There's also every possibility that they simply overreacted to an aggressive oncoming rider and put themselves in the ditch.

Funny you should say that. Some time back,  a group that had been stopped blocking the entire trail (either two or three sleds deep)  just over a blind hill (several rollers before and after),  lost their freaking minds when I came close to making contact. Avoiding them meant up n over the bank then back onto the trail bouncing off the opposite bank. Must have looked hairy as hell cause it was a butt pucker'er from my end. Their position, I was riding too fast. Ok so I'm not a saint and no I was not likely doing 50kph but who in their right mind is foolish enough to stop and block the entire trail just over a blind hill. Because they were riding with wives and children it was 100% my fault and nothing to do with their ridiculous actions. It was quickly escalating to something that could have turned ugly so I rode away.

Yes there is no argument the slower I'd been going would have allowed more time to stop but I feel confident that even at 50k avoiding a collision would not have been much less dramatic, no way it was a just squeeze the brake and be able to stop kinda deal.

Trail pass enforcement has always been a zero tolerance offence.  I rarely hear of warnings being issued for that.  But do appreciate the input.  Its been tougher this year with the online issuance of the pass.  Many people still only have the paper copy which usually has been "expired" by several days as they await the real pass in the mail.  Last weekend I had a few riders with the pass in their pocket.  Usually that's an indicator they share it between sleds or friends.  They are forced to apply it to the sled AND leave with a ticket as well.  All members in my unit do similar.

First ride of the season, one in our group did not have permit but did have proof of purchase on his phone. Officer was totally cool, looked it over n had us carry on.  Applaud your forcing them to apply the permit, for sure at least some are sharing permits between sleds or with others. Perhaps their also receiving a ticket will trickle down to others.

A bit of both, in some cases.....some can be so cheap that they make stupid mistakes. Anyways, you were the one referencing money previously, which is what I commented on..

Regardless, multiple lives lost, for whatever reason......if this road is as populated as suggested, I would think a neighbour would have heard an explosion of some sort if that was the case. I know when I am at a cottage in the winter, any noise is usually quite pronounced with most of the leaves fallen and the cool/cold nights.

The other thing to consider, most people when placed in a crisis situation, like a fire in your home, cannot deal very well with it or make the "best" choices, which could result in life lost, one of the reasons it is highly recommended to have a planned escape route should a fire happen, it requires less thought......the dogs for all we know could have been caged at night.

    Great point.

A planned escape route and meeting spot, all of us should have one worked out and periodically discussed.

  4. Not unreasonable to use non functional smoke detectors (if it turns out they even had detectors) as a root cause (thanks for the spelling lesson though).

Commonly, root cause is used to describe the depth in the causal chain where an intervention could reasonably be implemented to improve performance or prevent an undesirable outcome.

  5. After seeing how much time went into the small details,  better understand why he made such a point about actual equipment has less to do with reliability vs the install.  Good thing he does service for a living vs installs, no way doing it to this level you'd be able to get paid enough. I really appreciate the effort he put into it.

Exactly like mine....And if you refer to the manual, it tells you the cfm for each settings.

Nice being able to custume these how you like....I might adjust might again if and when we get the woodstove installed with a return vent right by it.

Return by the woodstove, now your cooking. :)

Installer is a good friend, went with his suggestion. He did however say most of the problems he see's are installation related vs caused by the equipment itself. We only replaced our 30 something yr old furnace n AC because of an issue when changing insurance co's this fall. Sure lower bills will be nice but it'll take a very long time to put even a dent in the cost to upgrade.

On my unit, that is now older, the fan speeds can be changed on the board inside the furnace with dip switches, you can change it for heat or air, plus I think also for when blower is at idle or when heat or air is called for by the t-stat.

Your installers either left the settings "stock" or set them based on other parameters, but could be changed if you wanted to I'm sure.

Just had new furnace n AC installed in the fall, speed selection was as you've described via dip switches on the furnace board.

  8. "I just like cars"

I resemble that remark as well. If my wallet would support, be a pile of rides from different mfgs in my stable. Still fortunate to have what I have so life ain't so bad.

  9. Lastest gen Mustang is one hell of a ride out of the box as the previous gen Boss Mustang. Same can be said for how much GM stepped up it's game with the Camaro. Biggest problem.................they cost too much freakin money. The GT is certainly not in the attainable range for the masses. Your Vettes a hell of a nice ride, considered one when I thought I was getting bored with the Cobra (mine in vid). Instead of changing cars, upped the ante with a larger blower then went nutz on suspension and brakes + a set of R Comps for the track days.  Coolest part, it's a decent lapping day ride but is just as nice for cruising and is very comfortable.......................plus it's long since paid for.   Car is terrific, just needs the driver to get more on track experience. ;)

  10. Yes 99 up Cobra is IRS, the 03/04 are IRS plus factory supercharged. Anyways it's all good, summer toy makes it easier to wait for the next winter go round.
