Snowmobile depression survival thread

I live for snowmobiling.  The first ride I had was in 1968 by a classmates dad in a field in town.  Nobody in my direct family was into snowmobiling so I guess I branched out a little. About 5-6 years ago I owned 13 sleds and a lot of NOS Polaris parts but have trimmed that down to 6 sleds and sold some parts.  Currently have 4 limited  build, one with an aftermarket motor and 2 current trail sleds.  A guy in our club always had a camera at all our events.  Here's one where the 1988 sleds were new at a local event that some of the local area dealers brought sled to.

I first rode a sled in 84-85 but started really digging through my dads sled mags in 87-88. These pictures take me back to plastering the walls of my bedroom with sled pics.

My room growing up was plastered with Snow Week covers - the glory days of snowmobile racing. Then when my grandpa was going through boxes at his house he brought out magazines from the late 70s on into the 90s in boxes and that was the COOLEST because I loved how the sleds looked then vs the late 90s early 2000s.

Was up by our place and met up with some friends that live in Eagle River.  She works for one of the resorts and volunteers at the track.  She said the resorts, derby track and town were really happy with the turn out and the way the events went for both snowcross races.  They would really like to see it returned for next year and beyond.

it wouldn't surprise me to see it on the schedule , I haven't talked to carl yet about dates/locations for next year though. We stayed in houses both weekends and that was great vs staying in a hotel.

Unusual grooming request.  Our club president has some ties with EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) grounds manager.  EAA has a small annual winter fly in that there had been some issues in the past on the landing strip.  2 years ago we got asked to come over and groom the landing strip for the event.

I was on a work trip out that way back in late August of 2018. It was 108 in Phoenix, 68 in Flagstaff when we got there around dinner time. Woke up to 42 and rain/snow mix the next morning in Flag. The Sedona/Flagstaff area is beautiful.

My niece got married in Sedonna outside wedding amongst the mountains.  Like you said beautiful area.  She said she will never move back to Wisconsin.  She came back twice for Christmas with her husband and their flight back out was posted because of snow storms each time.  😊

Get over the winter depression?

My new shop is like "the place" to go every 2-3-4 weeks to sit around, have a drink, and talk sleds.  Sometimes we have 15-20 people in there just having a good time talking about the old days, races gone by, etc.  Hours at a time.  Sometimes it is morning coffee on a Saturday, some

Everyone from guys in their 80's who were sledding in the 60's to mountain guys, club members, racers & former racers, just local guys who used to ride, etc.

That would be awesome. I use to have a group of guys back home, Ike that. We would sit in a work shop/barn and bullshit about everything all day long.

Back in 1999 SnowGoer ran an article who was going to be the 5 manufacture being Fast, Scorpion or Redline.  All had made some sleds and they're floating around but Fast gave it the best effort.  Now we're just hoping to keep the manu factures we have today.

In 1989 we were still reading plugs and piston wash for what to change jetting to and once you got through your run you were pulling the chock and blipping the throttle to get fuel in the cool things down.  In 1989 snow week had a small article where Dave Edwards showed up with a computer on his sled.  It didn't really tune anything but monitored Motor RPM, Jack shaft and drive shaft RPM, exhaust temp and fuel pressure.  You still had to manually change jets.  Today you have guys that have never road a sled developing/adding a tune if you want to deviate from the factor tune.  The ECU now basically takes care of the everything and protects the motor very conservatively.   How times have changed.

Yamaha's 1992 Vmax 4.  I've seen some of these run strong and others well.....  Some neat idea's and concepts on these sleds and still have a good following today.

First time in riding Grand Mesa. From the little bit i was able too see and ride lots of large meadows. They had received 22" weekend before i was there and local guy said the weekend was best riding all year!

Lots of steep and deep if you want to get into trouble!!Hopefully I will get back out there and spend a week!!

Local said riding consists of 123miles north to south and about 45 miles wide.

That is a good size hunk to ride . Not sure I ever get more than 10 miles from the trailer when out west lol

The late 90's was the time for triple triples. Each manufacture had multiple size triple triples in sizes ranging from 600cc to 1000cc. Nothing like the sound of a triple triple. Snow tech had a nice article of the triple triples being offered for the 1999 season.

Cool pics of brand new vintage sleds. Not to be nit-picky but I believe those are 1989 sleds, maybe the pics were taken in 88?
