$9,999 850cc snowmobile

For the guys who like to complain about 20k snowmobiles, what will their excuse be now?  Pretty damn good deal, that's what it will take to move them

how many years ago did we have that conversation? lol

Would have to guess it was 2014/2015 -ish...... not that long ago in some aspects. Not like me right now helping out a buddy who picked up a 2009 600 Sno Pro........... boy did I forget a bunch of stuff about those sleds....but not how much I don't miss carbs !

later, probably when you had the Skime.

was the 09 setup for SX or XC? ... and yeah, fuck carbs. that's the bonus side of the 720's... FI that chassis is SO easy to work on as well, just simple and effective. in a different thread recently while breaking in the RXC I said if Cat had put the Ctech 600 in that chassis with premium suspension... it would have been the best tight trail weapon ever. thumb

edit... if @SlugsOnSleds is reading this, Taper probably has more Procross experience than anyone I know out there... 😉

Windshield in that picture is not what you linked.

Otherwise, don't know why you care about windshields other people use. Sounds like you have something that works for you. Congrats. Golf clap for you.

Rxc . I own it. Best bigger windshield for them.

with an actual windshield you don't need handguards... imo. I have raynaud's in two fingers and am on blood thinners so trust me, I know what keeps my digits warm. 😉

two weekends ago after finally getting the fresh engine broken in on this I was running 96/97mph on the lake behind a perfect little pocket of air.

again, looking back at all the years that Herf, Selby or anyone else raced the Procross all day long at high speeds does anyone recall seeing a speedometer cover on their sleds?

https://www.countrycat.com/parts-accessories/snowmobile-accessories/snowmobile-windshields-mirrors/arctic-cat-7639-688-7639-689-7639-690-8639-077-8639-222-mid-clear-tinted-windshield-2014-2025-bc-m-nor-pta-riot-xf-zr

'Not recommended for models with vertical steering, handlebars may contact windshield when turning'.

I believe they're referring to the steering post and position on M models or the high country there, not a ZR, fwiw.

Years ago when we raced out of Devils Lake, it was like -40°F or colder out. So cold my trailer froze up Friday night, the propane quit flowing.

Some kid was in the tech line with me with a speedo cover and no handgaurds.

I told him to go back to dad and have him put a windshield on.

Said he'd be fine.

Pretty sure he didn't make it 10 miles.

hopefully he got a few good pics of him and his sled for the Book or the Gram before that reality set in

I think it was before the Skime sled. Might have been the 15 RR with the 920 in it... Or maybe the 18 800 LTD that we ran at the shootout that year... I don't remember. I only had a couple ProCross sleds...... 🤥

09 SX half asses trail converted. Wiring harness has issues....someone even spliced in a 4-way trailer plug into the main harness (At least they soldered the ends together)..... No stutter button. No diagnostic light in the cowl. Not even any wires left for either. Got the servo motor working and the sled running decent. Now to fine tune it. Told him to send it down the road.............but he won't.........

Agree.... 600 ctec in the SP Chassis (with engine reverse) would have been a great sled

either way, it's a while ago

a rare 08-11 SP 600 is original and not f'ed up by the four previous owners. how many idiotic and unrelated decals were on it?

yep thumb

the PC chassis made far more sense for packaging and mass production by being able to put any and every engine they made or could get their hands on in it... but what a sweet little buggy that would have been.

Catalyst is a far better chassis

Zero decals..... surprisingly

Yes, the PC made more "sense" ...but the SP Ctec600 would have been more fun........... We now call it a Catalyst. Pretty darn close to the SP ride / feel.....

Yes, Catalyst is far better than the ProCross. But at the time, the PC made more sense for Cat to produce than the SP chassis with the ctec 6 motor as C-2-C was meaning

how many different mills have been in the PC?

500/600/800 zukes plus zuke 4strokes

400/600/800 Ctech

1049/998 Yamaha

so, yeah... kinda makes sense to have a chassis they all fit into. thing is, customers moved on to new chassis and different brands during that twelve year run of the 'universal chassis'

Better throw a few dozen pieces of the vinyl flare or you damn well that thing will be a ticking time bomb.

The PC is what made Cat fail. They had what they needed but they built something else.

idk specifically it's what made them fail, but it did continuously make them less relevant every year they reintroduced it. it was their Ford Crown Victoria

seeing some of the foibles of the Catalyst coming to light i do wonder if the 'old guard' would have let the product get out the door in the same manner Textron did. with all the time they spent/wasted the issues that are coming to light out there makes me feel the bean counters made several of the final decisions for production.

  • USA Donating Member

If the catalyst feels like the SP and they would have not made the PC, they would have been class leading the past years instead of playing catch-up

ikr, but that's not how Textron operates. you bleed that dog until it's lame and let it die... and here we are

  • USA Donating Member

Textron definitely put the nail in the coffin. Sad.

yes, that's the speedometer cover, which does literally nothing.  ever wonder why Herf, the XC, Iron Dog and Enduro racers use an actual windshield?

the windshield that came with your sled is the one I bought for my brother's which still wasn't great on cold days at speed... so I put a better one on that you can still see right over the top of.

@taperk600 tested a handful of Procross windshields several years ago for top speed and the mid heights were the fastest.

Forget who it was on HCS that raced XC but they were using the Cobra mid and preferred it to the Cat mid.

@Not greg b might have a picture of the Ultimate Shield to post that 'D' concocted..

Still have 2 or 3 of the Cobra ones hanging in the shop for both Gen1 PC and Gen2 PC sleds. IMO, they pushed the air around you better.
