Axys Indy vs Matryx Indy

As the Matryx has been around for a couple years now... what have people that have put miles on both chassis found better or worse ergonomically or from a rideability standpoint in comparison?

Just curious...

Long story....

2025 R-XC 858

Put 7 miles on it last year and wouldn't rev. Dropped off at dealer, bad servo motor after I finally convinced them to take it for a ride. Rode it one full day after that and season was over, should've been out of break-in but still wouldn't rev consistently. 150ish miles on it at end of season.

This year, put some clutching in it preseason and rode it about 40 miles prior to an appointment for '26 reflash. Waited for it and told them it wouldn't rev. They said ride it. ~190 miles. Rode it for the weekend and dropped it off again. Would briefly rev to 7k then fall to 6500 like it was in limp mode.

They put stock clutching back on it, no change. After back and forth, cat told them to put injectors in it. Took another week to get them and no change. Another week plus gone.

Cat then supposedly had them run through a bunch of things and decided to program a new ECU. Again, another week to get and sled actually ran worse. In the meantime, a buddy's sled went down so he was going to ride my procross (that I thankfully kept) and I was going to ride the 858 in all its 6500 rpm glory. Told dealer to put old ECU back in so I could ride it for the weekend.

Picked it up, ran like shit and ran out of gas right after warm up on way to fill up. Got towed, filled up, rode back to cabin which was ~2 miles away. Got back to cabin and gas gauge showed half a tank.

We decided to stay in for the night. Went out next morning, started it, looked like someone was dumping gas out of a can underneath sled. Dragged it on trailer, took it back to dealer, spoke to owner and showed him the gas leak. That's the day I rode my buddy's 850 matryx.

Told him it's been nearly 2 full seasons with a sled that's never run right. I've been more than patient but told him I was done and that someone needed to make it right. That's where it still sits. It's been almost 2 weeks and haven't heard anything since last week. New ECU was still in 1st stage break-in, but they couldn't run it until the leak was fixed. I'm actually surprised it didn't start on fire while I was riding it.

So I've been riding a procross 800 from 2020. Better than nothing but not happy about it.

Pissed to say the least.

Damn that sucks….thinking about buying an 858 tomorrow….eesshhh.

While I can't wait until they fix the textron mess to have another option there is zero chance I would buy one now

Thing is, I've seen quite a few 858s on the trail and at stops. I've always tried to chat with people riding them and haven't found anyone that has had any issues. Guess I'm just lucky! lol

You haven't run into one of the guys in our rinding group, apparently. He bought a '25 858 last year, and it plagued him most of the season with codes and being forced to ride in limp mode. I think he had it in the shop at least 3 times? Fast forward to this season, we were in the U.P. and we made it to Houghton on Day 1 ... had breakfast, and as soon as we were getting ready to head north it threw the code again. Pissed off, he headed over to M&M to have them look at it - and was so pissed off he was debating on just dumping it and finding a new sled. He told us to just go, and he would either limp it back to Krupp's, or he'd be on a new sled and would meet us later in the day. Fast forward 4 hours, we met him right back in Houghton, and he was on a new '26 858 ZR! LOL

Well, go figure, the next day we're heading out for a south loop and about 10 minutes into the ride ... HE POPPED THE SAME EXACT CODE. We were joking within our group, "Does Dave have a sidearm on him, because if he does I'm going nowhere near him!" He ended up limping the new sled back to the resort, threw it on his trailer and headed back to M&M in Houghton. They got it fixed this time - something to do with the APV's and the servo motor, and the bracket they're mounted on? Needing to be adjusted (bent) properly. Thankfully the sled hasn't skpped a beat since then, and he's racked up 1800 miles this season.

So, nope - you're not alone @soeaster

That’s rough. Hoping the ‘26 treats him better.

Going to dealer next Friday to see if we can come to some sort of resolution.

Fingers crossed…I’m picking up a 2026 ZR 858 137 SnoPro tomorrow. Keeping the Assault but just had to have a Catalyst!🤘🏼❄️😜

The Matryx and Catalyst chassis are very similar, so I'm certain you'll like the new SnoPro ... congrats! The one thing I noticed when I've ridden the two different 858's in our group is, the Cat still has way more vibration than the Polaris. Handling, though, is good ... Cat handling has never been a complaint in my book. I still like my Assault Boost better though LOL 😆

Thanks and it will be interesting to be on a coupled 137 as my last 3 sleds have been uncoupled 146’s…2 Assaults and an Xterrain.❄️🤘🏼

interesting ...

I’ve had the steel shock inserts and doubled up O-rings for years… the old XCR stock plastic ones take a beating and slop out over time/miles.

I like his thought process, not sure I personally need to go that far.

My bud with the Boost Dynamix is getting some “testing” parts from Wenzlaff in the next couple days… hopefully for his trip next weekend.

I found the entire build and swap interesting, the Hygear linkage to make the Pro CC skid ride more like an R-motion has my curiosity. idk that I'd have gone with SX spindles but was following along with his geometry and weight distribution concepts. kinda has me thinking more about the 650 Matryx with a few of the Cross Country race sled components and maybe the HG linkage thrown at it. 130-140hp from the 650 puts it in the same range with my 720 which is fun around here in the woods n stuff. probably 128"... anyway, I enjoy learning about 'other stuff' before I waste my $, my brand loyalty has really tapered the past few years and I've never owned a Polaris.

edit: I didn't add the other video in the first post... oops! lmao

That red XCR I rode last week has that linkage also, it does work with all the other goodies and eats everything. It is a sweet setup for sure. I’m sure I will be going down that road if I get a non-Dynamix suspension this coming year.

You can ride mine anytime. I have an adjustable riser set to about as high as the stock cables will go. As setup as it can be for your height.

A buddy just gave me these… 4”

i can attest the hygear linkage. ran it last year in my xcr 128 and just 10 wt oil in the shocks and it was much better in the stutters . still wheelie and fun , just floats the small ripple out. this year my 25 xcr 136 has the cross country long tails, hygear dual rate ft spring , hygear linkage, and andy's revalve. i initially asked him for a revalve for the linkage which i suggest doing if you only do linkage. he suggested i would benefit from the spring change as well. so i did the works, all his specs . i told him how i ride and the results are out of this world. i am over 1500 miles , and this thing is a pleasure to ride. small ripple to all out craters it is so ready to do battle. does have a very calm , smooth ride and does not pile drive your spine. i have launched some hill tops this year at good speeds and it just flies straight and lands with confidence. riding down in to low areas with bumps that used to crash my frt torque arm i now give more throttle and feel nothing. only drawback is it showed how weak the frt is , but i'll have a conversation with andy again . then this thing will be an ICBM

does the 7S run off the battery

if someone who doesn't mind pull starting their sled wanted to remove the battery and electric start nonsense, would it effect the gauge in any way?

  • USA Donating Member

I thought I read fluctuations will make it not work, but you could just put a small light battery in the sled if you took out the starter and main battery to solve that.

I think it will work with the battery removed but you would have to have the sled running the rmk don’t have e start and you can get the the 7s

I put an iso vibe on it so it is taller than stock is pretty much perfect now.

I liked it, so that's probably on the list of 'things to do'... which there's several of after putting some miles on it.

can I still use this?
