It’s been that for decade and that is myth. The rxc has run a 8 tooth’s for like a decade.

Which part?  There are many threads of guys documenting improved top speed numbers with larger drivers and 2.52 pitch tracks.  Lots of stage tuning back in the Firecat days. Hell I gained major speed with my 04 F7 by going to 10 tooth drivers from the stock 9 tooth, accounting for gearing too. Some guys were even putting their involutes in a lathe to true them up and picking up mph.

I agree the R-XCs have long been 8 tooth, mine included....mine has never seen above 97 mph either....

  2. I'm not sure what is allowed as far as changes in the stock class, but I know the Polaris Cross Country sled runs a 2.52 pitch track vs the Cat's 2.86. There's going to be a definite top speed advantage too the 2.52.

The R-XC also appears to use 8 tooth extrovert drivers...going to larger involutes would def gain mph too.

    Maybe they've already done this.

  3. They're def going to need to figure out how to get more top end out of the Catalyst that's for sure. I wonder if any are considering a torsional conversion to try and gain some (not sure if that's legal clutching or not).

I think I read that Paul was doing quite well until an electrical issue took him out of the stock race.

The RXC transfers hard for sure, you can actually whack it and pull the front end up going over washouts and shit that you never could on a PC. Until now there’s really been no snow here that wasn’t like mashed potatoes so maybe that’s why

That's good to know. That's what I hate most about my 137 procross is lack of any transfer.  I plan to buy an 858 and am going to have a tough time deciding between the 129 and 137.

I listened to that.  I have loved the other snowest pods about the catalyst.. but I thought this one was very lackluster.

If the snowest boys would have rode it I'm sure there would have been good conversation.  But Tupper and McClure really didn't communicate anything very well about the motor.  They got some great questions tee'd up for them and didn't do anything with it, very vague and basic answers, not descriptive at all.  Hopefully the crew does another pod after they ride it.

    Thought the same thing.

The original post was saying he is hitting 8250-8300 with 66 miles on it.. That's to high IMO as it will gain a few RPM with more miles. Hell conditions alone can vary RPM by 300 easy.. If I was to guess Cat is to light in the primary AGAIN.. They have been for years..  Will see as more miles and testing/dyno possibly comes in..

This has generally been my experience also.

If you're really trying to have a fast one I'd play around with it and test and tune.  Only way to know.  Gunner Arlaud says it likes 8200 and they test I'd probably trust that over a machine but then it really comes down to your sled and your conditions, setup, etc.

When on ice you can get away with running past peak HP since there's a lot less friction.  At a certain point, more RPM equals more speed as long as there's still enough power on tap to overcome the various drag sources.

  8. The latest episode of the carbide podcast features Bobby Menne.  He's ridden all the big 3 OEMs...At one point he talks about just how good the Polaris marketing team is. He basically says it was frustrating for him as a racer, Polaris constantly making changes, pushing out new stuff, and marketing the hell out of anything and everything obviously sells sleds. Textron/Cat has a long way to go to even be close.

First Adapt clutch for me.  Have not dug into yet but this weekend they are both coming off for some "other parts" and cleaning

I put an ADAPT on my 250hp 998 turbo last year and am quite pleased with it.  Smooth power delivery and extremely low belt dust compared to my old Team primary it seems. Have around 2k miles on it.

Be sure not to over-torque the cover bolts on the ADAPT if you decide to swap springs.

Looks like catalyst has less caster probably helps for the quicker steering with less effort.

Wonder if 'darting' complaints will be more.  I still can't believe how many people bought r-xc's for their wives and kids.

Assuming the mounting angles of the upper A-arm are the same, the picture shows the Catalyst has more positive caster with the upper ball joint of the Catalyst further from the ski bolt.

Even still, it's hard to say because the lower A-arm angle on a procross may be different also, so the frame of reference is kid of moot.

and had you ordered this model expecting a Rip2... ?

but yeah... most people probably wouldn't know a Rip1 from a Cobra

even being uncoupled... but with this track, I've a feeling it's going to spin a lot.

I'd take it every single time over a cobra.

I've never liked that track, in any lenght I've ridden it..  Always felt greasy, and didn't brake for shit.

I put a Storm 150 with 192 studs on my turbo and I love it. Still spins quite a bit from a dead start but that's expected for a 185 lb rider, 250 hp, and a boat anchor 4 stroke up front.  I do a lot of U.P. riding though, and that 30-80 mph pull is intoxicating.

I have experience with both a studded cobra and a studded ripsaw 2 on my sleds and I liked both...essentially the cobra was a better loose snow track and the rip2 a better groomed trail/cornering track.

the store was out of Schlitz and Old Milwaukee... you need to realize I'm old.

didn't get an opportunity to measure them, @Not greg bhad to high tail it back to the Yoop to log some epic miles and break it in (see FB 😂) even though I suggested he do a UP offload into the driveway, then grab a trackstand out of the trailer and run it down to the boat landing/track Dyno...

but I'm rambling... looks like the same old hex and cheap drivers they've used for ages.  easy enough to swap out for 8/9T 2.52p cogs.  also, no Rip2... wtf?  I see what I like (most everything) and what I'd swap out or upgrade for personal preference... a few expensive bits and pieces.

    Wait, 129s ended up with a 1.25" ripsaw-1 ??

  13. It's kind of a perfect storm for people to back out of their Catalyst snowchecks:

    1) The big bore 858 that everyone has been clamoring for will be available next year.

    2) Terrible start to the winter...makes you wonder if Textron could've delivered all these sleds before December 1st how many fewer people would've backed out.

    3) Changing/uncertain economic landscape with sky-high interest rates.

I had the outer sheeve issue with my 16 800 , when I was talking to some of the now former engineering folks from cat they told me that the bellville washer and overtightening would cause that (I always tightened it by hand not with a torque wrench). When I started torquing them I never had the problem again.

Now that would be the BOSS secondary, correct? I haven't had any issues at all with my BOSS secondary on my 998 turbo but I always torque the bolt to spec with belt off.

The stock secondary on my 15 R-XC is a Team TSS-04, so it just has the shaft spacer, some washers and bolt. The whole clutch comes off the splined shaft.

  15. 3 minutes ago, racinfarmer said:

Did you try a little grease on the splines?

I did not.  Was dry as a bone from the factory and by the time I discovered the wear I elected to remove the float.  I used to grease the old keyed shaft floating secondaries, of course.

  16. 49 minutes ago, racinfarmer said:

08 to 20 floated on the splines for sure, not sure on 21, I guess I really didn't pay attention on my 22 since I raiding my friend's parts stash and just sent it with minimal clutch work.

Here's my experience: My 15 R-XC had a small amount of "float" that also caused it to destroy the splines on both the jackshaft and Team secondary. I ended up replacing both the Team secondary and the jackshaft, and then removing a spacing washer to tighten it up and remove the float. I saw no difference in top speed or belt life.

Just having a conversation with Procross225 via fb messenger and I didnt even realize this.

The Rxc has a 1.9 ratio

All other flat land sleds - regardless of 129/137 is a 2.2 ratio and uses a different driver set than the rxc

0728-281 is the number of the 129/137 driver assembly but it is not found anywhere.

That would make sense if the R-XC is using 8 tooth drivers for more terrain clearance at the track shaft.
