I'd have to dig, but I KNOW my mother still has a pic of me standing in my Dad's Sorell's when I was about 8 months old... in 1966.

And yes, we wore them growing up and well into my 30's before trying others.

Still have a pair I use to mark trail with.  We'll be wearing them Saturday.

my Moon boots and Wonder Bread bags must have still been drying out from the day before  :)

riding gear (thank you GoreTex and Polartec) have made riding in cold or wet weather so much more tolerable.

I still have frostbite and frozen fingers and toes nightmares from back then, and helmets without breath deflectors so we'd ride with the shield 1/4 open and freeze the tips of our noses... :lmao:

wouldn't take any of it back for a moment, it made many of us are what we are now  ;)

Coldest I was ever out in was -43f, it was a 325 mile ride into Jonquiere PQ.  Duct taped cheeks the whole deal.  I had on my insulated Reima, gauntlets, etc., but cold is cold.  The hotel clerk greeted all of our group with a shot of grappa or some 120+ proof concoction.  The OG HCS Rob Lyons and Saguenay Bill were there that night, and had a couple brews with Rob.  :bc:

it gets bone chillingly cold (and worse if it's damp) up there.  was in QC several times in 2010 & 2011 for a project.  buddy of mine and I were up drinking scotch until four am one night and I went to bed, he (a Local) went XC skiing for 10K before he went to bed, in fleece, thin gloves and a stocking cap.  it gets cold here (4F yesterday morning) but no thanks to that shit all winter long.  Mid and Northern Quebec May through September... is lovely.

best food I've eaten anywhere on the planet... Quebec and specifically Quebec city which is a spectacular old city.

Its the only place we rode for probably 15 years.  Can make the border in 5-6 hours.  Then rediscovered northern Maine and have been playing there for the last 15 years or so.  Bring the sleds and park them, then commute back and forth from CT on weekends.  Our camp is on the Canadian border, and we started crossing the border post covid to get a mix of both.  Last year we put about 2000 miles in the motherland.  Hope to do a big loop and spend a night or two at this place.  Has a 50 foot hot tub, and a spa.  5 star joint with a casino, a few of us savages have rolled into here a couple times over the years.  They wouldn't let us in the casino without a jacket one year.  Sorry, I'm not packing that shit.

very nice, friends live on the opposite side of the St Lawrence.   have an open invite to go riding there any time I want with sleds provided but as I've aged the less I enjoy being cold... and traveling.  I can be cold at home, thank you.

stunning...

We had put a bunch of miles on, and we were on fumes and hungry.  I gassed up, walked into the relais, and she was the very first thing I saw.  I looked at Angry Ginger and my brother Spump and said  "excuse moi mademoiselle....pouvez-vous puis je prendre un photo avec vous?"  She smiled and just said, :oui!"  We all gave her a nice tip.  Some of those Quebec adventures over the years....

This fits my memories to a "T"!  Except, my second helmet was a full-face that I always had to ride with the shield cracked open.  First helmet was open face with a bigass Castre shield.
