I got mine last week some time.  This is a make it or break it year for me.  No snow will mean a Harley next summer

Well, enjoy your last year on a sled, and might as well start shopping for that new Harley now :fluffy:

I'm sticking it to the man and riding without a permit........

i bought a new sled and can't afford the overpriced sticker

LOL....between that nice shiny new sled and that lovely new house build, I can see where you are coming from....

  3. Did a quick search and do not see a thread already started for this....

So, one day left to get the early bird....any "sledders" on here that are buying a permit this year?!?!?!

Just bought my permit today, it was "ORD-42714".....Oct 30, 2015 I was "ORD-32526"....

Starting to get the inclination to pull the sled into the garage to go over a few things before the season officially starts.....ordered some new trim for the Triton the other day, the plastic trim that covers all the exterior screws has dried out.

I built a home in 2002 and it was full foundation. I questioned the builder and they told me it was standard procedure.

Interesting, I did an addition, including an attached garage, in 2010 and the garage foundation was as I mention above.

There are a ton new homes going up around me, I will make an effort to look into this detail.

full foundation is normal for entire house

    When did this change?

I have not seen, or paid particular attention to any recent foundations, but any spaces without a "living space" below it i.e. garage, only had 4 to 5 foot foundation walls, and usually the dirt was only excavated where the footings and walls go, the dirt was left in place in the middle of the non living space as it was entirely back filled and a garage floor poured.

I now see why Aaron's is the way it is, due to his elevation and it looks like his home will actually end up sitting above grade a fair amount.

  6. Are you planning to have a basement below your 2 car garage?

Looks like you have 8 or 9 foot foundation walls for the entire perimeter of the garage, which is not the norm, unless things have changed as of late.

I am sure your foundation price is on the high side seeing as you are building a bungalow, most homes now a days are 2 storeys, so the footprint/concrete work is decreased a fair amount.

Looks like framing should start in another week or two....good stuff.

  7. You are truly one of the guys with the worst luck that I have ever come across....if it was not for bad luck, you would no luck at all!!!

If I am not mistake you work for yourself, in the HVAC world, or something along those lines, how are you managing as I assume you have been off work for a bit now?

I am guessing your back issue is not so bad now with this next shitty chapter of your life....did you ever get the back thing sorted out?

This might be of some help to you and your back issues......I recently went through some Dr. searching/probing to find out why my shoulders ache and hurt like they do, tests the doc did came back as normal, not even arthritis, which is what I expected the reason to be. So decided to see a chiropractor next that some family highly recommended, learned a bunch of stuff about the spine & other stuff, he did some x-rays, and other things, that points to the nerves in my spine up near my shoulders that are in the process of being pinched so to speak by my vertebrae's, that are slowly starting to arch in the opposite direction. Same things happens in any other parts of the spine affecting other nerves in other parts of your body. So I am going go through his recommended "adjustments" and see if there is improvements.

I hope too that you are feeling better real soon, that thing heals up fast and you stick to the bun, buns in the future.....although a women like that might kill you too, but with a smile on your face though :)

Big learning curve both in running a retail business and transmission business. but cars are coming in and people are leaving happy. When the lake freezes I will bring my sled to work and we can ride after work  for a bit :)

    Good to hear.

Let's hope we get a better winter around these parts than we have the last few years!

Or you could have brought it to me and one of my very experienced tech's could have done the work... I just bought the Mister Transmission in Newmarket, I will give FS'ers a good discount  :)

How's the new business venture treating you, Aaron?

  10. It's also good for you to cut some wood..... little thing called exercise :)

But it's nice to do it at your leisure, not out of necessity to make sure your house has heat all winter!

  11. Agred, get both....furnace and wood stove.

Wood stove is also great should power go out to keep house warm.....but I imagine you are installing back up power.

No we don't.  I have to put in a well, septic and run off of propane.  Will suck coming from a place that we had natural gas but the trade off to having no real neighbors and peace and quiet will be nice.  Footing forms came off last night and the house is being layed out.  Foundation walls should be up and poured by Friday.

How about wood stove? The layout should make it fairly easy to heat.

What are the internet options for the area?

Thanks.  She's a double edged sword right now.  Want cold and snow for riding the new sled but don't want it for building reasons.

There are two solid months to get the structure up and closed in before Winter usually arrives, if all the trades are lined up, ready to go & no major hick ups, you will be riding from the new place in Feb!

But it would also be nice to see Winter arrive mid Dec....for sledders sake!!!

    Whats wrong with that?

Trails close all the time, for various reasons...and will continue too, it is a reality of life and the sport we choose to partake in, bitching about it will not change that, either accept it and continue to ride where you still can or perhaps it is time to give it up.

The days of trying to cater to everyone are gone, be happy with what is available.

Fewer trails, could mean they get touched more by the clubs, could also mean more riders on these trails beating them up faster, just depend on where mother nature decides to drop her load and where the people will gravitate too.

I'm being the general. Have all my trades lined up and ready to go. I'll be doing some of the finishing stuff as well as helping with electrical, plumbing and doing my septic.

Sounds like exciting BUSY times, than!

Good for you on doing all that and having the time to commit to a project like this, in a relatively short time frame....the next 3.5 months are going to fly by, looking forward to seeing the end product.

  16. I am afraid the writing has been on the walls for some time now, just a matter of time before the trail system shrunk, regardless what the driving force is.....it does suck though .

I imagine there will be bitching too from people stating that if they had known trails x,y,z was being closed, I would have never bought a trail pass....

Which reminds me, I should buy mine soon!

Speaking of which, have you changed/looked at your plugs yet? I am due based on the manual service interval, but it fires right up, runs great and still has all it's power as far as I can tell?

No issues with my 6 sp yet, other than some wonky/funny shifts when it's cold. I usually throw it in neutral when the truck is warming up before I go, especially in the winter, and it seems to help, but sometimes it makes me scratch my head why it shifts like it does occasionally?

If you can on your truck, turn off the MDS while driving in city/stop & go traffic, you will notice an improvement in the shifting.

With the MDS on, the truck is always trying to shift into the OD quicker for better fuel economy, causing a clunkier drive train & also will feel like the truck is lugging. On my truck, if I am driving in traffic or in the city I manually shift mine into 6th gear, which eliminates the MDS from coming on, but mine is a HD and I know it works different than the 1/2 tons.

As for the plugs, you will likely not notice any performance issues, as it will be gradual and you will think all is normal. Plugs do last longer these days, but the problem with worn plugs is the larger gap from a warn plug will put an added strain on the electrical system.....but I think newer vehicles do not see this as much of an issue as the older ones did, I would be more worried about a seized plug vs. a warn plug.

    Anyone notice there's no acorns?

We're doing out usual thanks giving camping and now that you say that, I don't believe I have heard one rattle off the trailer roof yet!

You see them on the ground, but who knows old they are.

On another note, there are tons of mushrooms.

No issues, just maintenance. That tranny works amazingly well.

400Hp, 5500 lb 4x4, no fluid lasts forever

There really are very few reported issues with the 6 or 8 speed transmissions, or the 5.7 for that matter.

I wonder if the 8 speed will ever be robust enough to make it into the HD trucks, the 6 speed shift points is likely the biggest complaint I have with mine.

Yes that's the unit, they work for marine engine oil pump out too, prime it first helps.

I wouldn't re-use the same pump for new clean ATF though, I bought a new one.

I use the Mr T on Woodbine, Ken is a very diligent guy.

I already have an oil extractor to remove used oils, it works really good.

I was using a smaller oil jug to fill cases with tight clearances, just took a bit more effort, but I will pick one of these up next time I am at PA.
