US import taxes will hit levels not seen in nearly 100 years

President Donald Trump began levying higher import taxes on dozens of countries Thursday, just as the economic fallout of his monthslong tariff threats has begun to create visible damage for the U.S. economy.

The import taxes will reach a level not seen in the U.S. in almost 100 years, with Americans expected to pay an average of 18.3% more for imported products. That’s the highest rate since 1934, according to the Budget Lab at Yale, a nonpartisan policy research center.

Despite the uncertainty, the Trump White House is confident businesses will ramp up new investments and jump-start hiring in ways that can rebalance the U.S. economy as a manufacturing power. But so far, there are signs of self-inflicted wounds to America as companies and consumers alike brace for the impact of new taxes

Buy less imported stuff or just buy less period. There used to be an old fool who ran around in here crying about peoples spending habits and the "trinkets" they were addicted too buying. Then a Dem got into the Whitehouse and he was happy to see people maxing out their CC's to buy shit. Same old coot that said we had too many small businesses

Pretty fair and simple.... Lower your tarrifs against us and open up your country to our trade. That's all Trump is asking

Maybe being retired and all you don't know that businesses aren't absorbing the cost. The Chinese maybe but not American companies. We pass tariff costs on to our customers and what they do with it is up to them.

Hilarious how businesses just asorbed all the green energy bullshit and never passed the cost on to consumers.

Exactly. Assuming the new taxes don’t change tomorrow, which they could, they’ll reprice.

Yeah....let me know when I start paying more..

Cuz it sure as shit ain't happening so far. And sounds like it will be minimal with many businesses absorbing the costs.

Yup ... exactly 👍

Who do you know that it's affecting besides the businesses? Very very little has gone up to affect the actual consumer such as myself

Yeah sure...... Just like all the "economists" said the end of the world was about to happen and have been proven wrong.

....... And they will probably be proven wrong again. Meanwhile Trump will be getting many deals together for the benefit of America

The tariffs have applied to very little stock that is being sold now. Appliances jumped a bunch to cover the costs, the rest is coming. Now that they are finally stable companies will adjust.
