn't, on the internet.  :roflcrying:

Fact:  Textron has done and is doing precisely what many predicted they would do to Arctic Cat.

in a nutshell, I can't ever recall a time where the Cat faithful have ever been so negative about their brand - it's not just a few of us here, it's on HCS, FB and even ArcticInsider - the most positive pro-Cat platform ever.  when John Sandberg walked away, that should have been the biggest tell of them all.

They should have offered the sno pro with the consumer 600efi in it. They would have sold a lot of them. And we all know it would have fit very easily.

and more so, the 800 Zuke

imo, Greg knows a lot and nailed it, and total complacency from inept management who not only let the competition eat their lunch in the retail landscape, they got beat up and had their milk money taken.  then Hosanna arrived in a Textron leisure suit, and has been milking the teets until the udder runs dry.  that's how the game gets played, they have no interest or loyalty to the consumer or the brand, to them it's like buying a truckload of grapefruit for $250 and selling as many as possible for $5 each until they run out, then they sell the truck and trailer and it's game over and they walk away and you've got a $5 grapefruit.

let's look at the past few months... Cat's 60th anniversary = nothing burger and a Garmin GPS while Poo & Doo launch new shit once again.  Brian Dick, a racer, engineer and someone who understands the industry, it's products, consumers, place in the market is walked out the door. Then they hire a person from Atlanta who has ZERO experience in the snowmobile industry to steer the ship and make it more lean, mean and green.

for those who can't see the writing on the wall. get some fucking glasses that aren't all green.

I'm surprised that Country Cat has been exclusive to Cat as long as they have. If you've been watching their inventory the last 3 years, they've had almost nothing to sell. I'd like to know how many new Cats that Country Cat sold at their peak..... Not to mention how much clothing they used to sell.

It will be fun to watch their Kawasaki sales and see how long it takes before their Kawasaki sales exceed their Cat sales.....

Country Cat makes more $ on their parts and soft goods than most by a country mile... pun intended.  They stock parts, their prices are always right there (I understand margins as good as anyone) and their customer service is top notch, regardless of Cat.  Have ordered must-have parts on a Friday and had them in time on a Saturday morning without fail.  Any manufacturer with half a brain should be lucky to have a dealer as good as them serving the online parts ordering public.

Last time I tried ordering a part priority from one of the local dealers and told them I was willing to pay a premium for a widget I was told a week and a ludicrous shipping price.  CC had it in stock and it was $6 for Spee-Dee delivery which gets to me in one day.  Hard to beat that.

Its bad news for the cat faithful to lose Brian , he grew with the brand similar to Roger and his shortcomings people see or claim are restricted by the bean counters.

Mike is still there being the one man band running the race program.

When Jim Dimmerman is calling it that cat will be closing the snow side sooner than later you know they've hit a new low.

From my pov getting rid of Brian seems to be the final nail in the coffin of any new innovation on the snow side coming from Cat.

I also have an awful gut feeling they're going to kill the race program next (again).

How much did they spend on the display at ERX again?

    Nope.

Do you think the nice lady from Atlanta will be doing lot's of product testing, interacting with racers/consumers and getting her hands dirty?  Her dog is a pretty light color...

when you are that high up in engineering that is standard operating procedure.

yup, they definitely don't want a guy like that walking out the door with any top secret plans for a Garmin GPS, plans for a new single cylinder kids sled or the magic formula to primer gray paint.

You'd think with all the cat haters here that people would be happy with the old guard leaving?  But you can't logic with haters, haters are going to hate.

If Brian Dick was the shit you wouldn't have been bagging on his product for all these years.

    "But Textron Boogeyman"

Brian is a racer and enthusiast - clearly there's no room for guys like him, Roger Skime, The Hibberts, Craig Kennedy, Donn Eide, Greg Spaulding, Russ Ebert or etc., etc., etc. under this new Textron tent.

More bad news - Brian Dick has been let go from AC....

    Let go, or quit?

    Wow, last of the Mohicans

    Kloety hanging in there?

    Good grief.

