Polaris Just Patented a Composite-Framed Snowmobile. Are...

Supercars have long used carbon fiber and composite materials for their chassis. But in the world of powersports, that's just not true. Polaris, however, looks to be changing that as it's just patente

  • Carbon Fiber is good in certain applications. If manufacturers start getting into bulkheads it's basically going to be a throwaway chassis if it gets hit.

Burandt has been running all kinds of cf parts on his mods over the years. It wouldn’t be shocking if Polaris eventually sells something similar to the general public geared towards the FU money people.

Blade tried carbon fiber tunnels 25 years ago.. heat dispersion was a problem they encountered.

Didn’t boss racing run a carbon fiber chassis in Sno cross like 10 years ago?

idk that I'd want a one piece CF bulkhead/tunnel/boards unit... maybe individual pieces bolted together as once you nick or slightly crack CF shit can go downhill quickly.

see Titan Submersible...

Çrnr 2 Crnr started on point....a $40K crowd when the manufacturers are having trouble selling inventory. ? ? ?

Blade and Redline couldn't pull it off when the economy was bustling and snowmobile production was near its peak..

Maybe Carbon Fiber Research & Development for future parts and pieces ? ? ?

This material just doesn't seem logical in an environment that slams, nicks , dents the machine on a daily basis. . .

An aluminum chassis doesn't weigh that much. There's probably better bang for the buck weight savings to be had. Just in hardware alone. I would be curious about durability especially in areas like the inside of tunnel where things get kicked around, rocks and ice glaciers. When those ice glaciers loosen up it sounds pretty fierce sometimes before they finally get out.

But I'm sure it would create hype because it's c.f. and that's bling.

Forget Bling and Carbon Fiber. .. Chrome Moly Tubing like the Red Line was built with.... strong , functional and repairable.

we use a bunch of carbon fiber and titanium on some of the race sleds. it's expensive and the gains are small, but it does add up.

bonded aluminum, chromoly, carbon body and non structural components and some titanium... fine

remember this?

but they're going to make an entire CF consumer chassis now? dunno

The OEM’s don’t give two shits about the fat, drunk, groomed trail riding slobs in the Midwest and Northeast. Mountain riding is where sales and reliable snow exist. Light is right and CF will greatly improve performance at high altitude. That market will pay the money for CF.
