There’s a ton of rounds in that niche already that have been around for a long time too but someone said you have to have a creedmor and all these dorks went all in on it. I like to get them going on the hunting pages about how the 7-08 has been out for 5 years and is ballistically superior with a larger hole in all realistic hunting ranges (I think the creedmor starts to outshine it around 900-1000). They lose their minds
The Creedmoor was the start of high bc for weight bullets in a factory loading. Not a new concept in chamberings, but kinda new for box ammo.
The PRC rounds took it several steps forward, where you are shooting missiles in a saami spec, factory round.
There are still plenty of wildcats, or simply lesser known rounds that do similar things though. 280 ackley is a prime example in the Creedmoor sized round.

I would much rather see a debate between Biden and Kennedy, Jr. ... but that won't happen. A general election debate between two geriatrics who shouldn't even be on the ballot - no thanks. One is a bumbling idiot and the other tries to make himself look good by bullying the bumbling idiot.
I am 100% for bullying idiots.

I 1000% convinced this guy was gonna go off on a creedmor tangent
Creedmoor guys are a special bunch.
The round is really good at what it was designed for, no question. But you'd think jesus himself designed it the way they talk.

Still haven't seen or heard of any evidence that would stand up in a court of law.
In a real court of law, or just a current one?

Yes since the 80s
I went through and read the thread.
At ranges what is your objective punch holes in paper and chip rocks.
Or are you looking for advice on killing at ranges.
the current rifle is being built for steel target shooting. it will be too heavy to lug through the woods.

Anyone use McGowan barrels?

we all hear the shots, some are bitching. i came from a gun family so i basically don't hear it. you can hear the shot then a second later "ding" when it hits the target
both are beautiful sounds

this is a local group, right on the side of the mountain. i think they are shooting a mile. not too far from you tommcat
we have a 1000 yard range locally, maybe 10 minutes from my shop. but a mile is whole new level, at least for me it is

I know that’s the one thing I don’t love about it for that purpose but for box stock performance it’s hard to beat a savage in my opinion. I also think the 110 action offers a lot of perks for something to build off of even though it doesn’t seem to be used a ton on custom guns. I know you’re localish to the savage plant I don’t know if you ordered the receiver straight from them or not but if they offer anything with a 24” barrel in 7 PRC they’ll put everything together for you right in the custom order shop if you decide to go with steel.
currently, all of their 7 prc stuff is 22 inch only. i want 26 so i'm either going to try a proof research carbon, or stay traditional with a mcgowan custom barrel in stainless.
talking to a friend that works there, i think you'll see the elite precision in 7 next year, but i didnt feel like waiting to find out. they currently do 300 prc so it makes sense the 7 is next

IMO from what I’ve seen with people that have them you can go with a steel barrel and spend the difference elsewhere for better results. From people I’ve talked to and research I’ve done (my dad was half ass into long range shooting with his buddy who has an 1800 yard range so I was looking at the 110 Ultralite Savages with the proof barrel) they’re still semi inconsistent with cooling and stuff, which I don’t think matters a ton realistically because you’re not shooting rapidly 1000+ yards. If I was going to do a half ass long range build I’d probably buy a 110 ultralite in 7 prc (I like savage) throw a better trigger in it and put it in a chassis and run it. If I was going all out on a custom gun I’d probably go steel barrel and put the money elsewhere unless you’re willing to spend whatever.
the savage ultralight receiver is exactly what i just ordered. i looked at doing the whole rifle but it's only in a 22 inch barrel and i want longer

Has anyone here had any experience with carbon barrels? Specifically Proof Research?
-
Well, just got back from the gun shop after ordering a new receiver to start the 1 mile build.
I guess you could say things are getting serious.....and expensive

that'd be a good start... along with metal detectors and classroom doors that actually lock. armed teachers, ludicrously idiotic idea.
Armed teachers is most likely a no for me. They can't even be trusted to actually do their own job anymore, nevermind protect kids from a shooter.

Or just build a new motor designed for boost to begin with, like they had before yamaha.

So you agree there is an issue with illegal handguns in the US ??
absolutely. unfortunately, it's such an easy problem to solve and yet the solution is looked at as racist, biased or whatever term they want to use this week.
follow through on all of the existing laws, and the people that do the stealing, selling and shooting of the guns, would not be out in public

my point, or concerns (like the medias) revolve more around the school shootings... as a parent.
our daughter (hs Sr. this year) has been doing active shooter drills since kindergarten... that should bother some people. as a parent, it has and does concern me at times. this is no way for a normal society to live or behave. as I stated early on in the thread... it's time for some bipartisan deep thinkers to get together and at the minimum make schools a safe space.
but that's just me I guess...
i absolutely agree, but unfortunately, the people with the most knowledge about guns, security, etc, are not the ones allowed to have any input, so bipartisan gets thrown out the window.

they (AR's) are seemingly the weapon of choice for some very mentally fucked up people... in many mass casualty instances though.
hence, scary guns... kinda like Pit bulls.
well, like anything, it depends what they want to report, and what people choose to believe. they highly publicize the mass shootings with any "assault style weapon", while ignoring all the others.
chicago has more in one week with handguns than the whole country does in a year with AR's, but that doesnt fit the story line so you'll never hear that stat.

I can barely hit a quarter at 100 yds, this kind of shooting is way over my head. You guys have my respect.
They make hearing safety devices for 300 Win Mag, I wonder what that does to accuracy. If I had such a device, I probably wouldn't notice a difference in the relatively short distances I'm capable of hitting a target.
like everything else, those are illegal here.
but in terms of accuracy, a lot of the top long range competition uses suppressors so i dont think they harm accuracy in any way.
