USA Donating Member Mag6240 Posted January 8 USA Donating Member Posted January 8 What will the narrative be when they find out moron arsonists started the fires? I mean, how do three separate fires “just start” out of no where? It’s unfortunate what ever the cause, just saying, we’ve seen this before. 1 Quote
Platinum Donating Member Highmark Posted January 8 Platinum Donating Member Posted January 8 (edited) Considering the normal nature of these events (Santa Anna winds) you would think those communities would do everything possible to minimize fires. For example often times power lines failing because of the winds start the fires. This is something they should be able to prevent. Edited January 8 by Highmark Quote

I heard they were shutting off some power in the vulnerable areas, just not sure where and what lines are affected. Quote

Reality is fires in LA county are extremely common yet people just continue to build in vulnerable areas. Hard to imagine insurance companies are even willing to insure some of those homes. Be interesting to see the federal govt response compared to NC hurricane and the Maui fire. Edited January 8 by Highmark 2 Quote
Platinum Donating Member Highmark Posted January 8 Platinum Donating Member Posted January 8 Seems after every one of these fire events in those hills the mudslides are next. Quote

Funny you mention hydrants , WSJ did an article a few weeks back on how homes with private hydrants were the big draw now. Quote

Yep everything burned so nothing to hold the hills together anymore. Another reason these fires are so devestating is these homes are on such small lots ( many times the lot isnt even 2 times the size of the home) that once one goes up the fire just burns it's way down the street. Not to mention the difficulty and danger in accessing these area's to fight the fires. Seems reasonable to have fire zones no different than flood zones. Quote

Back in the mid 80's I was framing houses in Calabasas ( Ventura county / LA county line ) and you could not fit a pick up between them. And these were selling for over 2 million in the mid 80's Quote

hayward Posted January 8 Posted January 8 I like the finesse of the bulldozer moving those BMW's(sorry Snake) and porshe's and Woke vans (appologies Spinny) out of the way so they could get to the fires...... Quote

Sit on your second story deck with 20 families staring at you. I guess if you needed something your neighbor could pass it to you with neither one of you leaving your house.🤷♂️ Quote

All these houses are way out of their reach. Hardly any starter homes available anymore. All getting scooped up for rental properties. They are in the 200,000 range. Couple we have looked at (900sq ft. ) needs a bunch of work. Will they take less? No, they already have 3 bids. Edited January 9 by Cold War Quote
