It was stopped and I walked over to tell the guys that helmets were required by and if they didn't want to get hassled by the cops they'd best get helmets. They said thanks and were off. They didn't seem upset that I had spoke to them about it. I'm thinking they may have been new to powersports & didn't know. (?)

     

     

    And that is how good things are ruined for everyone else AND draws our attention.    Don't worry, I won't tell the cops about this!!!

This is the promo video produced by DocUPet Canada on behalf of the Kingston Humane Society.  They wanted to get Rupert's story out there....  There is an extended version coming soon with interviews of the treating vet.  We had a lot of fun with it and try to continue raising funds...  We are just reached our $1000 goal for 2019!!!!   I think I should leave it open and hope for more?  Or too greedy?? Thanks for all the support guys!!!!

    So if the speed limit is 80kph than the Atv/UTV limit is 50kph?

    How does someone find out the different restrictions?  I belief  the municipalities implement the restrictions?

    https://chatvc.ca/ The Coe Hill ATV club...  not much info...  I've also attached a copy of the Wollaston Twp ATV by-laws..  Nowhere is 620 shown as restricted.  And yes, 80Km/h =50km/h max ATV.  If the posted limit is 50km/h or less you are limited to 20km/h.  Lights need to be on, no passengers UNLESS it is an ATV or UTV manufactured to carry passengers.  In a UTV all occupants must be wearing the seatbelts.  And of course...always need helmet, insurance, plates and if on a roadway a valid G2 or better drivers licence.  Lemme know if you have any other questions....

    It is the Coe Hill fair this weekend and the trail is closed through the fair grounds.

    I know ATV/UTVs are not allowed on main highways such as HWY 62 but I am not sure if HWY620 as a different status.

    Hey Steve,

    I'm not aware of any restrictions.  But I will double check and get back to you with a more concrete answer.  BTW hwy 62 is rideable from north of the gas station in Madoc (beside Tims) to Bancroft.

Hey guys!!  Again thanks for the jump start to those that donated!!  We just hit $400 today...  slow and steady...  If any of you know any animal lovers looking to donate to a great cause, send them the link!!    Rupert and I were just asked to be a promo video for the event this year..  should be interesting!!!  If it turns out well, I'll post it...if not I may delete my online presence forever!

Every year Rupert and I raise funds to give back to the organization that saved his life and enriched mine.  I know money is tight and I don't want anyone to feel any pressure to donate.  We are accepting positive thoughts and comments as well!!!  As many know, Rupert was hit by a car Christmas eve 2009.  I found him while on duty Christmas morning.  He was in the median of the 401 and had been there so long his body heat melted the ice and snow leaving him in a puddle of water.  Despite several broken bones in his left rear leg and a blown out right rear knee he did not whimper, bark or bite when I picked him up.  I could hear his bones grinding... but he was tough!!  and stubborn...soooo very stubborn.  A plea for his owner went out... he was only about a year old and obviously some ones pet.  Turned out he was owned by a violent drug dealer who used to beat on him (drug dealer burned to death in deal gone bad 6mnths later). The plea brought in enough donations to fix Rupert's injuries and with the donation of an amazing rehab vet, Dr Cherie White he learned to walk again!!  He can now chase down rabbits and squirrels!!!  Please add your own stories to this thread as well!!!  I've attached the donation site...     The story of Rupert

     

      

    “Rupert was struck by a car early Christmas morning 2009 on a bleak stretch of the 401 highway just west of Kingston. The stalwart Lab was found in a ditch where he'd dragged himself after suffering severe injuries to both hind legs, including a shattered femur and badly torn ligaments. OPP officer, Sean McCaffrey was directed to the dog by a passerby.

    "After being flagged down, I followed the small trail of blood to the dog who, having lain there long enough to melt the snow and ice beneath him, was shivering in a pool of frigid water," said McCaffrey. "Rupert did not whine or growl when I approached him. He shivered and wagged his tail and gobbled some food and allowed me to cover him with my coat and hold him to warm him." 

     Rupert was transported to the Kingston Regional Pet Hospital. The next morning, Boxing Day, brought a sad turn to the dog's story. It seemed that Rupert's injuries might be too severe to be successfully operable. The afternoon of the 26th saw an improved prognosis for Rupert, with recovery possible although amputation of one leg likely. Rupert's comfort was a priority throughout the evaluation period and he was kept pain-free and at ease.

