Broken record: Atmospheric carbon dioxide levels jump again

Record setting May I guess…

https://www.noaa.gov/news-release/broken-record-atmospheric-carbon-dioxide-levels-jump-again

Measurements of carbon dioxide (CO2) obtained by NOAA’s Global Monitoring Laboratory averaged 424.0 parts per million (ppm) in May, the month when CO2 peaks in the Northern Hemisphere. That is an increase of 3.0 ppm over May 2022, and represents the fourth-largest annual increases in the peak of the Keeling Curve in NOAA’s record. Scientists at Scripps, which maintains an independent record, calculated a May monthly average of 423.78 ppm , also a 3.0 ppm increase over their May 2022 average.

We are carbon based. We exhale c02.

That's actually good news.

CO2 is an essential nutrient for land-based plants. The Earth's biosphere has also experienced a relative CO2 famine for many millennia—the recent increase in CO2 levels has thus had a measurable, positive effect on plant life.

Blame it on China and India.

let's face some facts... it's all our fault.

it has nothing to do with the 2.85+ BILLION people in those two countries that don't drive, eat or gobble up the worlds natural resources.

it's just us, and we should fully own it.

:)

Need to ban electric cars since they are worse than gas.

When I saw the headline I assumed the OP was talking about himself

I was going to say the same thing. He definitely sounds like a broken record..

Record setting?  We are in a historical co2 drought...co2 levels have been as high as 6000 ppm.

CO2 makes up .04% of the atmosphere.   Do you comprehend how miniscule a 3 ppm increase is?  Hell its only 7 tenths of 1 percent.

What is your point to constantly put articles regarding EV's and CO2 levels?

If you are looking for validation that you are saving the planet, I don't think you are going to find it on this site.

If you want to go and buy an EV, or buy some solar panels.  Feel free, give yourself a pat on the back, but constantly putting these articles on a snowmobile site, just seems to cause a divide.

Not really sure if that is what you are looking for.

Monitoring one spot in Hawaii to correlate worldwide CO2 which just so happens to have volcano's all around spewing CO2.  Hey look the worlds CO2 is going up.     Jesus dude.  :lmao:

From your link.

Due to the eruption of the Mauna Loa Volcano, measurements from Mauna Loa Observatory were suspended as of Nov. 29. Observations starting in December 2022 are from a site at the Maunakea Observatories, approximately 21 miles north of the Mauna Loa Observatory.

This is current events. There are snowmobile only sections on this site where snowmobile talk happens.  Also you can avoid these threads on your own accord….  But you choose to post them and engage in the debate.

So you don’t think co2 is increasing in atmospheric concentrations????  Like say from the 1960’s on?

I'm saying there is zero way to correlate that directly to man....especially at ONE observation point located near a volcano that spew's 8500 metric tons of it PER FUCKING DAY.  I even find that "measurement" difficult to do accurately....it could be far greater of which the study below admits they has estimated low.    Earth and all the natural emitters of CO2 make it impossible to quantify man's contribution to something that is such a infinitesimal part of our atmosphere to begin with.  On top of that you are taking a snapshot of what has occurred over a blink of the eye of earths history.   Correlating that to what is "normal" is absurd at best.

Funny we never hear of them weed out what CO2 massive eruptions might put into the atmosphere over time.   Nope any change gets pointed at mankind alone and that I have a problem with.

  • A CO2 emission rate of 77.1 ± 49.6 kt day−1 was estimated from volcanic and other emission sources on 11 July 2018

https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1029/2001jb000407

[1] We report a CO2 emission rate of 8500 metric tons per day (t d−1) for the summit of Kīlauea Volcano, several times larger than previous estimates.

Another Study.

https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1029/2020GL090507

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a greenhouse gas that plays a predominant role in climate change. Volcanoes emit CO2 and play a role in the global carbon cycle; however, the amount of CO2 they emit is highly uncertain. One of the main reasons for this uncertainty is the limited amount of volcanic emission measurements available to estimate these CO2 emissions