I saw Brian was let go. However I noticed they are now full blown into “Textroning” cat. After reading the sno gore article their new chief won’t be there long. Her back ground is aero space. She has been bounced all through cat upper positions. As soon as the position is open in aero space they want her for, she will go there. While at cat she won’t do shit. I have seen them do this many times at Jacobsen. The person would flat out tell us they are there until they get moved to the areospace side and won’t do much.

But so many people claimed Textron was the Savior of Arctic Cat.  Like Jesus...

Taiga is ahead of the curve, and I expect Poo & Doo to follow.  It's sort of exciting to see this transformation... sort of

Even at our home/cottage we're transitioning to more electric stuff, chainsaws, weed eaters, Milwaukee (you name it) but haven't succumbed to our vehicles, outboards or sleds yet.

My buddies and I built a 670 rotax powered golf cart for the annual storm lake honda golf outing , we made it to hole 3 before we were told to put it away. Damn thing was a riot to drive but anything towards top speed got really sketchy...

Now thinking about it I want to build another just to cruise around town on since they legalized that here...

    Tipped rails are a gimmick

idk man, spent some time on tight trails on my friends Assault the winter before last and was shocked at how well you could turn it.  but since I started the gimmick commentary let's stick with that until they beat Cat at an XC race.

Yeah all those cross country racers using short track sleds, if only they knew they were useless in a ditch.  They should be on 140+" crossover sleds!  Plus they could BRIDGE BUMPS

Will be interesting to see how the 136 tipped rail Poo Cross Country does.  It's supposed to ride like a 128 but gives riders that extra bit of rail and track for added traction and bump bridging.  Maybe it works, or maybe it's a great marketing gimmick.  They have been using that setup in the Iron Dog sleds for a while now.

Funny thread, for a guy that’s been working on cars for 25 years now.

I don’t miss carburetors. Even though I know how to work on them.

I don’t miss distributors either. Especially points.

While the newer creature comforts are not necessary I see a LOT more people that prefer them once they have had them, than not.

The new shit really isn’t that much harder to work on, IMO. It’s just different. For instance, I’ll take changing plugs on a new Camaro over say even a 93 Camaro ANY fucking day.

I had a brand new truck every 2-3 years from this time in 2011 until last May. I went back to a 2006 Silverado so that I could concentrate on paying our house off and building my shop at home. I miss a LOT of the features of my 2017 Silverado that I got rid of last May. Even though driving the 2006 isn’t really all that bad. But, I am also slowly adding some of the features from the newer truck to the older one as time/money allow. New vehicle tech doesn’t bother me at all but it’s my job to not let it.

I don't miss a rat's nest of vacuum hoses under the hoods.  I like the seats in my 06 Tahoe much better than everything GM has done since 2007.

They should really bring back I tops... or T tops :lmao:

The thing is most all crossovers do not have an actual transfer case and so many dealers and manufacturers call them SUVs. The term SUV has been whored to death.

    100% on the 'SUV' comment

The OEM domestics did a great job of convincing morons they weren't buying station wagons back in the early nineties - which is really what they are.  Personally, I love station wagons and have been sad to see most of them killed off by American manufacturers as I grew up driving them and still have one.  The CTS-V and Magnum SRT wagons were cool cars in my book.

Drove one of these through high school, dad bought it new and I only destroyed one transmission doing Reverse to 1st drops.  Used to pack eight friends in it, a keg of beer and drive around on the lake in winter with it.  My younger brother finally destroyed it long after I was out on my own, seems a rod went through the side of the block when he accidently hit neutral at WOT while manually banging gears on the column shifter.

For the most part, pre WWII, there was a big button to the right of the gas pedal. You put in the key, turn it to 'run' (no start option) and press the button with your toe. You could give it little gas with your heel, usually had to do that. There was no solenoid in those days, that switch in the floor carried the full current from the battery to the starter.

If you didn't have the key, or it was off, the starter would still kick over if you pressed the button.

There was probably a manual choke too. Pull knob out some, all the way if it's cold out. Push it in a little at a time as you drove the first few miles.

Part of the reason there were no cup holders is that your hands were pretty busy just driving in those days.

Hard to play with your phone while driving the older iron with a hands on driving experience.

Vehicles are too easy to drive today which I feel has led to far too much distracted driving.

Maybe they should teach student drivers in cars with three on the tree
