Sounds like a plan, Bigfish. :bc:

How are things out your way? Lose power or anything like that?

No loss of power, but it did take 4 hours to clear the driveway.

At the rate of a beer an hour, I think I'm owed a couple!!

Had an appointment to get my wife new tires for her car and remove the snows, in Peterboro this morning!

    That didn't happen:crazy:

  2. I have a couple of them. They were being saved for the grandkids, but they have no place to store them (city kids)

They are Yamaha Moto4's. One is an 80cc and the other is a 100 cc. Both are shaft drive with electric start

I will check again to see if they want them, but they have been sitting here for 2 years now, and i'd like them gone.

In the pic they are the yellow and blue ones

  3. We did have a number of people leave the feds for the province, but that was mostly for the location, not the pay.

I was constantly getting headhunters calling with offers of more $$$ for the same technical services in the private sector.

Perhaps it was different for management positions. As a rule I generally declined promotions to management. Tried it once, but couldn't handle the BS, so I left to get back into the handson technical side.

With the shit winters we have been having for the last 5 years around here, the OFSC would be better off giving the trail passes away free, just to keep borderline sledders from packing it in for good. Between sledders aging to the point that they don,t want to maintain trails any longer, and the crap winters, and the crazy price of sleds, it is a dying sport.

Raising costs will not keep people in this crazy, expensive, sport. At some point, it actually may end up being the straw that broke the sledders back, and once they are gone, will never return. The decine of the sledding population has started, and it will get way worse in the next 5-10 years. I,ll actually be very surprised if it isn,t totally wiped out in 10 years.

Some good points re borderline and aging sledders. However it would not be feasible to give passes for free, how could you maintain trails?

The old cliche that the permit is the cheapest thing about sledding, still hold true!

Actually people are still going there.... business has never been better. All last summer he regularly had people waiting for a table. His customer head count is way up after the fire from what it was before the fire.

Sometimes people expect things to not change and as soon as they do they are displeased since it's just not the same. You just can't recreate the same atmosphere that was there in a building that was over 100 years old. Also when you have to rebuild there are lots of building code requirements that you now have to meet that weren't there before.

There's a local cottage country restaurant near us that I used to love. Similar the previous owner didn't have a mortgage... owned outright for years. The new owners took over and had debt to cover so prices went up. The "atmosphere" just wasn't the same. Food was good but it just wasn't what it was for me. I don't go there much anymore. But when you drive by there are more cars in the lot than ever before.

Spin it how you like (why so defensive?)

I'm just stating the local feeling on the place since the rebuild.

No offense to you or your friend intended.

If people are no longer going there, how is that working for him? Yeah, the fire, etc, likely sucked big time for him, I can understand that, but if you want to survive and make a profit, cheapening out on things isn't going to do it.

Oh he still gets the summer traffic (American fishermen) but the locals are avoiding the place.

Good to know! Thanks John. :bc: I'm glad I found this out, as, when I eventually get out there,  Rhino's would have been the place I went into.

we were supposed to stopping by there today on our ride, but the other two guys have wimped out (too chilly or something like that)

I'll head out later and possibly make it over to the clubhouse for wing night!

You sound like a friend of mine. He owns Rhinos in Bewdley. Not sure how many he has had over the years but he is doing well in a very tough industry. He has managed to keep consistently growing each business, sell it, buy another grow it and sell it until he is where he is today. Long hours often 7 days a week.

News Flash... he is doing well but he IS FAR FROM WEALTHY like Fail believes all small business owners are.

Sorry 02, I know he is a friend of yours, but since he bought Rhinos the place has gone downhill fast.

The old atmosphere is gone since the fire and the new reno is sterile and bland. All the good wait staff have left, and the prices have gone way up and the quality has plummeted.

Much like the fish & Chip place he used to own in Cobourg.

I used to frequent Rhinos every couple of weeks year round, but have not been there now for over a year.

  10. Just to add some info to this ongoing insanity.

Ron Joyce Jr (married to Tim Horton's daughter) Inc owns two Tim Hortons franchises, both located in Cobourg

Tim Horton's is owned by the American firm Wendy's, which in turn is owned by the Brazillion investment firm 3G Investments

  11. Rode one last year in Revelstoke.

It was a blast, however that was in DEEP powder, like it was designed for.

Don't see them catching on out here in flatland country, and especially don't think they are suited for trail riding on private property, way to tempting to go off trail.

You weren't one of these guys were you, Big Fish?

Joking of course. Happy New year. :bc:

LOL no comment! But I could relate!

Happy New Year to you too, Dale

  13. My father worked with Dave Keon's mother at Eaton's in Toronto.

We were invited to their home in '67 for a Stanley Cup party, and the whole Leaf team was there. Bower was my favourite player and I had the opportunity meet and have a lengthy conversion with him at the time. He gave me an autographed photo, and arranged to have the whole team sign a hockey stick for me. Even though I was eighteen at the time, I felt like a little kid.

I had that stick and photo on my wall for years, until some bast*rd stole it during a party.

That would sure be worth some coin now!~
