Are we even going to have a flu season this year?

  • Seasonal influenza activity in Pennsylvania and the United States is high and increased significantly during week 48.
  • Influenza A and B are identified by laboratory testing, however influenza A is the predominant type.
  • During the most recent week, influenza A(H3N2) viruses have been reported by the public health laboratory.  
  • A total of 5,036 laboratory-confirmed influenza cases have been reported season to date. Confirmed reports were received from 65 Counties out of the 67 Counties.
  • Emergency Department visits associated with influenza-like illness has increased slightly than last week and is higher than this same week last year.
  • There have been two influenza-associated confirmed deaths reported this season.
