Make your own. More fuel efficient vehicles also will lower costs. Get a bicycle, public transportation for those in more urban style enviroment. Buying a pickup that mostly haul air and one or 2 people and to occasionally tow toys for recreation is a personal choice and expenditure. If you have a 15 mpg rig and it hurts to fill at 5 bucks a gallon you can easily get a vehicle that gets 40-45 mpg on the cheap which uses a 1/3 less fuel.

Nice car. Filled my work truck this morning for 4.89 a gallon for diesel…. 15 mpg. Filled my Tesla for free as well today. 😂

I don’t really care how other feel tbh. I believe in self sufficiency and responsibility. If you are paying $5 a gallon and that is upsetting that is the sole responsibility of those upset especially when it’s so easy not to pay $5 a gallon. My electricity is way less the 5 cents a kwh but don’t really care if somebody has to pay more for electricity then I do. Their choice to pay how much ever they want. Every expenditure besides taxes is a personal choice.

Last one prior to this like in 2017 totality came right through my area…. Missed it due to work out of the area but was 80% where I was which was pretty cool in itself. Wife said it was awesome on the totality. Likely going to have to go a vacation to watch one at some point as I want to see one. Congrats to those that got to see it.

Given the current battles, it's a bit ironic that Texas' ability to become America's green-energy leader was the result of two Republican governors and the state's conservative, pro-business bent. The runway was laid more than two decades ago when then Gov. George W. Bush pushed through a plan to deregulate the state's energy market. Instead of letting utilities control all the generation and transmission of power, the law created a competitive market that allows customers to choose their power provider. The goal was to lower the cost of turning on the lights for households and businesses. The plan also included a target for Texas to produce 2,000 megawatts of power from renewable-energy sources by 2009. The plan was so successful that in 2005, Republican Gov. Rick Perry raised the target to 10,000 megawatts by 2025 — a threshold Texas quickly surpassed. An energy market that prioritized the cheapest supply, combined with a quick process to approve and build new transmission lines, proved to be a winning formula in a state with vast swaths of open land, wind, and sunshine. Last year, the state generated about 30% of its power from wind and solar.

With all the new wind, solar, and battery storage coming online in Texas they are meeting record demand without much of a hiccup. They are investing heavily in distributed renewable generation in Texas since that large scale disaster a couple years ago when Coal piles froze solid, natural gas valves and infrastructure froze and shut down. There investments in renewables and distributed generation is paying huge divedends on the reliability in ercots area.
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has not issued an energy emergency alert (EEA) this week as freezing weather blankets the state and the demand for power is driving higher than any other winter on record.
“You had low thermal power plant outages. You had decent to very good wind depending on the time of the event. You're looking at solar and storage. So this is where, you know, it's a system – it's all kind of working together,” said Doug Lewin, founder of Stoic Energy Consulting.

In Texas Coal is dying as the deep red state transitions to a cheap power source. And the amount of new generation coming on this year in that state is crazy.

In March 2024 alone, solar generation reached 3.26 million MWh, according to the Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) hourly grid monitor. The increase pushed solar’s share of ERCOT generation to more than 10% for the month, also a first.
While solar has been climbing steadily (see the graphic below), there has been a notable pickup lately. Generation in March 2024 was 1.17 million MWh more than a year ago, a 56% increase, and the growth will continue. ERCOT data shows that the system currently has 22,710 megawatts (MW) of operational solar capacity but is expected to expand by almost one-third by the end of the year as another 7,168 MW of capacity is added.

The sheer volume of corporate profits and how busy everything from airports, to highways to restaurants, to the amount of Amazon delivery vehicles on the roads, etc etc it looks like the economy is zinging along nicely. Much better then the pandemic economy of a few years ago.

Utilities love EV’s. They make money from selling electricity. There is probably very few Utilities in the US that don’t have individual and business rebates for installing home or business charging equipment as well even California utilities have special EV rates that are typically cheaper then the normal rate.
Other then a few hours a couple days a year, varies by region, the utility grid has excess capacity that Utilities would love to be able to sell more electricity then they are -

Lots of utilities are giving incentives for home vehicle charging installs and many have a cheap EV rate for EV charging.

Fox News said they had 3 minutes from mayday call to collision. Doesn’t appear the crew in charge of the boat dropped anchor until the last minute according to report. Which makes sense as the last little bit the ship made a sharp turn by the videos…. Wonder if that sharp turn was the anchor pulling the nose of the ship around.

Many don’t understand how globally traded commodities and private companies work. We are making do much oil now that we can use it all and are export 1.5 billion barrels a year from the US shores and that number will easily increase. If we make more then we need in the US prices should be way down if presidents of the US have control over oil. Oil is 100% controlled by private and for profit companies.

I will take advantage of every tax law that lets me keep more of my own money. I am not the type that feels your tax dollars are mine but odd you feel obligated to the dollars I pay in. You lower your tax burden by using tax law to your advantage. Can’t help those that won’t help themselves
