The 2023 Cat Lineup...

Recommended Posts

I remember when RCA and Whirlpool started selling to Best Buy and their ilk.  Consumers abandoned the small dealers because were tricked into believing they were getting a better deal.  It was actually worse. Shortly after that, appliance and electronics manufacturers went factory-direct, which left independent dealers and distributors in the dust.

My point is, with the development of the big box retailers, the game changed and manufacturers like Whirlpool had to adapt to survive.  Small independents had to either find a way to live with getting screwed by the very companies they previously considered partners or go out of business.

The way CC, Thomas, Dvorak and other dealers are compensating for the lack support from Arctic Cat, and add to that the number of dealers that have been eliminated, it's giving me the same kind of feeling.

Ultimately, it's up to each dealer - regardless of brand or product - to make their own successes.  It's just that, for a long time, snowmobile manufacturers have done a lot of the heavy lifting for them and that was taken for granted.  I feel like the rug has been pulled out from under them.

What I've noticed about Polaris and Ski Doo dealers is that most of them have moved away from the single product line mom-and-pop shops.  Either they sell multiple brands and focus 99% of their energy on moving product with dedicated sales staffs, or they die.  High volume at all costs is better than knowing your customers by name and keeping them happy - kind of a Best Buy approach to sales.  This is probably the future for any of the little Cat dealers which remain, because it doesn't look like they're going to get any help from the factory.

My primary dealers have been multi brand for decades and they have all (3 of them) provided great service and support over the years.  I do blame Cat for screwing over their dedicated mom and pop shops that stuck with them through all of their bullshit.  I do feel bad for them but in a way you have to take charge of your business and do what's for it not for the manufacturer because that type of loyalty has been gone for a really long time.

ok @krom, which color scheme and windshield are they actually using for $15,199 or $15,499 (ES) ?

Are they sold out yet?

When can I order the 7000?

orange-7000.jpg

I can't believe they are asking the same kind of $ for 2023's as BRP & Polaris... for 2012's with BNG's  :lmao:

Had they launched earlier and had 'Snowmaggedon Pricing' they might have hit a double or triple...

fwiw, you can add quickly to the price with BRP & Polaris when you start picking out certain colors, tracks, gauges and options.  Cat otoh gives you no options, take it or leave it.

2023 pricing from Ken's sports... since Cat hasn't updated their website.  :lol2:

granted Snowmaggedon pricing was very good but there's no way on earth the cost to manufacture these has gone up nearly $2-3K worth the retail value in three years... not a chance.

@Crnr2Crnr

I tend to agree- if they had come in low like they should have, they would have probably done fairly well. BUT, no one is going to switch brands to Cat based on that pricing. This isn't just about the # of sleds you're selling- it is about market share. Cat may be able to sell units to those with green blinders on, but there is NOTHING that will pull people in from the other brands to increase Cat's market share.

Maybe their angle is to increase market share via the kid's sleds. But even there, the MX-Z Sport is a much better deal.

from my pov, the pricing doesn't match the product

the Neo's and 600 Sport models from BRP are a bargain compared to Cat at this point

we'll see if these prices hold firm to MSRP on the 19th...

I'm trying to imagine where they'd have priced RR models if they could get shocks for them.  I bet there's a lot of Cat loyalists that don't see the juice being worth the squeeze.  Bad move on their part if they don't have a pricing incentive on the 19th.

well @Badger** just to prove us both sorta wrong... :lmao:

using the cpi calculator the 2012 F800 Procross had an MSRP of $11,799 so in todays dollars that's $14,966

https://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpicalc.pl?cost1=11799&year1=201201&year2=202203

2010 Sno Pro 500 (the best sled they ever sold) was $8299 MSRP which in todays dollars is $11,011 but for 2023 A/C doesn't have a comparable $11K sled, or a $12K sled or a $13K sled... they have overpriced Procross and b-Last models... nothing in a happy medium.  They go from $9K to $14K with nothing in the middle and I believe that is a big gap, and a huge mistake.

https://kenssports.com/Showroom/Model-Results/Arctic-Cat/Snowmobiles/Mid-Sized/2023?ModuleGuid=806e161c-abbb-427c-9676-5a13f0f1f541

here's one more... 2014 ZR 6000 RR was $12,349 which equates to $15,178 cpi adjusted... or the same price as a 2023 RXC without electric start... for pretty much the exact same sled.

You'd be surprised.  Check out the prices on aluminum and then try to secure capacity and material to actually get the parts.  The producer price index is over 10% right now.  Take the increase in production costs from materials, labor, freight and add on Cats margin and $2-3k is easy to achieve.

The biggest thing driving pricing is Cat will sell every sled they can build this year.  No reason to discount them more than the competition.  Want a sled then pay up.  Pricing strategies before COVID have been thrown out.

It's similar or worse in our industry and JIT supply and manufacturing haven't helped matters.  A lot of the associated costs also revolve around how much of the 'product' is made internally and how much is sourced.

IMO, they don't actually care about selling their existing products and if they're going to have to go through the hassle of making them they're going to overcharge for them.  This years 'effort' is worse than last years lack of effort from where I'm sitting.

Yup.

Are they are still worried about getting the parts required to do that, or are they saving all their supplier capacity so they can build enough new chassis for 24?

Suppose us Procross owners better stock up on driveshafts since the sleds are nearly unchanged, the price has skyrocketed, and you may not get one until the following summer. What a joke.
