Crnr2Crnr
in regards to inflation, the cost of LIVING and who seems to be fucking us the hardest over the past couple years in my opinion the worst is the food/grocery industry. many of the items our family purchases on a weekly basis seem to have doubled and in some cases tripled over the past couple years. just made a quick run to the store for some odds and ends and barely had a quarter of the cart filled... $83 produce seems the worst and we consume plenty of it. didn't buy it but a fresh cut fruit tray for $20... pass. the other area I've seen creeping up is our Wisconsin Public Service bill for electricity and natural gas. thankfully we have a modest and efficient home and are reasonable with the thermostat all year. what's getting you and your family the worst? let's try... to avoid the politics for just one thread. I used to look forward to grocery shopping, not anymore. I agree, things have doubled and tripled in cost easily. I got a whooping 12 items today.for $142. I did manage to save $14 with some coupons, but that used to be an $80-$90 trip a few years ago..

Platinum Contributing Member Blackstar Posted December 4, 2022 Platinum Contributing Member Share Posted December 4, 2022 I have a friend who's worked in grocery stores for over 40 years. He always told me that fruits and vegetables were a lost leader. They loose money on these items to get you in the store so they can make the profits on your total bill. Box and can goods are where the money is. I just went to the grocery store. 3 heads of romaine is $9, and it was on its last days.

ActionfigureJoe
Groceries are the biggest cost. I’ve been doing most of my shopping at ALDIs. It’s a bit inconvenient bringing my own bags, but the savings is really good. Stores are super clean too. Dog food has taken some big hikes as well.

ActionfigureJoe
Back is 2014 Clark Howard did a study on savings shopping at aldis. It was over 40%. I’m not seeing that much. More like 30% savings. The great thing about aldis is they have all their discounts for the local stores on line. Just type in the zip.

Aldi is great…need to shop there more. Meijer is a Michigan based chain and they have better proced then either of our local grocery stores. I csn usually find things like blueberries and strawberries on sale for a decent price but overall groceries are very high.

That would have been 2-3 bags worth of stuff normally. We got 4-5 bags full.

It costs me around $500 more this year per week to run my truck just for diesel, not including the higher cost of maintenance products also. Rates have gone up slightly but not enough to offset the fuel costs.

IDK how high yours are but they've always been quite high here but we have good schools we pay a lot for. Once our daughter is off to college odds are we're going to move somewhere else to a smaller place in the country and be done paying her annual tax tuition fees. Our property tax bill should arrive in a week or two, I'll post it to show what % of what we pay goes directly to education.

I can't ever recall seeing such a divergence in fuel prices... $2.82 87 octane and $4.25 diesel locally.
