Rising food costs, sad meals and shit service has really cut down on restaurant patronage. I've always tipped pretty well because my wife used to wait tables in college and I had some buds that did the same. 25% is the norm. But, shit service may bring 10.

T.I.P.S. means "To ensure prompt service" and it used to be paid before the meal. It got backwards as a way to reward quick service after the meal then got even more backwards as a way to supplement income....earned or not.

Dining since the plandemic has become abysmal and so many poor experiences has made us make the easy choice to just not bother anymore.

It all depends on the restaurant, the food & the service, fast food joints no tips, pizza joint if I'm picking up a couple bucks, if pizza is delivered a couple more bucks........

We should make it go away. Whole setup makes no sense. Charge me appropriately for what I buy. If it's exemplary I will add otherwise fuck off. I still tip because the wages of the service people are shit, but that's antiquated.

The dumbest are fucking coffee shops with super automatic machines. Tip them for hitting a button....their job is literally to hit that button. Dumb.

I’ve never been much of a restaurant goer, but I’ve always tipped 20% minimum. Given the assholes out there today, waitresses have to be nuts to do that work.

My fave is Chipotle. They serve you on a tray, you have to get your own napkins, fill your own drink, condiments, clean up after yourself.........and then ask you if you want to leave a tip at checkout. Fuck off with that nonsense. OTOH, when I'm out for dinner, unless you pour hot soup down my back, good chance you're gonna get 20% from me.

I detest that. Asking is a guilt prompt. And I'll say no in a second. Put a tip jar out or, allow me to choose with a receipt.

Tipping has become nothing more than a wage replacement. And that's how most servers view it now. The customer is responsible for their wages....regardless of service. It's shit.

They should list the prices inclusive of service and tax. No extras, nothing hidden. The whole system is bullshit.

We agree. Tipping is antiquated and unnecessary as it no longer serves the purpose intended.

I can’t recall a time recently where Ive had shit service. Actually it’s been just the opposite. Myself and the family ate at the Border Burger bar in Manitou Springs, CO last month. Service was great and the burger/fries spectacular.

I'll keep that place in mind! I really need my faith in wait service restored from some angry mid 30's person that is mad at me for their poor life choices.

The only issue I had with the place was it had too many choices. I don’t want too many choices. I want good food cooked right.

Some really good parts in that movie. A bit slow for my tastes though.

over the weekend during our travels we stopped for lunch at a Jersey Mike's (chain) for lunch and their software asked if I would like to add a tip. the young girl who made our sandwiches was polite and such so I did 15% as I felt it was as described above a fast food situation and the stupid sandwiches were $10 and $12 already but whatevs'. on Saturday we went to a bar with my cousin and his wife for drinks before the fireworks. four adult beverages and a kiddie cocktail for our godson was $16, to which I told the bartender (who was super friendly and told us the best place to watch the show nearby) that seemed way too cheap and gave her a $10 tip. cousin did the same thing on the next round. I'm not anti-tip by any means... but have noticed we're seeing it suggested or prompted with the bill in more and more strange places. haven't flown in a while, are Sky Waitresses asking for tips now too?

the greek restraunt we ate at sunday morning... too many breakfast choices on their four page breakfast menu

Have you shopped for band aids lately? Holy fuck. Almost an entire section of the store dedicated to band aids. Why?

There's a couple places we'll go to in a pinch but now, dining out is akin to taking a shit in a porta potty. I can wait until I get home and avoid paying out the nose for a bad experience.

Tip between $500 to $1,000 on a 7 day cruise. They deserve it and I appreciate it. Outwork most any service industry workers could hope to.

Put some of these people on a ship and try to keep up. That would be funny.

I’m a good tipper in general, especially at my repeat places, the staff literally jumps when I walk in. I appreciate that and thank them generously.
