The reason the noise complaints are up, every sled I saw this weekend was some kid riding a can equipped long-track sled with a goofy wrap kit wearing a shovel holding backpack.  I stopped in at Wayne's World on the way up to my place.  He has a few 155 track sleds.  Not sure how practical they are around Bancroft but I'm telling you the kids love them and loud pipes....... it seems to be the way the industry is going, off-trail boondocking shit

That's similar to my observations in Bancroft area as well.  Never understand buying a powder sled that is used exclusively on groomed trails?!?!? And yes, immediate wrap package and cans...  Sigh...

  2. Some great points raised here..  As for the DB meter and a set level as stated previously there are way too many variables involved.  Including how to get an accurate level while the motor is under load.  So for now the blanket law of all aftermarket cans are illegal.. And yes, I do agree that there are a few out there quieter than factory.  But then you get back to measuring sound levels.  As for whats worse, going off trail (trespass) or cans..  Here's my experience.  When I first started sled patrols 2001 the biggest concern was trespass/off trail.  I'd say for every 10 off trail complaints we got one noise complaint.  As the years progressed that ratio narrowed until these days they are similar, this year has seen a few more noise complaints than off trail.  We enforce both equally.  But again, for whatever reason this year has been the most vocal against cans.

Straight forward to fix most of it, boycott any and all business's that sell cans and refuse to ride with anyone that has one. Same goes for that one fawker in the group that just can't stay on the trail, tell him to fuck off.

...and...I'll keep ticketing them.  I like my trails open!!

Sean it is my understanding Police would also need a warrant to enter the home, the home owner can simple not answer the door if they choose.  Is that correct

That was the OLD way and the reason behind this change. There were some major incidents where the driver made it home and did the whole "I got drunk at home AFTER I ran over that little girl". Police would need a warrant in most cases to get in.  This law removes that process (for now as it will be challenged).  But as I said, the reality is...nothing will really change on how we do things unless you're that less than 1% that gets involved in this.

Odot 1 could you please clarify how the revised drinking and driving law works in regards to being at home and having a  beverage within the two hours after arriving ,with no intention of leaving is this still touchy ground Iam not understanding this new law completely,I may be a old souse but when Iam in for the day and sleds are in the garage I mix up one or more of my favorite beverages and feet up by the fire just sayin.Joe

Good, valid question.  The basis behind the new law is to prevent the "home free" defence generally used  when the driver is impaired and involved in an incident but makes it home before police can intercept at which point they down a huge amount of booze and claim they hot drunk at AFTER whatever incident they were involved in.  Just like the removal of reasonable suspicion for the roadside test, the public really isn't going to notice any difference in how police operate.  No one will be breaking down your door to demand breath samples.  Nothing is changing in how we operate.

Hey Sean, sorry to hear about the tough last week you guys have had to endure. I see that the young sledder that went thru the ice on Sand Lake was found. How is the other young kid that hit the gate doing ?

I,m starting to see rumors about the OPP using aerial patrol on sled trails this coming winter.

Can you shed some light on this ? If this is true, what is the real purpose ? Hopefully it isn,t to catch speeders. If so, it could be the last straw for a lot of sledders, that are just needing one more area to be hassled, to finally give up the sport for good.

Thanks Frosty, appreciate that!  Last I heard the young man was still fighting for life. He'll never be the same again regardless.

As for the rumour, I've honestly never heard if this!  I can't even imagine what benefit it would bring or how it'd even work.  In order to run air patrols you need a dedicated fleet on the ground to chase down and pull over any violators. Not something we do on sleds. When I say fleet... usually 6 or more cruisers.  Air enforcement is costly, to be an effective and efficient use of this resource you need a target rich environment such as a 400 series hwy.  Searching for missing sledders, def use our aircrafts...

Ya, the internet blew up over this one on the weekend. 🤣

The anti bike crowd can settle down though, there’s only 35 of these units in can/Usa.

Whats unfair is that the only difference between this bike, and my bike, is who assembled it.  ☹️

Yeah, really don't expect to see too many in my travels. Let us know how it goes!

Hey back to the drone thingy.

On this one................at least 5.6 km away from aerodromes (any airport, seaplane base or area where aircraft take off and land

So does that mean any Lake where sea planes land and take off is not allowed or just a designated Aerodrome Lakes?

    Thanks

It has to be an actual designation, signed etc...  Example..  Ottawa river (above and below rapids in Ottawa) are several planes.  But no actual base or designation (charts do show some areas).  Parry Sound.  There is a base and designated areas for the float planes.  You'd be safe in Ottawa but PS would be a different matter.  Saying that however, it is always the responsibility of the drone pilot to ensure his/her drone does not cause interference or safety issues with air traffic.  If you are in a "clear zone" but see aircraft in the area.  That aircraft has the right of way and you must ground your drone.

  9. Sigh...  Just home from a search and back in tomorrow morning.  Sledder water skipping late last night didn't make it.  In an unrelated incident, 17yr old male fighting for life in hospital after ripping down a closed trail and hitting a closed steel gate this morning. Not a great start so far.  Ride safe guys!!  I really fkn hate knocking on doors and explaining why a loved one is not coming home.

Didnt think i needed to elaborate this much but looks like everyone seems to be painting me as anti-club so here it goes..

-I live in Niagara so local club eh...

    - I support and have a cottage in almaguin district and have friends and ride with people in the club and was told nothing planned and they have heard nothing..

-I saw a news clip which looked to me like it was available online and this I think being a snowmobile forum seemed like a place I would seek clarification

-I only get my daughter Sunday to Wednesday compounding the issue of finding a course that is usually held on Yep you guessed it Saturday..

Having said all that my neighbor took his son last year for his license and said the closest was guelph so he drove him up there and pissed the day away waiting for him so if y'all are wondering why I may want to go the route of online after hearing that may be an option there it is in a drawn out nutshell

Wasn't painting you anti club at all.  But it's about the only way to get the course.  None of us knew your circumstances until you posted them...  More info is always better when asking for advice on this forum...

Curious... how many of those 0.5% would it take to get your BAC up to a level where you could be charged? Conceivably I guess it could be done?

A lot!!  It could be done, but the amount of fluid vs alcohol content would keep flushing your system along the way.  We talked about this on a breath testing course.  There are way too many variables to even make a good estimate.

I have a question about the consumption of whats called the non-alcoholic beers (Coors Edge, Budweiser Prohibition, Labatts Blue 0.5, etc) that states "<0.5 Alcohol Content" on the label, and can be purchased in various grocery stores.

Can this be transported/consumed as any other non-alcoholic drink such as pop or Gatorade, etc when ATV'ing or boating?

Soooo...  the short answer.  Yup! Long answer, well also yup.  But just beware that you will potentially have "beer breath" which coukd result in closer inspection by an officer.  But no fear about consuming, transporting etc...  I've had a couple incidents where they claimed "near beer" and actually had the cans filled with real beer.  They laughed, we laughed, i arrested for impaired, their lawyer laughed at his newest income..   good times!!
