My friend is gone for the winter and won't be back until April. He invited us to visit them for a couple of weeks during the middle of what is usually prime sled season. We suggested we likely wouldn't be going. I invited him to come home and spend a week snowmobiling (he used to about 20 years ago) and he suggested he likely wouldn't be coming back to the snow.

Everyone has their own preferences and I'm not at a point in my life where I'm willing to give up snowmobiling and he's at a point where he doesn't want to give up sun and warm.

IF and only IF (which isn't going to happen - this will be the snowmobile season to end all snowmobile seasons) the winter fizzles I think we'll call him up and get him to meet us at the airport in Orlando and go for a couple of weeks.

I forgot the books you write.

November and April are perfect months to travel away from southern Ontario.  You should go visit him and talk him to death. :bc:

A friend of mine flew to Florida last Friday and called me yesterday. He was sitting on his deck in t-shirt and shorts, looking out at the golfers on the course. The air conditioning was on in the house. I told him about the forecast snow... he's glad he's there and I'm glad I'm not in Florida.

I hope if we get the snow it melts. We need some frost in the ground first. Forecast for our area for Friday is an overnight low of -12 and daytime high of -5..... a few weeks of that before the snow and we can have a great season.

November is a perfect month to travel and not be here IMO.

yes.  up to wood lake I believe.  That trail never opened at all the year before.  Steve came from ghurst with the pisten bully to help pack and fill in low spots.  That's the only time a groomes touched the trail from buck lake (trail 3) to wood lake in 2 years

That area is a long way from Ghurst or Baysville for either club. Has always been a bit of hit/miss for years. Tough for both clubs.

Trail has some good swampy areas on it.  Pete, 007pilon and myself opened it last year in Mid February.  It never got groomed and was shut down maybe 1-2 weeks after we opened it.

Is that a Snowcrest trail back there? :dunno:

Thinking optimistically perhaps that 80% of regular season permits actually is a much larger number than last year with even more people buying permits.

No idea on recent permit sale trends.

I guess the data from the last few years that clearly sure a huge amount of movement on the last day, was not helpful.... Lol.

People must have faith in the long term winter forecast.....good for the clubs and the ofsc to have some early cash!

Hopefully it is a good season, in many parts :bc:

80% plus of regular season permits have always been sold at the early season discounted price even back when it was only Dec 1st.

TWN shows 1cm for Cochrane today.

There was rain/snow mix coming down northwest of Waterloo on Saturday. Winter is a ways off here yet.  We figure it will be 3 weeks yet before we start staking.

I saw snowflakes landing on my kids hockey bag on the way into the arena in Woodstock on Saturday.

Why change perfection? Unlike PooPoo's, who has to keep going back to the drawing board, once Yamaha achieves something great, they stick with it. I'm thankful you had a small part in that, Red. With your sled, that you bought with your own money, that blew up on you, Yamaha learned from that and improved on it.  Thanks for helping out! :bc:

 The only thing Yamaha has learned is that everyone (including Cat) build a better sled than that can. That had to be humbling for the tuning fork crew. Christ - I’m surprised some Yamaha engineers didn’t commit hara-kiri over it.

:lol:Nice try, Textron bought out Cat, not Yamaha. Going forward, it's hard to say what will happen with Yamaha snowmobiles, especially now that the partnership with Cat is in jeopardy, but I don't believe Yamaha is going anywhere just yet. http://www.snowmobile.com/blog/2017/02/what-happens-after-textrons-purchase-of-arctic-cat.html

No shit. Textron bought Cat and they build sleds for Yamaha. Well, unless you want a 10 year old chassis that was bottom of the pack even back then. The good thing Is you can buy a brand new sled just like yours - and it's still the same.

You were lucky..... Most didn't make the weekend without burning down.....

Oh it went “pop” the first weekend at the cottage!  Every time I go past the spot where it blew I think about it.  I was so pissed. I was 16 and bought the damn thing myself. It was my last Yamaha.

Always thought Royal started out as a Yamaha dealer. Think it was Royal City Cycle in Guelph. At that time it was strictly cheap Soucy parts. Great for fixing the old Snow Prince or Ski Whiz.....

Yup. I bought my 1988 Exciter off them.

    They rebuilt it twice.

The catch is it was an Ont registered sled that was traded back in to a Quebec dealer, and now I"m buying it.

Do you have the Ontario ownership or was it registered in Quebec?

License plate question.  I've bought a year-old sled that already has custom #s on it.  When I go to register it to my name, do I have to get a new plate #, and so I'll have to redo the #s?

No. The ownership should have the plate portion attached to it. Numbers can stay.

If I were Morneau I would resign....why does he stay on when his fortune (family fortune) is millions more than what he is being paid as a brain dead Libtard Finance guy...Makes no sense, ...He takes so much heat for his activity, if he just walked away, the issue would die and he wouldn't have to change all of his money scams.  Seems weird, does he lack the attention like Justine lacks....?  Does he just needs to be on TV and in the public eye?  I don't get it

And his wife is a McCain. Why he bothers I have no idea. He’s not a good politician.

Guys who want to ride will, those who don't make excuses.

My kids and their activities aren’t excuses. They are simply more important. Plus I’ll just buy day passes if the schedule permits.

Paid $220k, neighborhood became the hot spot in Madison. Probably one of the nicer homes in the neighborhood. It’s peaked here. Everything has leveled off and cooled down. Neighbor with the same house but without the updates and second bath just sold for $310k last month. Truly values could never get in the $350k + range with the garbage intermingled. All 1940s houses with barely a yard, etc. Making a quick $90k is a no brainer. I don’t like the neighborhood. It’s all hipsters (lol I’m waiting for bussmans response) and tech yuppies. Getting out now and waiting for prices to dump is a win.

How much do they have to drop though. Your place is worth $310k call it. After fees you’ll pocket at most $290k :dunno:

You will have costs to get back into the market.

You have costs to rent to live somewhere else.

Do you guys have to pay cap gains tax on your house?  We don’t

Assuming you didn’t pay cash what’s left after paying off the mortgage? $75k?

If you’ve timed the market wrong it could continue to rise and even if it declines it might mean you are still offside on your numbers.

The smarter thing to do if you’re hell bent on “taking your profit” is to move to an area you like that you think will become more favourable over time. IMO better than exiting the market.

They are cliches but the important thing is time IN the market not timing the market. True wealth is created by ownership of assets not trading them. JMO.

    I agree.

Hey @xtralettucetomatoe580 your plan rarely works out that well and leave you paying rent AND TAXES included in the rent for much longer than you planned.  Your area may be different but I don't see housing prices "crashing" enough to justify whatever money you think you may make while you are waiting for the bubble to burst...for a year/two/three/four.......

But, you're a smart guy so, just some friendly advice from somebody who tried that shit when I was your age.  Oooops.

    :bc:

I’d like to see his #s. purchase price, date and current price etc.
