Auto industry related jobs kind of pays like shit though.  Pays to own the shop…. Pays like shit to work for who owns the shop.  Whopper floppers are not all that far behind any auto trades out West in hourly wage.

Hmm, kinda weird projection, our techs (again all under 35) make 80k+ a year.

80k gross or take home?  Pension? 401 match?  Health, dental and vision?

80k gross as a good wage so 20 years ago.  It’s not all that great today.

Yes to all of the above plus a monthly tool allowance and clothing, free use of the shop after hours and weekends for side jobs, parts at cost. What were you making at 25 years old?

80k gross seems high, at least for around here. I had a mechanic come work for me 3-4 years ago. Said he was making $28/hr.

Google search says average wage in Ontario is $29-31/hr.

I would think a mature mechanic with some customer skills would be making $35-40/hr tops.

Shop rates are $95/hr. Can't see how they could give half of that to the employee.

I hear diesel mechanics make more.

anyone needing tires or snow tires shouldn't hesitate. the prices are staggering, even for small sizes. i just sold a set of lt275/70/18 studded duratracs, 438.00 each on the truck. even the cheap brands are ridiculous. if you need , go get em'. not gonna get any better, or cheaper. snow tires already scarce and it just snowed for the first time . didn't get slick so everyone is holding off. then it will get slick, they will be crying when the only snows left are blizzaks. they work but are big money

12 months ago installed 4 BFG All Terrain TA's...275-70-18...A hair over a G$ complete @ Farm n Fleet...Today $ 328.00 ea plus...

Our shop labor rate is $178/hr, but again I run a unique shop for high end cars

So at 80k gross a year your techs are making like $38 an hour?

Flat rate with bonus incentives/commission and increases in hourly pay as I bill out jobs., base salary is $33/hr,  which never happens. One tech had a real good week, billed out 58 hours of work @ $63/hr but was only there for 32 hours.. He had Monday off.

what's an entry level 20ish year old "whopper flipper" making in your neck of the woods as you compared an auto tech to that. Here it's $15.75/hr as advertised on BK's signs..:news:

You have to go west if you want to make 6 figures making coffee.  At 66 though you don’t have what it takes
