Anyone else getting parts, looking at their new sled or prepping their machines yet?

  • Gold Donating Member

I sent a set of shocks to Mike Carver for a revalve/upgrade and am making a list of shit I want/need on the shelf now for spares or otherwise, before winter rolls in and there's another parts shortage.

Anyone actually get their new 2022 sled(s) yet?

I picked up the two sleds from the auction under the close supervision of @Crnr2Crnr , and drove home Monday giving my dad probably the best 70th birthday present that anyone could ask for

  • Taking the good stuff off the parts pile for the new unit.

  • My latest box of parts arrived Saturday morning just before I was going out to ride so I haven’t used them yet.

I will be getting some new front end parts after last Sunday's deer hunt with my sled. 80 mph and hitting a deer dead center, brakes and bends various front end parts.

Deer legs are strong enough to even brake the sway bar.

Brutal. Sounds like you got lucky.

We have one stretch that is terrible for deer and it's a nice straight grade trail. I know of a few riders that lost against deer.

We try to avoid that section as much as we can but it's our main way out so some trips are inevitable. We call it deer hunting when we go down that trail. Sundown is a gauntlet. I ride much slower during that time.

I did get lucky ,it's was a yearling, but they are really strong when scared, felt like a piece of iron covered with fur that kicks like crazy.

Seems like the young ones are most likely to stay on the trails. I've noticed that the mature deer head out of the way further ahead while the little buggers will try running the trail to get away.

The stretch I'm talking about has an incredible deer population. If we do a sundown pass, it's common to see 40-50 deer.

Here's a funny story about the deal. We had a sled break down and towed it to a bar along that stretch. We left a buddy sitting at the bar while we rode back to get a trailer for the sled. He said that one of the locals sitting at the bar was bitching about how the wolves were decimating the deer population. Buddy said to the guy,

"You must not ride snowmobile."

Bartender chimed in and said,

"For sure."

Apparently the bartender is a local first responder. They get a lot of accident injury calls to that section of trail. I know there have been fatal accidents in that stretch as well.

The deer around here are a bunch of alcoholics. They all hang out at the bar

If I was even remotely fast I would 100% be ordering that thing as a pit coat right now. Seems like something mclovin would wear for sure

I might buy one anyway to match my out of date next year like new helmet.

The helmet is loud and gaudy as described by some people who have no sense of taste.

I am at 2,000 miles for the season now. I am 2.5 rides away from passing my catalyst’s total mileages. Last year around 1500 miles the catalyst clutches went out and it had to be parked while i waited on parts. The Polaris I had to put an ev motor in it but it was still rideable while waiting on the part. This junky Polaris has killed the catalyst in the reliability department.

In need of leaf spring wear plates.

Shockingly there is no remaining aftermarket ones or the like that I can find. Only OEM for $23 a piece right now. Guess I'll break out the scrap bin of HDPE at work this week...

Go cut some off an old Chevy in a junk yard. Probably used the same springs back in the day. On another note I have equaled the total catalyst mileage when it broke for good today. February 15 last year was the time it ran

Went riding today. This guy we passed parked in the woods. A couple hours later he came to the bar, re filled the cooler and headed back to his spot in the woods

Family ride weekend so I was busy wrenching this week. Took the skid and track and fuel tank from JagX, removed tunnel protectors completely, installed a 4 sprocket driveshaft, replaced front track shock with nos ryde FX, replaced front track spring and limiter straps with parts from 95 Jag, softer spring and slightly shorter straps. Replaced one of the rear idler wheels with a bad bearing. New spark plugs in JagZ. Tonight put new bushings in cam arms of the Puma, custom brass bushings.

Hopefully will notice a little easier cornering with the JagX with the increased ski pressure, will have to switch between the x and Z to compare. The Z is the handling king.

changed gearing and clutching again on the 720 and figured I'd try that 19T top sprocket on the 5hundo you'd spoken of several times and see how it performs. Do you recall if the helix was on 38 or 40 by chance? Thinking I'll try it on the 40 setting first and see what happens.

Pig pad and oil suction gun ftw...

I remember being in there but don't remember which angle it was at. I think Fett recommended the stock angle that the 500 came with but I don't remember what that was.

Stock was on the 40 side if I remember correctly for the 500. You switched to the 38 in the spring when the snow got heavy.

I'll test it at 40 first and see how it does.

Just did the 3000 mile inspection tonight. Pulled my clutches off and cleaned and inspected them, installed a new belt, tightened up the track, and made some pre load tweaks to the suspension. I am good for another 3,000 miles.

Next on the list is fuel filters.

Made it a whole 4 or 5 miles on the first one and only have one left.

I ordered them as an extra set to have I’m sure they’re the right ones. I think they were cheaper than the ones I got from the race dept for 50% off dealer cost

as long as the compound is comparable, the same or better... yes. funny how they tell you there's an even newer # than Cat (they must have old stock) but Hayes tells you to upgrade the brake rotor to the SX version. Idk that it's necessary unless you're doing the GD Soo on an XC or trail sled so it will be interesting to see what you find... so do keep us posted as that's a substantial price difference and we're going to need to do a set in the 21 RXC sooner or later.

The only time you really need the extreme duty rotor and pads is for the ice le mans or if you are really hauling the mail in a terrain race. Everything else the stock scalloped RXC rotor and pads is fine.

The RXCs come with the pads but just the normal wave rotor

I agree... without actual firsthand knowledge or testing

Took dad out on the lake in front of the house for the first time. That was cool. The suspension changes made a nice difference.
