My daughter who still owes, just told me a payment was made wiping out her balance on July 15th - she has no idea who or what paid it.

Really glad this is all behind me. Daughter has a few more years to pay off her loan, but most of that was because she wanted to live in a “nice” place. Sometimes you just can’t convince them it “does not matter” at that moment in life.

MIT is "only" $62K a year......

I don't care how much money I had I wouldn't pay almost $100K a year for a kid to go to college.

This is what irritates me, I did the national guard to take advantage of the free, public instate tuition. I ended up staying in for 7 years to meet my commitment. I got out before Desert Storm happened and was lucky enough that I wasn't called back.

I think of all the guard and reserve members that ended up in the middle east full time to meet their commitment that joined for free college. Many were over there longer then full time army / air force members served.

To have loan forgiveness... go find a way to pay it off. You took out the loan, you pay it back.

I hear ya ... lil brother did four years Army and got his degree. this was before Iraq/Afgh fortunately, for him.

And how many of these college degree jobs will be partially or fully replaced by AI? Shit a lot of creative degree's that involve graphics or writing. Accounting, code writing even some engineering.

We better get our act together when it comes to this or a UBI system will be needed sooner rather than later.

Going to be a long, long time before pipe fitters, plumbers and electricians are replaced with AI/robots. Unless the trajectory changes those jobs are gonna be worth $250K a year in the not to distant future.
