Amid rising electric bills, states are under pressure to insulate regular household and business ratepayers from the costs of feeding Big Tech’s energy-hungry data centers.

either that, or states with moron dems in charge writing "green" laws.

Here in NY the geniuses have banned new construction from using any building less than 7 stories from using anything but electricity for heating, won't allow any natural gas infrastructure from being built (blocking the entire north east from accessing cheap clean energy for heating and electric generation), shut down a nuclear power plant, and in 5 or 10 years all new vehicles will have to be ev only.

Thankfully the majority of people don’t think like you.

Most everyone in NY is upset about/complaining about the massive increase in electricity costs, caused by the moronic democrats

Trump promised he would lower energy prices. Another failed promise.

Gas, and oil prices are down, but electricity cost are up here because the democrats in charge have forced increaced demand, while lowering supply, and maning that supply more expensive.

They are trucking LNG from PA to NY because democrats in NY have refused to allow new pipelines to be built

Calling gas prices down is a bit of a stretch. Sure 20 cents is something but not what was implied in the promise nor what any of the magat crew expected. And using an excuse from the past doesn't evade the fact that he isn't keeping his promise.

JFC ... 20 cents down is still saving people $4-$5 a tank of gas. Head out of this shithole state and fill up in WI and you're saving even more. Substantially more.

They are a temporary win for communities at best. They don't employ that many once operational and take massive amounts of energy. Other than property taxes which most likely companies have been given a deal on how do they or the states track revenue for these places? Do they technically bring any in and have any state taxes?

Why more residents are saying 'No' to AI data centers in...

The world's highest concentration of data centers is in Virginia. Many residents are not happy about that.

Promises of sub-$2 was cited and now you are happy with 20 cents which is in the noise of fluctuations.

Trump promised sub-$2 gas? I guess I didn't see that, but if you say so! I certainly wasn't expecting anything that low, but getting it back under $3/gallon has been nice to see.

He did claim that energy bills would be cut in half within 12 months if elected while campaigning in New Hampshire last year. He's still got 5 months....

I just did a quick Google on it and saw that too .. the promise of energy bills being cut in half within 12 months and a stretch goal of 18 months. I didn't see anything about $2/gallon gas, specifically. Oh well ... guess we may as well let DH continue to rage his daily TDS rant news

No, nothing about gas. I was just commenting energy bills as that is what the thread is about. However one could argue that oil / gas is part of energy.

Either way it was just a wild promise that I remembered calling out at the time when I read it.

When it's hot out our air conditioner gets turned on when it's cold out the furnace gets turned on.

When there's snow the truck and snowmobiles get filled up and I'm going. Even during the Biden Presidency when gas was over $4.00 per gallon.

You can thank Viper for highlighting that promise. Here it is. The bold is the $2 promise. Energy in half as well, but we all know that went up.

"We will also once again have the lowest energy costs of any industrialized country in the world. We were there just a few years ago. We were independent. We were not going to be needing Russia, not going to be needing the Middle East. We had more than they did. And we were selling it all over the world.

To get there, on day one, I will issue a national emergency declaration to tell the world that we are once again open for energy business. And we will be fully open. This will allow for the rapid approval of new drilling projects, pipelines, refineries, power plants, and nuclear reactors, which face fierce opposition.

At the same time, I will cancel every single one of Kamala Harris's and Joe Biden’s job-killing green new deal regulations. They are killing our country. We will end their anti-American energy crusade, and we will cut your energy costs in half and even more. Energy is going to bring us back. That means we're going down and getting gasoline below $2 a gallon, bring down the price of everything from electricity rates to groceries, airfares, and housing costs.

I will also stop the green new deal's war on American autoworkers. It's a war. And I will eliminate Joe Biden's insane electric vehicle mandate, which is another killer for our country. And we will once again have the greatest auto industry in the world. It's not right now. It's not being properly represented."

Again, blame Viper for getting giddy and believing it otherwise I would have missed it. It's absurd that anyone thought it could happen, but if you make a promise you should keep it.
