Installing long primary clutch springs

Recommended Posts

Some primary clutch spring are quite long and I've seen where the cover bushing is getting chaffed and damaged when guys are trying to install the cover and its not aligned with the post.

1) Buy (3) 4-1/2 long 1/4-20 fully threaded bolts with wing nuts and fender washers.

2) install the clutch spring and cover and then install the fully threaded bolts with the wing nuts backed out and slightly bottom out the bolts.

3) Use the wing nuts to walk the cover on while guiding the cover over the clutch post.

4) install 3 of the clutch cover bolts and remove the fully threaded bolts

5) Install the remaining blots and tighten them.

Bringing this to the top.   Went through a sled yesterday that had the primary clutch cover bearing all gouged that it needs to be replaced.
