The Canadian economy is off to a terrible start to 2020 as four years of inept government policy are starting to come home to roost.

Manufacturing sales have posted their fourth consecutive negative reading, retail sales were stagnant to end 2019 and signs are that GDP growth is stalling and may actually be negative when accounted for on a per-capita basis.

We worry that our booming housing market may not be enough to prevent this situation from worsening, with the potential for a recession that could drag interest rates and the loonie lower as well.

And concerns about the coronavirus and its global economic impact couldn’t come at a worse time.

The problem is that the PMO has for the most part appeared more concerned with other issues, such as securing a UN Security Council seat, than it has on ensuring the economy stays on track.

  4. I was about 20 kms south of Whitney on saturday, came across a guy a gen4 sled who didn't make a turn and went straight into a tree, he was laying on the ground and his friends were starting a fire while waiting for assistance, machine was destroyed, engine was touching the tree. Looked very very bad. Be safe people, almost got side swiped a few times while doing the rap over the weekend

  5. Tailwinds was talked about a few times.. they have an official trail off B trail east of Orillia now. Would be a good distance lunch stop for me if we ever get some Winter.

well the usual attack on PUBLIC SCHOOLING is why he lost badly, faith schooling was a huge mistake.  We just went through Harris years I didn't see any CON winning at that time.  Just like no Liberal was going to win last election.

I am saying he does a great job representing the people of Toronto, this is what a Mayor does.  Running around drunk and high on crack causing chaos isn't what I call great leadership.

Although most here consider this as BEST EVER all leaders should be drunk at work

Sorry Rob wasn't the best, he was the most entertaining though.  Cutting free passes to the ZOO was huge

Remember when THE STAR lied about Rob doing crack with gang members - those were good times for Toronto unlike the chaos today

I don't even mean the general election in 2007, after that he asked someone to step down so he could have a byelection to have a seat. a riding that had a PC in it since 1994 (till 2009 when Tory lost)

In 2007, as a general election candidate, Johnson only took 29.4 per cent of the vote against his Progressive Conservative opponent Laurie Scott, who gave up her seat so Tory could run. Tory repeatedly thanked her in his concession speech.

Had Tory won, he would have been able to return to Queen's Park to lead his party in opposition to the Liberal government of Premier Dalton McGuinty.

  7. Tory has no balls, he is more into socialism than a Communist party. There's a reason Tory was run out of the PC party, not even being able to win a long standing PC region by-election - He's a fucking pussy - perfect for the city of Toronto.

I can’t believe this didn’t get more press or attention.. the Hip got more and they were nothing but an Ontario bar band.  Rush was world class, no hit on Gord, but really.....pretty weak Canadian response, but no surprise. Most new Canadians have no idea who Rush is or was.  Sad country

Drummer vs Lead Singer. Personally, I never cared much for Rush, it really was an acquired music sound that you had to like.

Also, think about this stat Between 1996 and 2016, The Tragically Hip were the best-selling Canadian band in Canada and the fourth best-selling Canadian artist overall in Canada.

They were known to a generation when Rush was not really a factor.

I got fucking Pneumonia at Christmas, i have not even started my sled since before then.

Goodbye to one of the Biggest Paws

09-01-2020 | Author: Kingston Humane Society

Hot Off the Collar | Volume 6

The story of Sean and Rupert, like so many of the heart-tugging, smile-inducing stories we see here at the Kingston Humane Society, was born out of dire circumstances.

On Christmas morning, in 2009, Officer Sean McCaffrey of the OPP was working 401 duty. Early that day, as the rest of us were opening stockings and settling in with our families, Sean spotted a black lab that had been hit by a car. He parked his cruiser, grabbed a few dog treats and cautiously walked towards the injured pooch. As he approached, he could see the dog lying in a pool of icy water. He needed to act quickly. Sean held out a few treats. The lab didn’t whine or growl. He actually wagged his tail and gobbled down the snack. Sean removed his duty coat, wrapped it around the dog and lifted it up. He could feel bones that were out of place or broken as he navigated the frozen ground back to the car. He transported the dog to the Kingston Regional Animal Hospital. The on-call vet wasn’t sure if he would survive. They stabilized him but he would require more substantial surgery and a long recovery period. With help from Dr. Cherie White and with support from the Kingston Humane Society (KHS), the beautiful black lab, dubbed “Rupert” would pull through. It was a long road of rehabilitation, but in August of 2010, Officer Sean McCaffrey officially adopted Rupert. Later that fall, Sean decided he wanted to give back to the Kingston Humane Society so he and Rupert walked in our annual “Big Paws” fundraising event. To no one’s surprise, they raised more money in pledges than anybody else. That trend continued…FOR 10 YEARS. Each year, Sean would rally his friends, family and colleagues. They would raise a bunch of money and walk alongside all of the other dogs. This year at Big Paws we celebrated Sean and Rupert’s 10th anniversary of walking, raising in excess of $10,000. As a result, they became celebrities with appearances on TV and radio and their community of fans and supporters grew rapidly.

