Funny how Internet lore becomes reality for some people.

Any time someone on FB asks about zr900's, all the experts who know nothing come on and say to only get an 03 because of the chain case vs diamond drive.  But they're just repeating what they've heard from people repeating what they've heard.  Lore becomes reality.

The later DD 900's weren't bad, but the system used to hold the ds, onto the dd output shaft is an abortion, and I don't think the parts required to upgrade it to a bolt are available anymore.  Back then we used to jokingly say "reverse is for pussies"

Your the one with the problem. Hateful little fuck face!

Strange how upset you get over honesty, and the truth.

Tried to make up an excuse for the poor performance of the test sleds snowest rode, then its revealed that engineering was saying they had a ton of test/calibration time on the mountain sleds.

    Never forget it:

no, we're discussing the miraculous 2008 MXZ XRS 600

but just realized your DooTalk post would have been for 2009 MY sleds

any idea where the numbers are for the 2008 MY sleds?

I threw away all my papers a year or so ago.  I'm sure somone posted them back then, try the wayback machine on HCS

So.... as far as the Catalyst goes, what's everyone's take on SnowTrax SOTY episode, saying that the handling and especially rear skid are not up to par with the other manufacturers? I don't pay much attention to it all but suspected that the all new Catalyst would have been chosen #1, sure they would be desperate to give AC some love.

Instead they gave it a design award.

Did AC miss the boat, or will some tweaking straighten it out?

Does AC have an updated rear skid in the wings?

I have not driven one, nor do any of my buddies have one so have to rely on second hand info.

On a positive note, looks like we have a new Arctic Cat dealer coming to the area, Georgian Bay Trailers have announced they are taking on the line-up, great news  Gives me another option, have no problem riding green if it's up to par.

The front end discussion has been their big thing they’re wrong on for a long time “it turns really good in loose snow but will get some inside ski lift when the trails are rock hard” yea no shit if it bites on a trail with no bite in the snow it’s really gonna grab on one that’s set up hard. They obviously have the cat over the ski doo for handling because no amount of talking can make people believe those things aren’t bulldozers in corners.

We rode between Toms VR1 and a couple catalysts all day one day this winter and the catalysts could all turn in better than the Matryx and hold a line at higher speeds through corners. They both turn well and do well through bumps but the real world nod has to go to the point and shoot cat front end.

The slide action skid is still a slide action, it works ok but not as good as the other two if you’re cruising around slow but in big bumps at higher speeds is where that skid frame shines. They probably do have a new one on the way in the next year or two though.

There is this one from years ago.  Too bad they fired the suspension guy involved in the design of it.

    Here They are...
Fastest to slowest, best of 2 runs

    600 Class
Nytro 13.04 @ 87 mph (not realy fair hp wise)
    Poo 13.09 @84
    Doo 14.01 @ 84
    Cat F6 14.01 @81

    800 Class
    Cat 12.86 @ 93 mph
    Poo 12.90 @ 93
    Doo 13.0 @ 93
    Apex 13.01 @91

    Crossfire R 1000 11.6 @103 mph
    Z1 Turbo 12.5 @ 95

seems a stock 08 MXZ XRS isn't quite as quick/fast STOCK as a well prepped one, on ice.

    :owned:

You mean to say the non HO ac 800 was the fastest sled in its class!!??
But everyone on here says the motor was a turd, and the sled a tank

Mercury Marines aluminum foundery does a lot of work for OEM'S.

Gilardoni makes cylinders for AC snow, not sure who does the casting for the new 600 atv engine, but Mahle made a lot of cylinders in the past.

  7. No doubt there are hacks out there, but the oem's don't have all the answers either.  When you talk about materials, and clearances, most of that is cookie cutter, and takes as much real engineering as jimwit does at his job (none).  The processes and materials are well known.  The oem's don't make their own cranks, or cast any parts in-house, there are a hand full of companies around the world that make that stuff.

The "magic" (hp and reliability) comes from the ports, pipe(s) and tuning

As far as SSI, I can't comment on the reliability, but I know of 2 that got put on the dyno, and both struggled to beat a stock 800 for hp

I'm not saying there aren't sharp guys out there, that's where you guys get so sensitive.  Deep haven said it's a bunch of stock parts to hop something up, that's the definition of bolting stuff together, no?  And even if someone's very sharp, comment still stands about the comparison to an actual engine manufacturer.  It's not that hard to make fix kits.  The fact that some of these kits brag about using "stock parts" proves my point further.  Saying that infers reliability to people for a reason.  If it didn't they wouldn't say it.

You vastly over rate some of the factory engine guys..  Just look at the abortion that was the poo 800.

With what textron has done to the engineering, calibration, and test dept at ac, there are several shops with more experience and knowledge. It's a dam good thing Spaulding agreed to come back as a consultant after being fired.

The good thing about using oem parts is low cost and availability, nothing to do with reliability...

Enhancers as far as bolt on pipes, heads, etc sure.  Maybe even some porting under the right circumstances.  But you'd have to be an idiot to run aftermarket big bore

    Depends...

A friend of mine has been doing this for a while..  We made mid 160s with a 800 top end on my 600, in 2007.

Over the summer of 09, we built a 860ish cc f7 bottom end engine for my 09 sx sled Made mid 180s, with conservative timing and fueling (D&D f9 cylinders with stock f7 stroke) ran it all the way up at 9200 rpm, with a 5500 engagement.

Both engines ran issue free till I switched sleds.

Now that Ecu tuning is possible, there is no reason for a good tuner to have reliability issues.

Hell a good tuner can make a engine more reliable than the factory, since they don't have to worry about epa..

Precision efi tune fixes the detonation that kills 800 ct2 s

  11. the bewsts weren't holding up too well in these parts, and doo had a defective check valve that would fill the engine base with their magic turbo juice.  Sled would fire, fill one cylinder with water, and stop.  leaving you with rusty bearings, a bent rod, and twisted crank

Halfway on the topic of F7s and cooling

Do people not run into each other at road crossings anymore? I feel like back in the day we used to replace ZR tail lights and crack firecat rear coolers from hitting each other almost every time we rode as a big group.

Stuff the flap up into the tunnel with your ski, play kill switch tag, see if you could fill someones helmet with roost at road crossings.

Play chicken by racing towards a fence opening that wasn't wide enough for two sleds

of course it wasn't $100+ for a flap, or a tail light lens either...

This was 2018. Great snow and no. Trails did not change. Any more dead theories? Last year, I never dropped them on that sled. Put them on my 22 and? Three rides?

No theories needed, you're a lying sack of shit.  This is as made up as "yamha isn't going anywhere, I talked to the head"  and "test rider told me the new engine is 870"

    PC or Clyst?   ski stance...

pc riot, which had the trail ski stance. Too long and pushy for me, but worked better in the twisties than poo

Catalyst riot has the narrow ski stance so its pushy and tippy

of course wtf do I know, jimwith says no one can tell the difference in track length