    Rupert's case was then brought to the attention of Dr. Parker and the Ottawa orthopedic surgeon agreed to assess Rupert at Alta Vista. Not only did Dr. Parker think he could help the dog, he believed that both legs could be saved. 

    So the young dog made the trip from Kingston to Ottawa late on the 29th and spent the morning of the 30th being assessed. Following the exam, Dr. Parker began surgery to pin and plate the broken femur and repair the torn ligaments in the other leg.

    "I spoke with Dr. Parker, a veterinarian orthopedic surgeon at Alta Vista Animal Hospital in Ottawa. He has fully assessed Rupert and he feels the prognosis for Rupert is quite good," said Janice Saunders, president of the Kingston Humane Society, in a release dated December 30th. "The current plan is to repair Rupert's fractured left hip. Damage to the cruciate ligament in the right hind leg was also detected and Dr. Parker is repairing this injury during [the] surgery as well." 

    The following morning Rupert underwent a final surgery to adjust the plate and pins and then spent the next five days resting and recovering from the successful but arduous surgery.

    When Rupert was first brought to the emergency clinic in Kingston he was a stray with no identifiable owner. The Kingston Humane Society sent out a plea to locate Rupert's owner, unsure of the dog's future and seeking a reunion. The community responded immediately offering concern and financial support for the dog.”

    A friend of mine who I grew up with in S.E. Wisconsin worked at GE building X-Ray equipment, then after a few years moved to Kentucky and now works at a Company there manufacturing Radar units including Radar speed boards, he built 2 of my 3 Detectors that he claimed can out perform some of the better over the counter units, he's going to retire this Summer and move back to Hales Corners Wisconsin, will be nice to see him again, it's been almost 21 years now.

     

     

     

    Vascar, in simplest terms is using a watch, a computer and two fixed objects with a known distance between them.  To get the speed of a moving motor vehicle the officer watches the vehicle, when it passes object 1 she/he starts the stopwatch.  When the vehicle passes object 2 the watch is stopped.  The time is entered into the computer with the known distance and it displays the speed of the vehicle.  Pretty basic but very accurate.  Used in areas where they prohibit RADAR or LiDAR to measure speed. An engineer building custom detectors is pretty awesome!!

    Detector use is illegal here.  That's why we use the Spectre.  Like I said...it seems to kick ass.  Our traffic guys are building quite the collection.  If it's not illegal where you are, I'd just buy a decent one that filters out the new guidance and warning systems used in newer vehicles.  Just didn't want anyone spending huge $$ thinking that their detector was immune only to lose it and be fined.  That would suck!!!!

    1 of my grand daughters  is a cop, her patrol car Ka radar does not pick up my radar detectors..I own 2 hand held Radar guns, one is a police Decatur htrcr-1kd Genesis, this 1 came from a law enforcement supply store that I'm able to buy from..this gun also cannot detect my radar detector..it all depends on what someone is willing to spend for good equipment. BTW, in Wisconsin it's legal to use Radar Detectors.

    It's not the RADAR devices that pick it up.  It's the standalone Spectre RDD.  It's only purpose is to sniff out RADAR detectors and it is pretty impressive at doing it.  Even Valentines have been seized.  Our traffic units have both a RADAR unit AND the Spectre.

     Most good detectors have Shadow Technology it works by masking the oscillation frequency of the detector, which hides it from police VG-2.

    We have a huge locker full of seized RADAR detectors that says otherwise.  You have to spend a lot of $$ to get one that truly hides from the Spectre RDD. Even several Valentines in there.

Don't waste money on jammers..  They don't work..  Well, maybe .1% of the time.  Valentine One still the best.  We have devices to detect detectors..  Not sure about where you are.  Waze can help.  But we go on Waze all the time and add fake traps.  Slows down the traffic without even trying!!

    Just another flawed traffic law - IMO 

     

    Personally I think if you can't drive 135 on a highway comfortably  you should be allowed on it - lack of skill and just plain scared drivers are more of an issue.

    Not taking personally...  I just see the destruction and aftermath of people thinking they were driving safely and in control.  Adds up after a while..  I don't agree with every single law out there but I do feel the stunt law is valid and needed, poorly named however.
