Would buy second hand/repurposed/refurbished pack like I would on a Camry. Going to Toyota and having them put in a factory fresh engine would make sense on a 10+ year old Camry with 300,000 miles on it when you could get a junk yard replacement for cheaper then Toyota would in stall a new long block for. Again just got a motor from BMW for a 2010 750Lxi twin turbo 4.4 V8 for $3900

Nope, BMW dealerships don't sell used motors. Mitchell says 22.4 hours of labor to remove & replace, we are $152/hr

Paid $5k including labor which is cheaper than a 2010 bmw v8 installed with labor…..
Gold Member BOHICA Posted June 7, 2023 Author Gold Member Share Posted June 7, 2023 So how much did it cost? The modules were $1,500 each, for a total of $3,000. Another $750 in parts for contractors and fuses, with the main one being upgraded to the ones introduced in the Model S Ludicrous. With diagnostic and labor, it came up to about $5,000, or about 75% less than Tesla was quoting for a full battery pack replacement.

Yes you can replace a valve on a broken motor if that is all that breaks but not a catastrophic failure. There you linked the price at $22.5k. all to repair what was and always will be a piece of shit.

Going to a BMW dealer and having them replace an engine is likely going to be more expensive then going to an independent shop as well. They fixed the S for $5k by going to an independent shop vs the manufacture. You can fix battery packs dumb dumb instead of replacing it. He didn’t pay 22k to fix a model S battery. Only paid $5k, it’s in the link. Edited June 7, 2023 by BOHICA
