  1. It runs great, has good top end, competitive in a drag race. Your expectation of range is simply unrealistic, and you fail to factor in riding style/conditions as possible variables.

If an 800 ETEC ran out at 130 miles there is either something wrong with that sled, or it wasn't filled with gasoline.

Lucky in all your scenarios, Polarii saved the day..... :)  Not sure what your definition of negligible is, but in my opinion, having a sled that gets 20% better fuel range is significant.  What would be the point in developing all that technology, otherwise?

And a secondary set of injectors is not what ETEC is.

Oh it was full no question there. That XRS gets the iron dog treatment on every fill up.

No single brand always gets to save the day.

    20%

.... So what's the primary form of injection ?

It is of course DI primarily but SDI and DI at others? I'm not sure what to call that?? It really does not matter if it works well which there seems to be no complaints.

I am always at my Doo faithful friends to order one up so I can try it!

    I'll talk s l o w e r...

The 13 Indy had a tunnel, it was OK to ride.

The new 800 Polio sore ass has a ridiculous Monkey Bar set (aka Polio crutches) out back that nullifies carrying or towing anything significant. The Beaver Tail is 14 year old technology that claims to be the only way to achieve linear rising rate rear suspension on a snowmobile.... uh... R motion. It sounds like it's an awesome trail sled and fn fast but it's useless to me without a tunnel.

14 year old tech? Show me a sled from 14 years ago that had the design that is being used on the Rush today. Bolting the snow flap to the rear axle ala 03' Rev is not the same in any way.

I'll agree they suck for carrying anything/towing. When used as it was designed  (trail sled) it is one of the best in the biz.

  5. It is negligible especially as per your description.

I did not say SDI is as good as DI. I said They both run well and comparably.

I don't care to try to surpass 130, whats the point? I ride in Ontario there is lots of fuel avail. The last time a fuel runout happened in our group was last year, a 15' XRS 8 ETEC right around that 130 mile mark. The two 16' Polaris 800's both made it to fuel and I brought a can back for the Doo. The time before that it was in 2010 an 08' XP 800 X and My 02' XC700 both ran out about 2 miles apart on the way to Abitibi Canyon, that time was prob under 120 miles as we had filled them at the ESSO across from Thriftlodge in Cochrane. Good thing there was an IQ 600 that made it to the top to bring some fuel back for us.

I'm sure you could make 170 mile happen under the right circumstances but that would not be the norm.

They did go back to SDI as the 850 has a secondary set of injectors..

I rode with a fella who was on his second 850 motor and he chewed a belt trying to keep up with me on the trails. Definitely a nice peice of equipment though. Not a single thing wrong with my 800 in 3000 miles but yeah keep plugging away with your 1200 km season tinker nothing should break with those hard miles.

Well said. Some of us on this site actually ride our snomobiles.

  7. I do ride with ETEC's regularly (and pilot them too) the fuel/oil milage diff between current SD and Pol 800's is negligible. They both run excellent/strong/reliably and can make 130 + miles on a tank. That's all I care about, I'm not in this game to save $2.25 on fuel..

Sorry, but your 1200 is anemic. Completely irrelevant.

I haven't talked shit about another brand and I admit I don't have much faith in BRP 2 Strokes, That being said, I repeatedly got 5500 miles out of 4 consecutive Ptek 800's with richer needles and pilots before a rebuild, That's pretty fn good IMO and they were not easy miles. I know several guys with 800 eTecs with 8000 trouble free miles. The shit talk has been all over the new 850 and my demo has no set up at all, I don't even know what peak RPM should be. It's on the original uncleaned belt and no adjustments to the skidframe or clutching at all since delivery, this is exactly how it came ~1200 km ago. The Poo 800 seems to run great #'s with less claimed HP, clutching and track angles are key. I owned a 2013 Indy, it was OK to ride but that abortion outback completely nullifies any possibility of owning one with a water access cottage I live at at least 3 nights a week and destination rides. The dealer that this demo came from sold 60 850's and none have blown up and they come with 4 years warranty to back up their reliability claims. The Cat 4 year warranty makes their 800 interesting if it's as reliable as the 600, that's been a good motor. But that's where the reliability with Cat ends, sorry. Yamaha... well I ride alone and on lakes constantly and can't afford a winch. To each their own, they all have their plusses for their owners to boast about but the BRP shit is the most reliable and has the best resale. Why anyone would expect the 850 2 stroke twin to keep up to a questionably rated 180 HP turbo 4 stroke on the lake is beyond me... hey neither one can catch a 98 T-Cat either LoL.

    Cheers

Good post . Would agree the 850 issues are mostly Internet issues just like the Sidewinder turbo falling off..

What was the issue with your 13 Indy? I can't see any abortion on the back of my 15??

  9. Wait, what? You have a triple or a new XCR? Or way back when they were piston port twins? So many different kinds of XCRz Im confused..

Did they help you get er dialed in?

  10. 35 minutes ago, Poncho said:

So the XCR is yours....nice...my brother had the 99 XCR 800, worked well, the 2000 chassis was a nice change.....and worked very well

Mine is not the one Tommy is speaking of. Good to hear they are still out there and competitive.

Tommy what year is your XCR, I've always liked those old triples, expecially the 2000 - 2003's models. They were lake rockets

I have a very nice 2000 that has not seen snow since 2008. Maybe when it becomes a classic ill get it out.

I will never sell it unless Polaris comes out with a better 2 stroke triple..

Well the season is all wrapped up for me. 11xxmiles this week in 4.5 days riding. 2100 on the season.

Pretty sure I'll order a new one as 4200 miles 2 years old with 2 years warranty left is a good time to let it go. (As far as cost per year goes)

Sled has been alot more reliable then past 600s. Has had thumb warmer, and 1 snow flap rivet replaced. Put 2100 miles on both belts.

Nice miles and damn cold up there the whole time too.

Did you run toward Hearst? I'm making Hearst for Lunch from Cochrane then back for my first day on Friday. I've actually not been West of Kap before on A so I hope it's not tight N twisty (or rail grade boring) between there and Hearst.

Well I have had many trucks , fords , one GM ( which I had to drag kicking and screaming to 600000 km .

all my trucks go till 600000, Fords were good , but had issues , exhaust manifolds , all had cam phaser issues by the end . Box rot , no one likes box rot , but it was bad , the box sides would look good , but were rotted down the sides of the bed under the liner . You could grab the box sides and move them up and down .

So far my ram 1500 has been great , no issues , other than regular, brakes . Had one muffler clamp let go . And 455,000 km already

How many years does it take you to get 600k on? What year was the GM?
