Catalyst clutching

I have no interest or parts supply to go through the process of fine tuning clutching . I am quite sure that my 24 RXC has more potential and would like to purchase a good trail oriented flatland kit . Finding a kit seems to be problematic . Speedworx ( coming soon ) and the few others seem to have had kits out long before they had any opportunity to test ( not a fan ) BD seems to only suggest weights when allot of the people with a decent amount of knowledge - experience suggest the helix is wrong for the sled . I understand that there is a limited  amount of people and miles put on but does anyone have a decent , tested setup ?

  • we got some pretty good clutching on a stock 858, and now on a tuned one. I went with the simplest and cheapest option for now, as most guys seem to want. i'm sure as time goes and we get a chance to

I got 7 inches on the deck. It’s starting to snow again now that the wind shifted

Going to try this belt this year. Ran this brand belts for years on the 800 Cats with great results. SLIGHTLY shorter then stock,   They used to be stickier then OEM cat belts. Not sure how they compare now.  Fairly reasonable price.

46.770 in.  X 1.46 in.   XTX 5020

47.165" length x 1.508" wide     STOCK OEM  0627-131

Polaris Dayco XTX (Xtreme Torque) Belt. Fits various 99 & newer mid to high power Polaris Snowmobiles.

There is also the gates 48c4553.  That is what thunder was pushing last year.  I don't think it's the wonder belt they were saying but I need a spare so I'll pick one up for a spare and to compare.  If you have a Napa account they're $85 cost FYI.

Similar dimensions to the dayco 5020, 46.7 OD and 1.47" width

Another thing I notice on these catalyst is the screws on the secondary clutch. These hold the helix within the clutch. These screws suck!  Just installed a 50/46 helix with the venom Green silver secondary spring 155/220. The stock screws are good for maybe 2-3 changes and they get shitty(stripped). I found these that are a much needed upgrade. T 30. Put these in,,, you will thank me later.

If your planning on taking your secondary apart yearly(cleaning) or to try different helixes these are a must IMO.

Are the screws different than the previous Team secondary?  I have both, but it never actually occurred to me that they could be different.

I'm in the Rochester area about every other month now and it'd be fun to stop in Cannon Falls to see the BDX guys.  Or, maybe I need to put together an order...  better go check out their web site...

Im not 100% sure but guessing they are not the same as the Team. It does not matter if your using the correct size bit and a little heat. The screws are just of very poor quality/spec. They will screw you!  I use blue locker on these screws, along with a home made compression bolt/washers/tool that keeps the helix locked down before loosening them. I removed them for the 3rd time since I had clutch and they went right into the garbage. Couple were close to being snafu's . Just for taking the clutch apart yearly for cleaning you will want the T30 screws from BDX.

I asked one of the clutch companies about that. I could be wrong but I thought they said one is metric thread and the other is standard thread.

The new Adapt secondary uses 6x1 instead of the 1.4-20 Team used forever.

That’s a steal of a deal. Cat wants like 4.95 for each bolt lol. Been riding for almost a week now and have destroyed one belt and lost a fuel sender. Clutching is almost dialed in. Need to change how the weights are loaded and should be good.

Care to share your secondary set up?

You can get the same bolts from basically any hardware supplier for less.

That is a big deal if people don't realize.  It's pretty easy to get the wrong size started.

I dang near pulled the mistake with multiple secondaries on the bench.

I would avoid the hardware store for stuff like that, because I'm never sure the hardness is correct from what I need.  There is a fair amount of pressure on those 4 bolts, and tolerance/hardness is important.  Expensive bolts holding spinny things together are often worth every penny.

I didnt say hardware store. Also I would trust a hardware store just as much as I would trust BDX chinese hardware.

You're right, I apologize for misreading your statement.

speedo reading, where'd the dragy claim come from?

I know the guy, he's definitely not a bullshitter and spends the time and $ to make his shit work.

Pretty sure he posted a dragy screen shot. This was after he posted some different clutching set ups on the 600 RXC. This was last winter, and was some of the best real life results posted on here. The 600 is VERY capable of 100. Lets not forget the trail manners of this sled also. Is so easy to drive and the front end is yet still the best in the biz.
