  1. FLASHBACK: 30 years ago, Nancy Pelosi demanded Congress confront Chinese tariffs on American goods

An old video of Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., urging Congress to retaliate against China’s tariffs against the United States is going viral for how much it sounds like President Donald Trump’s current tariff policies.

The video, recorded on the House floor in June 1996, featured the lawmaker urging her colleagues to fight against the "status quo" trade policies that had contributed to America’s trade deficit with China. She specifically called on lawmakers to address the fact that American tariffs on Chinese goods paled in comparison to Chinese tariffs on U.S. goods.

"In terms of tariffs, it’s interesting to note that the average U.S. MFN [Most Favored Nation] tariff on Chinese goods coming into the United States is two percent, whereas the average MFN tariff on U.S. goods going into China is 35 percent."

  2. Good , these city living water wasting cucks think everyone needs to abide by their bullshit rules while us rural folk are recycling our water..

A few of the towns we work in in mass have been installing sewers over the last 2 decades. Waste goes into a treatment plant and then down the river out to the ocean.

Now they are screaming that they are depleting groundwater and the oceans are rising.

Duh, what the fuck did ya think was going to happen. If your answer was anything else you dont belong making decisions that involve public policy.

Minnesota food bank CEO steps down as legislators question her $721K salary

Minnesota’s hunger crisis is growing—and apparently so is the appetite for big executive pay at one of the state’s top food nonprofits.

Allison O’Toole, CEO of Second Harvest Heartland, earned $721,000 in total compensation in 2022—even as the nonprofit has lobbied for taxpayer funding and warned of rising hunger across Minnesota, where 26% of households with children are food insecure, according to its own research.

Now, as O’Toole steps down after six years at the helm, lawmakers are raising questions.

Concerns first raised during legislative hearing

Rep. Pam Altendorf, R-Red Wing, told Alpha News that O’Toole’s salary issue first surfaced during a recent “food day” at the Capitol, when food shelf representatives, including O’Toole, testified before the House Children and Families Committee.

“Rep. Bjorn Olson pulled the 990 [tax form] and shared Allison O’Toole’s salary with our committee members right before she testified,” Altendorf said. “That’s when the questions started.”

idk if I can find a documentary about WM I saw ten or fifteen years ago... but here's an example

    https://www.reuters.com/article/world/wal-mart-puts-the-squeeze-on-suppliers-to-share-its-pain-as-earnings-sag-idUSKCN0SD0CY/

But that is not what what you said . Home depot and lowes do that also. They tell manufacturers how much they are willing to pay per unit. That is why plumbing suppliers like moen and delta have their junk line made in China , just to be sold at box stores. They are not telling them where to build it, just what they are willing to pay for it. A lot like cheap consumers do.

    fixed

agreed, but little to no disdain for the US corporations which ended manufacturing here to have shit made over there to sell Americans here?

check out this great documentary from years back...

Yes I do hold some. That being said the consumer is the ultimate boss. If I manufactur here and my 3 competitors do so overseas and no one buys my product because my price is too high I am eventually going to say fuck it and send my manufacturing overseas too.

    No, never got DUI.

I'm not exactly sure what the deal is,they said I had to go to the New York Magistrate to straighten whatever these charges are out. I've never bothered And they never detailed what they may be. The only thing I can think of in New York that I've been busted for is possession of fireworks decades ago. And another time with Mace which was illegal for me to have at the time in New York City...... And another road raging incident where I was charged with assault by the fellow party. 😂 ... Was fingerprinted for that but charges were later dropped.

To my knowledge I have no felonies, The bomb scare was when I was a minor and assault on an officer I don't think was a felony and were both in NJ not NY..... Can't remember if I was over 18 at the time. ...a lot of good memories from when I was younger. lol... Put my poor parents through hell. My other siblings were model kids, with not a speck of trouble And straight as an arrow. I made up for all of them 😆

Could probably follow up and resolve this issue but I really don't have a need to leave the country very often.

NY state is a mess. Dude who used to work for had his license suspended in Mass for a dwi in ny state. Only problem was he never had a DWI in ny or anywhere else. It was another dude with the same name as his ( common Irish name) but other dude wa 10 yrs older and obviously with a different ss #. Turned into a 6 month ass ache for him as both states pretty much told him to pound sand.

Yup - she’s seen other student grades affected by their opinions, in a political science class no less, to the point she makes sure she answers based on what the prof wants so she gets the best possible grade.

    it's different for everyone...

from the article I just posted...

“I looked at my 401(k) this morning and in the last two days that’s lost $58,000. That’s stressful,” said Victor Fettes, 54, of Georgia, who retired last week as a senior director of risk management and compliance at Verizon. “If that continues, I can’t stay retired.”

    and ...

One in five Americans age 50 and over have no retirement savings, and more than half, 61%, are worried they will not have enough money to support them in retirement, according to a survey published by the AARP last April.

Well the first half , oh the horror She cant stay retired at 54 , that %8k she lost is what 4-5 yrs health ins. And for the second half, they dont care what happens to the market, they are obviously not in it.