Sadly, last November, Rupert was diagnosed with cancer in his left, rear leg. Normally doctors would amputate the leg and eliminate any chance of the cancer spreading but in Rupert’s case, the comprehensive nature of his injuries and repairs made that impossible. Sean then made a decision to proceed with palliative care:

“His best friend and Doctor, Cherie White prescribed a pain management therapy and he continued on as normal…well as normal as it gets for a dog rebuilt after being hit on the 401!! We had a great 3 weeks of eating and drinking all the food (he may have shared a Corona as well…) but sadly, Rupert was put to rest this morning…I will forever be grateful to KHS for their gift to me. He was given an extra 10 yrs nobody thought he had and lived large!!! I like to think he helped save many dogs along the way…” — Officer Sean McCaffrey

As you can imagine, the entire staff of the KHS was devastated to hear the news. Sean and Rupert helped hundreds of dogs during their journey together and set a standard of care and compassion not easily surpassed. We are proud to have played a role in Rupert’s life and prouder still of the work the two of them did to promote animal welfare in our community.

In recognition of the significant amount of donations Sean and Rupert raised over ten years at Big Paws, we’re re-naming the award for most Big Paws pledges in Rupert’s honour. From this point forward, The Rupert Award will be given to the individual who raises the most in pledges for the annual KHS Big Paws walk.

We’ll miss you Rupert but your legacy of strength, tenacity and courage will last for a very long time. Rest easy big fella.

    – Gord Hunter, Executive Director

    Who's that with, Steve?

I'll have to do some adding to see if I am the same/close or miles away with The Co-Operators. Car, truck, house, boat, 2 sleds, sled trailer, and a Monte Carlo in storage with just coverage for that.

I just had mine renewed due to retirement and my age but it never went down 1 cent. They did try to up sell me though,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, due to climate change.

State Farm..Dejardins I also have a corvette under Hagerty, but its only a few hundred a year. My biggest pet pieve is my sled.. its about $900 a year '1200'. The previous Polaris 600 was only 400 ish.

    • Thanks 1
  14. It was very busy.. Busiest i have seen it in years. Same typical vendors as george mentioned. I only wanted a pair of snow pants and came home empty handed.. either sold out the common sizes on the good deals or didnt like the others.

The 1200 throttle lag was a total farse by Supertrax, it's simply a lower engagement RPM and the throttle response is almost annoyingly touchy on hardpack. You can really make it do it if you put the sled on a stand and make vroom vroom noises lol. Anyway that was the throttle cable style 1200 up until 2015, the ITC drive by wire ain't worth a shit IMO and it almost put me in front of a truck on my 2016 1200. I ain't owning one with ITC and all that turbo and tech under a hood you can't remove for 150 HP ?? Swing n a Miss by BR

I have owned both, the second being a 2018 1200.. The ITC is nice because it allows the sport, normal, eco mode. Sport mode is fun!! I don't really call it lag, its just immediate engagement, its almost the wrong mentality, we all get on our sleds and rev the engine because... ? You don't need to rev to 5000 rpms for engagement, there is enough torque there to go as soon as you touch the throttle and that's how the 1200 has always reacted. I have not been on a 900 but I am sure it acts the same way, especially with the drive by wire. I will miss the 1200 😩

    Waaaaay more than shitty service.

My 2016 snowcheck 1200X was wrenched on and fucked with before I got it and they tried to hide it. I was compensated for that but then blamed for 1 of the first drive by wire problems with the sled which I did not do. The sled never worked properly and was down right dangerous to drive and it went back to BRP after a year of them trying to fix it. I did get Loaners and got my season in and all seemed well as BRP agreed to replace the sled, I was even privy to the emails agreeing to it. Then delivery of the 2018 X was withheld until I paid for the sled with my 2016 as a trade-in and BRP wanted mileage compensation for ~1200 miles that was put on it while it was trying to be fixed for over a year. Needless to say I lost my shit but took it on the chin as it was January and I needed a sled. BRP did nothing despite the proof that they agreed to replace the Lemon and as far as I know they did replace the sled to Quinn's. Quinn's apparently needed a piece of my ass after 2 years of being fucked around. Live n learn...

Brutal.. I get them wanting the sled, but the difference they could have worked with you on.

I bought one of those 2015 indy russian-special 600's, from Byers. First shake down ride out in the ganny(less than 5 km) the thing was missing and the check engine light came on, so i took it to DT powersports on my way home.. they didn't want to do the warranty work, almost refused to even look at it. I insisted as I lived close to there then. Thankfully they fixed it within a week and everything was good.

I thought so too, great dealings for a bunch of years, considered friends and then got completely lied to and fucked over. I doubt I'll buy new BRP again but it sure won't be from Quinn's. With SC gone I'll be using Gateway, they've become real good to deal with.

Don't blame ya there, shitty service is the worst to deal with. I've only bought two brand new sleds and 1 was brp from quinns.

  18. They can track them with the permit #.. its just a matter of how far they go. Just ordered mine yesterday and got priority shipping.. hopefully they don't fuck it up
