Dairy farmers worried

Just another shit article. No mention of how the previous administration dropped the ball on maintaining a proper functioning system of documented immigrant labor, just blaming this administration now for making corrections to the whole system. And the one comment below the video "make MAGA kids do the work". Oh yes, cause that's the problem....the MAGA children.🙄

Every single time we see a high speed chase my wife goes..."say it honey!" And I respond "just shoot the mother fuckers."

Running from police in a 3000+ lb weapon is no less dangerous than pointing a loaded gun at someone. Both are enough probable cause for lethal force.

You know I feel sorry for both in this situation. I feel sorry for the dairy farmer who needed to grow to 600 cows to make a living , because he wasn't making enough $ to survive doing the work himself when he milked 50. I also feel sorry for him that he had to hire someone illegally, because the program didn't make sure that workers were available to his operation legally, or maybe they actually were and he didn't feel the need to do it that way.

And I feel sorry for this young man, who the program wasn't in place for him to come here using the right pathway. He's obviously a hard worker and worth his money. Be nice if the situation could be fixed that he could stay, but we'll see I guess.

Well my neighbor and good friend runs the new pig operation of a large family owned hog operation and he claims its not hard to get out of country workers legally at all. I believe there are some hoops to jump thru like providing them housing and what not but that's fair in my books.

There's also the old adage if you pay enough you will find the workers.

I'm not opposed to legal temporary or even path to permanent immigration workers.....what I am opposed to is excuses....both from the worker and the employer. Do it legally or don't do it. If we need to make it easier fine but it shouldn't be at the expense of the taxpayer.

It's called H-2A and believe it or not, some farmers try skirting the laws in this country

https://www.uscis.gov/working-in-the-united-states/temporary-workers/h-2a-temporary-agricultural-workers

The H-2A program began in 1952 as part of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). The program was created to allow temporary foreign workers to fill labor shortages in the United States. In 1986, the INA was amended to create the H-2A program for agricultural workers and the H-2B program for non-agricultural workers.

History of the H-2A program

1952: The INA established the H-2 category for temporary unskilled workers

1986: The Immigration Reform and Control Act split the H-2 category into H-2A and H-2B

2001: The Premium Processing Service was introduced for H-2A petitions

2008: The U.S. Department of Homeland Security created the Eligible Countries List for the H-2A

Purpose of the H-2A program

The H-2A program's purpose is to fill labor shortages in agriculture without harming U.S. farmworkers. The program has expanded rapidly in recent years.

Challenges of the H-2A program

The H-2A program has been criticized for abuses, including:

Workers being dependent on employers

Workers having little power to report abuses

Workers being blacklisted for fighting for their rights

Worth his money????????? The farmer is paying him $10 +-

a hour compared to $100k for an american. Why doesn't he help him become legal?

Agree. If you can do the paperwork to properly manage 600 head of cattle, you should also be able to do it for the help that it takes to manage them as well.

Picked a good time to almost double the size of the milking herd...

Innovative farm in Virginia can grow 4 million pounds of...

This method uses 97 percent less land and up to 90 percent less water than conventional farming.

maybe part of the problem is how we do 'farming' in this country in the first place?

America has for the past 150 years been the world leader of innovation and that's collectively led to our great success. Sometimes the old way of doing things is just the easiest path for some.

Some of these hydroponics places are pretty amazing what they can produce.

But that's a small niche market really, produce and berrys. Growing grains, hay, pork, beef, dairy, etc. takes major resources and that's just the way it is. Innovation has made it way easier, but i'm not so sure there's much room left for improvement.

Farmers have become glorified federal government workers.

Depends on what you are growing/raising.

An old farming friend put it best as of late.

There are two times of farmers. Those who are good at farming the land and the animals and those who are good at farming the government.

  • USA Donating Member

How much per hour are they paying the illegals?

Are they paying workers over time?

Are the taking taxes out of the workers pay?

Are the paying worker compensation?

Are the housing these workers living on the farm and if so are the charging them rent to live on the farm?

I'm not a farmer and not sure what the standard practices are for farm workers, pay, taxes, insurance, housing, etc?????
