Axys Indy vs Matryx Indy

  • Gold Donating Member

As the Matryx has been around for a couple years now... what have people that have put miles on both chassis found better or worse ergonomically or from a rideability standpoint in comparison?

Just curious...

I'm looking at adding to the stable and have limited time on an Axys but the seat seemed fine. Seem to recall someone saying the headlight was better on the Axys but , not that it would steer me one

Definitely sit a little more forward on the Matryx, 2-3” - but the front end is basically the same since 2015. In the time I’ve spent on one (10-15-25 miles at a time) it’s an improvement ergos, I just like the bigger seat on the Axys. I know I’d get used to it in no time though.

Lights, true, my Axys is better without punch lights.

i rode a 21 vr1 matryx chassis and didn't care for it. i'm about 6 ft , and it felt cramped and the seat felt lower. one thing i liked about the axys was the seat being nice and high. so i bought a 2021 xcr 850 128 while i could. i rode that 5k and loved every minute. i did some changes in the rear and it was very comfortable to ride. i bought the 25 xcr 850 136 last march. did lots to the rear and it rides amazing. i do feel the lower seat , and the tendency to slide you forward. i rolled my riser up and set the bars to my like to get it to not hurt my shoulder. riding cramped up. axys i could squeeze the tank with my knees when going fast . can't do that now , but i can tell you this thing handles awesome. standing is great , i've adapted to the riding position and have come to like it. you know that bumped and bermed corner you can just lean way in and throttle through . feel like my weight has more effect on the machine. if i had to pick i would take the matryx. but if i had no sled and an axys was what i ended up with i would not be sad. it's a great chassis

Can't say I felt the seat height difference that much going between an 18 Assault and 22 XCR, Bigger difference was the uncoupled vs coupled. I hit my knees way less on the matryx. As you know, I am way taller than sleepyb so perhaps at my height the way you sit is different.

Personally if you find a ridiculous deal on an axys working on the setup and shocks is way more important than the difference in the years.

as petty as it may sound I think the Axys is more visually appealing.

Depends on the color scheme. Generally yes, but there are some exceptions. The headlight on the Matryx is goofy looking and sadly doesn't work as well

need to find an unmoleated low mile stocker... I'm sure there's one in Iowa

Always in iowa

Dad said his axys big ass windshield sucks compared to the maytrix big ass windshield. He likes the 137 coupled skid on the axys over the 146 assault. Other than that he didn’t say there was a huge difference. His axys has like 7k and the maytrix has like 4k on it now

that 600R (the race sled) will stomp the shit out of a 720... the XCR, about equal as the 500 case doesn't breath as well as the 600

Rode an 850 Matryx last weekend for a day instead of my 858 (long, stupid story) and really liked it. May have to have one if my 858 ever gets figured out or bought back.

Rode one for two days and though I could make it work, setup for a 5’10” guy is definitely different than for myself at 6’5” - but I will be getting a Matryx this spring. Fit means a lot on these things no matter what you ride.

You can ride mine anytime. I have an adjustable riser set to about as high as the stock cables will go. As setup as it can be for your height.

I have 2200 miles on mine now. I put an iso vibe on it so it is taller than stock is pretty much perfect now. The front arm in the skid is weak imo especially being an xcr. I will probably re spring it next year. Other than that it has been one of the best out of the box sleds I have had in a long time.

What’s the issue with your Cat?

What’s the issue with your Cat?

Long story....

2025 R-XC 858

Put 7 miles on it last year and wouldn't rev. Dropped off at dealer, bad servo motor after I finally convinced them to take it for a ride. Rode it one full day after that and season was over, should've been out of break-in but still wouldn't rev consistently. 150ish miles on it at end of season.

This year, put some clutching in it preseason and rode it about 40 miles prior to an appointment for '26 reflash. Waited for it and told them it wouldn't rev. They said ride it. ~190 miles. Rode it for the weekend and dropped it off again. Would briefly rev to 7k then fall to 6500 like it was in limp mode.

They put stock clutching back on it, no change. After back and forth, cat told them to put injectors in it. Took another week to get them and no change. Another week plus gone.

Cat then supposedly had them run through a bunch of things and decided to program a new ECU. Again, another week to get and sled actually ran worse. In the meantime, a buddy's sled went down so he was going to ride my procross (that I thankfully kept) and I was going to ride the 858 in all its 6500 rpm glory. Told dealer to put old ECU back in so I could ride it for the weekend.

Picked it up, ran like shit and ran out of gas right after warm up on way to fill up. Got towed, filled up, rode back to cabin which was ~2 miles away. Got back to cabin and gas gauge showed half a tank.

We decided to stay in for the night. Went out next morning, started it, looked like someone was dumping gas out of a can underneath sled. Dragged it on trailer, took it back to dealer, spoke to owner and showed him the gas leak. That's the day I rode my buddy's 850 matryx.

Told him it's been nearly 2 full seasons with a sled that's never run right. I've been more than patient but told him I was done and that someone needed to make it right. That's where it still sits. It's been almost 2 weeks and haven't heard anything since last week. New ECU was still in 1st stage break-in, but they couldn't run it until the leak was fixed. I'm actually surprised it didn't start on fire while I was riding it.

So I've been riding a procross 800 from 2020. Better than nothing but not happy about it.

Pissed to say the least.
