Arborist? - Forster? - Logger? - Horticulturist??????

Honest question @Badger**you said you were 5 and your sister was 7, for how many years did you plant new trees and how many trees each year until you got into the Meat Industry?? You are about the same age as me or close to the same age, are you thinking about planting free trees they use to give away starting back in the early 70's for Earth day and Arbor day??? Some places still hand out free trees for kids and adults to plant on those days??

That's a big question, our land was a part of the old forest cropland management or "FCL" for Wisconsin that started back in 1927 till 1986, think our last allowable year to be in the old program was 1999 FCL it was a 50-year program. During that time planting took place every summer, some years we planted up to 10,000 to 15,000 trees by hand more or less whatever the tree planting machines could not cover due to uneven terrain or rocky ground and we had a bunch of family to help. Back then we got paid $0.10 a tree and we had fun.

The FCL program was enacted in 1927 and enrollment was closed on Jan. 1, 1986.

Now we are under the new program MFL that started in 1985>>

MANAGED FOREST LAW

The Managed Forest Law (MFL) program is a landowner incentive program that encourages sustainable forestry on private woodland. In exchange for following sound forest management, the landowner pays reduced property taxes. It was enacted in 1985 and replaced the Woodland Tax Law and the Forest Crop Law.

MFL is the only forest tax law that is open to enrollment. Land enrolled in the MFL program must be managed according to a plan agreed to by the landowner.

Our last big planting was in 2019 in the town of Neva, are seedlings we get from the Wisconsin DNR at a much-reduced price.

All you need is a spud and a 5-gallon bucket and lots of help.

We are logging a stand of hard maple right now in the town of White Lake, 480 Acres all allowable trees to be cut were marked by the Wisconsin Forestry Department under the MFL program.

Wow Wow Wow, wait a minute you're the one who said I've been in the "Logging Industry My Whole Life" Not me. Your dumb ass does understand their is a difference between the Logging Industry and Land Management and you've been in the Industry your whole life??? Logging is the process of cutting, processing and moving trees to a location for transport which may include skidding, on site processing and loading the trees onto trucks or skeleton cars and transported to lumber mills or other types of businesses to be processed into many other lumber products. Some of the lumber products are fire wood, wood chips, wood pellets and saw dust. Land management is planting trees, looking after the health of the trees and deciding when and what trees need to be cut down for the health of the trees. So It sounds like you're involvement was planting trees and not cutting trees for processing. If you've been involved with the "Industry" your whole life maybe learn the correct terminology for the "Industry"

So which one is it you have been involved with, land management or the logging industry???

I'm the one with no Clue about the "Industry" Hey fuck nuts look in the mirror as to the one who has no clue about the Industry, don't be scared of what you see when you look in the mirror, It's a fool trying for another Gotcha moment.

My father used to log back home (my home town has been a wood harvesting town for 0ver 100 years) with a horse. From the stories he would tell, it was the hardest job on the planet.

Went on to make his fortune cutting trees.

Oldest brother as well.

And my next oldest brother.

Used to just go out back of town, pick a dirt road, and go get out wood. Wood harvesting companies really had no problem with towns people getting their wood.

Don't bitch about the price till you process it from a standing tree to a pile on a customers property.

My Dad, brother and I had a pretty good ‘system’ for what we did.  Drop the tree, I would usually head up from the stump and ‘brush’ the trunk and top off with the 031, while my Dad hit the main trunk from the bottom with the 056.  We’d meet somewhere in the middle and have it all loaded in no time.  Drive to the pile, Unload and repeat.  We would mix in splitting as needed to get 40-50 chord ready for sale in the fall.  Paid for most of college with the proceeds - was $145/chord delivered and stacked.  Just three summers of cutting and we had wood to sell for about 10 years.  My Dad was burning then so he got his firewood for free!  LOL

When we were in wood delivering mode, we cut/split/loaded at once. We had the wood tree length, he would cut to length and I would be splitting right off the blade and split/conveyored onto the truck. We could knock out a cord in less than 25 minutes with good wood and the 4 way split.

My Dad's philosophy was possession is 9/10ths of the game.  We were allowed to cut the wood off land that was being developed, so retrieval time was of the essence.  Get as much as we could while the getting was good!
