GM's Legendary small block was the 327/350, not an LS

Had a 400 small block in my 68 Camaro that was pulled from a Chevy Caprice.   Loved that engine...lots of low end grunt.  Put  12 to 1 high compression pistons in, Crane Fireball cam and 650 Holley Double Pumper Carb.  And 456 Gears in the rear. Would smoke almost anything on the road in my area back then.     Highway travel was a bit extreme with those gears....should have went with 411's

I even went to the local small airport  and fueled up with high octane  on occasions but that got very expensive even back then.

Owners that have reported the failures to the NHSTA….  Many haven’t reported the failures to that government agency.  Gm will have to let them know how many total now that they are being investigated

Yes. Vehicle recalls, unfortunately for the owners isn't anything new.

Who knows how many failures the 6.2 had?   39 disgruntled gm 6.2 owners made reports to the NHSTA but there could be many many more that didn’t report their engine failures to the NHSTA.

had a 6.2 ford blow up after the ford dealer didn’t put oil in it on an oil change.  I didn’t report it to the NHSTA cause it didn’t cost me anything to get the vehicle on road.

Probably hundreds if not 1000’s of gm small blocks 6.2’s blew up but owners didn’t report the problems to the NHTSA cause they were taken care of like the 39 that likely weren’t.  One of the poasters here had a new 6.6 gm gasser blow up on him and I don’t think he filed a report withthe NHSTA

The small block has sold more than 100,000,000 units. It must've done something right.

I dread having to buy a new truck. My 15 is in excellent condition with about 70,000 miles.

I shouldn't have to, but worry what will happen if mine somehow gets stolen or written off.

I should make sure I have replacement coverage as to mitigate my poss.

Most manufacturers had to rely on lower tier suppliers and sub par parts during covid.

They new it, yet kept producing and delivering.

Chickens are coming home to roost.

Replacement on a 10 year old truck?

Tell me the insurer

Thats a different engine platform. The gen 1 SBC is the best engine the world has ever know. Over 100 million of them and I am proud to have worked on and raced many of them. Simply the best engine ever.

we don't see many total failures. we are small. their must be something to it , as we have been told if you need a 6.2 and it's not warranty don't bother. not getting it. we have lots of lifter failure, injectors, transmissions, and tons of nitpick shit . tons of recalls, software updates galore, broken wires, thermostats , manifold bolts, and the diesels have their own set of issues on top of the normal stuff. we have seen some crazy miles on pre afm small blocks

I wouldn’t put the small block in the category as the best engine ever made. I’d say it’s #1 MB OM617 #2 Toyota 22R #3 Toyota 2G-FE or 2JZ. Of those the OM617 boot stomps everything for reliability.

the 5.7 in my tundra is up there with the v8s

SBC was used in many special foreign cars also. Everyone around the world knew about them and purchased them. McLaren used Chevrolets ultimate can am engine. No SBC but still a nasty engine right from Chevrolet R&D and TRACO. Chevrolet was top dog.

we laughed when they had zero v8s, selling full size trucks with a 4 cyl turbo. the king of v8s has none. even though that 4 cyl moves the truck , i feel no one will want it used later on

Was up in the UP riding the past 2 weeks with every motel loaded with trucks and trailers.  Not one EV to be seen more less pulling a trailer.

Had a 1980 Toyota Pickup with either the 20 or 22R engine... can't remember but that engine was bullet proof....zero issues entire time I owned it .

Same as this except extended cab. Was really the first pickup that had some lift and clearance to it out of the factory.  I was pretty excited to own it as a senior in High school.
