“The Ministry of Education’s relationship with WE is ending. I am encouraging school boards across the province to halt all contracts and investigate existing contracts,” Education Minister Stephen Lecce told me exclusively.
Lecce isn’t able to order local school boards to cease dealing with WE, but he can encourage them to reconsider their relationship and some boards are already doing that. Toronto District School Board, the biggest school board in the country, is reconsidering its relationship with WE.
“There will be a review and evaluation of the partnership before our current partnership agreement ends in February, 2021 and before any decision to continue with the partnership is made,” TDSB spokesperson Shari Schwartz-Maltz told this paper in an email last week.
WE has been involved with more than 7,000 schools across Canada — 3,200 in Ontario alone — over the past several years, but that is now declining as the international aid and youth empowerment group comes under fire amid a political scandal.

REGINA - Saskatchewan is the latest province to cut ties with WE Charity, as the organization deals with fallout from a controversial contract with the federal government.
The Saskatchewan Party government had planned to partner with the organization on a $260,000 deal to promote mental well-being in schools.
The Opposition NDP raised concerns about that decision, pointing out that Premier Scott Moe and his wife had travelled to Kenya last year as guests of one of the charity’s founders.
Education Minister Gord Wyant says the contract was paused and won’t move ahead.

In an interview with the Edmonton Sun’s Lorne Gunter, LaGrange said her staff was looking to sign a $750,000, three-year deal with WE to provide programming to Alberta students, including WE Day rallies.
LaGrange said she will also ask school boards in the province to review any involvement they have with WE, its co-founders Craig and Marc Kielburger and any of the charity’s affiliates.
WE' has been doing work for years for all Party's - 2 big Conservative government have been spending billions on WE
