As of writing, Team 7 is barreling toward Nome on the edge of the Norton Sound at about 70 mph, and will become the first team to the halfway point in the 2020 Iron Dog and just 61 minutes separates the 2nd-8th teams. It couldn't get much closer than that considering Nome is 1286 miles from the starting line.

These riders must be in great shape
Some likely are, but knowing several of these guys personally, it really mostly boils down to them just being 'that good' at riding a sled as efficiently as humanly possible. A buddy of mine in particular who ran this race three different times looks like one of the guys you'd pick last in gym class...but will absolutely smoke you on a sled in pretty much any terrain. A lot of this is an innate ability

He knows everything...truly! HAHA!
Schachle left UNK at 6pm last night and rode nearly nonstop toward Fairbanks (nearly 700 miles) and arrived at about 5am. Incredible....- 1

I got a feeling there was some inter-team beef going on with Team 20. Not sure if my gut feeling is right but I'm guessing these guys didn't jive well together.

I will try to look for it. It was late last night. There have literally been thousands of posts on the Iron Dog Group facebook page. Shit posted 30 minutes ago is virtually gone.
What a nightmare....lol

Thanks Tom. I saw Ray's sled. Tag me on Bobby's if you can...
-
I see we are up to 4 teams scratched. 16 is clearly due to injury. 31 due to Menne's sled damage? The other two teams (35 and 17)?

Late to the game this evening...any other juicy news for the update, Tom?

Hahahaha. Thats awesome Kyle. Some people are gonna read that and wonder HTF does he know the rear brackets were ripped off the chassis. Lol.
By the way. Team 14 was the 3rd team there helping to separate the two mangled sleds.
I’ve got people! Hahahaha

It's pretty safe to say that if Tom isn't watching the live-feed recording, there is little to no info on what needed to be repaired/replaced/maintained and how much time it took. We need Tom!!!! HAHA!!!
