Our Pug developed those stones also at about 5 years of age but didn't need surgery. The special food was enough to dissolve and prevent new stones from forming. She has been on the special diet food ever since without any stone recurrence and will be 18 years old in April. Some dogs happen to be susceptible for stone formation...Your dog will be fine on the new food.
