606 Railbed Trail - Good News!
We are pleased to let everyone know we have determined a re-route for the section of the 606 Railbed trail from Tory Hill to Gooderham. The re-routed trail will appear on the paper map and the Interactive Trail Guide. We want to thank the snowmobilers and volunteers who contacted us with ideas and offers to help.

As to the bridge closure on the same trail between Tory Hill and Wilberforce (near Farr Road), we are helping the municipality find a solution and we will let everyone know if they do.

  2. I was looking for some chassis grease the other day @ 2 Crappy Tire stores. Between them they may have had 6 cartridges & none were what I wanted. Even the low temp stock location was empty. Looking @ the inventory online of a 3rd store, same thing, zilch. I checked @ the local NAPA & was able to get some. I asked them about shortage & they more or less looked @ me like I was new. 'Yep we've been dealing w/ it for several months now. We never get the amounts we order for restocking'.

So I guess if you're looking low temp or any grease for this coming winter, get it when you have the chance.

  3. On the lodging front I see that the Nordic Inn in Dorset is now the Firehouse Lodge. If you know of any other lodgings have closed or reopened, please post here. Thanks to you guys that have over the years sent me updates.

  4. If anyone here knows a friend in the Durham Region or Peterborough (I'll even include City of Kawartha Lakes) that dabbles in web design, could you PM me. I'm looking to 'move' the web design and hosting closer to home. Here are a couple of screen grabs that you can pass along:

    606 (Railbed) Trail Update
We are unhappy to report that we will be closing the section of the 606 Railbed trail from Tory Hill to Gooderham. This is the result of a few inconsiderate people using that section of the trail in the off-season who were causing damage, partying and driving/riding recklessly past cabins right close to the trail. Landowners in this area have told us that they have been subjected to harassment and threats and that they are concerned for their safety and that of their belongings and buildings in summer and in winter. As often seems to be the case, a few have caused a problem for the many of us that used this trail without issue in all seasons.

Contrary to popular belief, this trail is not all public land and, up to now, these owners have been willing members of our landowner community. With the recent problems, it is understandable that they have had to revoke access. We thank them for the many years that we were able to use their property for our trail.
As everyone knows, access to trails is not a given and our system depends on private landowners.

Maddening about this is that last winter the club opened a new trail to make access to the gas station in Gooderham easier.

  6. I was there today and the business was open. There was a sign on the pumps say GAS COMING SOON. I'm not sure if the place is under new management or not. I know there was no gas there last winter and quite possible that the business was closed altogether. This is good news for sledders passing thru on TOP E.

hmm I don't remember occupation for a month and would still be there if not for the ACT - How can you compare a riot to an occupation paid for by millionaires :dunno:  Police left bait cars and eventually  the trouble makers in black masks broke up shit.  I remember all of it.

I also remember a swift attack from our Prime Minister at the time - arresting 1000's  of peaceful protesters singing O Canada in a park, matter of fact they kettled thousands at Bathurst and Spidina miles and miles from the city center....

Some were just out for a walk.

1000's of camera's install, random ID checks and searches of all persons in an area.

Curious where your out rage of the right to protest was at the time,  :dunno:  Rigths taken away from innocent people

Fucking hilarious what you consider a defense  total beat down I THINK YOU FORGOT, NOT ME

not sure what that means but no I don't like smashing windows

Question, have you ever seen an occupation in Canada at Parliament Hill?  Sorry I don't like anti Canadians blocking roads

Some people seemed to have forgotten about the G20 riots in Toronto.

Trudeau said Friday, "I think there is an awakening going on right now and I think it's a good thing but it also requires all of us to be having difficult conversations, difficult reflections and model the kind of responsibilities and reflections that we have to have moving forward."

Ever notice how whenever the azzhat is caught screwing up, 'we' or 'us' have to reflect? Reminds me of the old joke about the Lone Ranger and Tonto, "Looks like they've got us surrounded Tonto". 'What do you mean by us paleface?'

  11. Lots of damage on E107 in the Jack's Lake area (I've shared pics on the various Ontario sledding Faceplant pages) & Stoney Lake Sno Riders 706 south of Lasswade is blocked. The District 2 governor has posted this:

    Quote

bottom end of Old Hastings and at least 50 % of Mazinaw trails are affected as well. Way more to deal with than what should be reasonably expected of volunteers

The damage that I've seen is worse than what was caused by the tornado that went thru here (including our own woodlot) in 2006. Talking to the logger that salvaged the timber on our property after cutting on the adjacent Crown Land, he said that this kind of work is quite difficult & easy to wreck your chainsaw, plus dealing with trees that are bound up or in tension.

The Ultramar in Fenelon is $1.91 and the Esso $2.01. It'll all be over $2 in a bit here

Tourism guy for the Kawarthas said last week he didn't think the gas prices would affect visitors this summer. I'm sure he's been huffing gas to think that way. It cost me a hundred bucks today to fill 2 5 gallon cans w/ premium @ the local station. I can just imagine what marinas are charging for regular. I recall a few years ago seeing folks at the station w/ a utility trailer full of jerry cans. I'm guessing it was worth the hassle to fill them up in town to fuel their toys than go to the marinas on Chandos or Jack's.

I can't recall that place even though I have heard of it? Raglin pit was another good spot to go at times but, imo, nothing beat Old Baldy on a Sunday afternoon. :bc:

Used to sight in my rifle before the deer hunt at the Raglan Pits or Tank range as we called it. The last time that we were @ the Third Hole was about 20 years ago. Sadly after we left there was a fatal dirt bike collision where 2 collided. I think that started the end of it. As we were sitting there watching the guys running the mud, two couples in a Benz M class SUV rolled in (Mommy's ride?). I said to my brother the trails must be getting too easy if something like that can drive in. I know 1 day I drove my stock S15 from Burketon to the Pits across the Boundary Rd & there were a couple of badly rutted spots that would've been impassable (for me) if it hadn't been dry.

I know before I sold my house in Oshawa in 2011, I remember sledding thru the area & seeing all the fencing that had gone up.

I know that place well, Revrnd. Wish it was still active for my son to enjoy, but of course, those days are long gone.

Yep, Used Parts Plus is exactly right. He didn't necessarily give that up when he opened Spoiled Sports, but, obviously, Spoiled Sports took priority over that.

I'm not trying to age the man, but I would guess maybe even early 60's now? But, then again, since I am fast approaching that age myself, maybe I'm just assuming he is already there? :)

Quite possibly. I think my brother (he's 58) knew of him in the mid 80s from his days of 4 wheeling (trucks) out @ Baldy/The Third Hole, east of Burketon.

Dave and Linda retired. I don't think it necessarily has anything to do with "going out of business" as in they could no longer cut it if that is what you're alluding too? .

Dave has been around for as long as I can remember (Used Parts Plus I think was his previous business), so he's probably in his late 50s and ready to retire.
