Don't you think it would be better to address the issue now before it gets much worse and your Government shoves something you don't want down your throats like in the link Tomas just posted.

Honestly I struggle with what their options are.

The extremely large majority of anti gun people don't even know most of the laws that are currently already on the books let alone understand them. That is all the way from the low information public to the lawmakers, to the political representatives and ending at the POTUS. They are clueless when it comes to guns. How they function, the capabilities and how they are currently regulated.

So how does one fight an information war where the highest elected seats in the land are lying against you?

Banning firearms of any kind really doesn't solve the root problem which is violence of any kind. Violence is violence, no matter the tool used. Non partisan studies have proven this.

Sure you could do licensing (which I agree with) and background checks (which already happens at pretty much anyplace one can legally purchase a firearm aside from off the books private sales), safe storage laws, ect, but these only effect the law abiding public. These while good measures, they don't target the right people. We need to go after criminals.

We need bail reform and sentences that actually stick and are made to last. Not out on release to commit again in a day or a week. We need to actually punish with a high level of consistency.

We need to seperate gang, inner city ect. crime stats from actual regular crime stats so get can get a better picture of where resources need to be spent.

Spending billions of dollars going after AR-15'S or any other firearm that is arbitrarily deemed an "assault weapon" by people who don't understand them or don't personally care for them and want to force their opinion on others won't solve the problem either. All that does is entrench both sides into their beliefs.

Real, effective change can only being to have meaning and take shape when there is true and honest facts and discussion. But that will never happen while guns are used as a vote buying tool for the uninformed and scared voter.

  2. I hit a deer on my way to work 3 years ago.

5 of them came out of the trees and started running parallel with me in the ditch. I got on the brakes real quick and that's when a year old made a 90° right infront of me and tried to jump the road. The front tire of my KLR caught it right infront of its hind leg and sent it spinning into the ditch. Thankfully I managed to slow down enough that I didn't crash and stayed on the bike.

Ok here are a few picks from my last Madagascar trip. Didn't want to post any until I was sure my bro in law was going to survive his bad crash.

    Getting started.

There is a husband and wife that are in their late 50's I believe up here in the Edmonton Alberta area that bought two of those brand new back in the day. One silver one red. They have been daily driving them since. All year round. Rain, shine , snow doesn't matter.

Edit: I guess he bought one in 2013. Not brand new. But between him and his wife they have 4 and they daily drive them

funny you should say that, as yesterday I had to explain a Ram TRX to my wife in the parking lot at Fleet Farm where we had just purchased dog treats, some household goods and wandered through the firearms dept.  I'd like to get her a stagecoach shotgun for home protection but as she wasn't raised around f/a's and is generally uncomfortable with them that's a no-go.  she does like shooting my childhood Remington 22 Speedmaster though, on occasion.  our 16yo daughter is uncomfortable with anything more than her pink Crossman and I know better than to attempt to push beyond that.

have you seen the Hellcat Demon 170 yet?

oh fuck, now I'm going OT... :roflcrying:

Maybe I misunderstood. I thought you meant f/a ment full auto firearms and not just firearms in general. I have a small collection of firearms but nothing full auto lol

How much do they generally cost?  I'd rather find an old Ford Ranger or other small truck but they bring stupid prices for what they are really worth.

Up here in Canada you can import vehicles 15 years or older and those kei trucks are popular. They go for around $6000-$10000 Canadian. That is bought in Japan, deregistered, put on a boat and shipped to Vancouver, through customs and waiting for you to pick it up.

have fired a wide variety of weapons including a variety AR's, and own several f/A's I won't discuss publicly.  I can see the curb appeal to the 'scary guns' to the uninitiated, but they're not necessary whatsoever for me or my needs.

this said, a perfectly focused 50 is the most impressive thing I've ever squeezed.

I am very envious on the first bold.

As for the second bold, I guess that is the beauty of living in a first world country. We are not a society of needs. We are a society of wants. We don't need a 700hp factory stock truck but we will sell it to any meat stick with enough money and not question the morality of it. We don't need 99% of the shit we buy.

show me a bill from either major political party aimed to do either...

when the Dem's had an opportunity they did nothing (like abortion), and the Rep's are more afraid of losing their base and the gun lobby to do anything, imo.

    me specifically... idk

all three are equally deadly in differing circumstances but one has become the prime choice for mass shooters due to it's abilities, hasn't it?

seems the masses think the 'scary gun' should be banned again though... and their numbers are growing larger every day

But if the masses are uneducated on the subject and being fed false information by shitty politicians try to win votes with emotions. It won't help them solve the problem they are trying to solve.

  9. Are we going to ban pressure cookers because some people used them as bombs and killed a bunch of people? Are we going to ban vehicle renting outfits like U-Haul because someone rented a van and drove into a crowd of people and killed some? Are we going to ban air travel because they have been hijacked and flown into buildings and killed people?

Bans do not work against criminals. They will always find away. In the UK where they banned guns (for the most part with some exceptions) knifings went through the roof. On top of that they still have a large amount of shootings, they just aren't widely publicized. Do we then go like New Zealand and ban knifes there because a guy stole a knife off a store shelf and killed 9 people?

The argument of banning this gun or that gun based on looks and emotions does not solve issues. There are other options, lots of options to create death. Hell, you can build your own direct blowback submachine gun with stuff from the hardware store.

The prime minister of Japan was killed with an improvised gun. How did their basically country wide gun ban prevent that?

Criminals will always criminal. We need to stop focusing on the object used and start putting real dollars into the person using the object.

In Canada 90%ish of guns used in crimes were smuggled illegally into the country.

They made AR-15's prohibited devices among the pile of other semi-automatic firearms that were legal and also hand guns were banned for sale and transfer. They are trying to ban all semi autos. The cost of confiscation and the bans will be over 5 billion dollars.

There are scanning machines like the one the Grand Cayman just got that scans for everything. Guns, drugs, all contraband.

What would be better for public safety. Taking firearms from legal owners (because the criminals won't be turning their in) or instead use the money that would be spent on gun bans and confiscation and use it to buy 10 of those scanning machines for everyone of Canada's 119 ports of entry?

  10. A 30 round magazine used by AR-15's is called a STANAG magazine which stands for Standardization Agreement. These are not large capacity magazines. They are the standard size in NATO countries.

You can ban standard capacity magazines and try to limit them to less rounds like they do in Canada but you will find that moves like that only hurt law abiding people and does little to deter a criminal from hurting or killing people

  11. All semi autos are not wholesale banned in Canada.

AR-15's and a bunch of "similar" rifles were made prohibited in may of 2020 but there are still a few semi autos one can buy. They tried to ban them all as well as a few bolt actions and single shot rifles a few months ago but due to the back lash from the public and they way they went about it, that one didn't go through.

Even though AR-15's are banned you can still buy guns like the Kel tec rdb, tavor's, wk-180's (ar-180c clones), ect.

At the end of the day the AR-15 is a rifle designed for civilian use. 30 round mags are not large capacity, they are standard capacity. Banning Ar-15's won't change anything because there are a lot of functionality identical rifles that aren't being looked at because they don't have the same household name status.

Guns are not the problem, people are. We should be looking at stopping unauthorized use not stopping legal use. Not stripping rights from the many due to the actions of a few.

I really like Acapulco in Mexico and St. Maartin.

    Dominican Republic is good too.

Haven't been to any of those in a few years though.

Key West and San Padre Island are good too if you don't want to fly.

Well I am up in Edmonton Alberta area so flying is pretty much a must lol.

The wife and I are in our early 30's but not fans of night life (ie clubs, ect). Does that change anything?
