KIRKLAND LAKE - On Feb. 4, 2021, members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a Motorized Snow Vehicle (MSV) on Burnside Drive in the Town of Kirkland Lake.

The MSV accelerated toward the officer who was standing outside of the cruiser and was nearly hit. The operator of the MSV was taken into custody shortly thereafter.

 

 

As a result, Damian Pronovost, 19 years of age, of Kirkland Lake, has been charged with the following:

  • Dangerous operation, contrary to section 320.13(1) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Assault a peace officer with a weapon, contrary to section 270.01(1)(a) of the CC,
  • Flight From peace officer, contrary to section 320.17 of the CC,
  • Drive - no insurance, contrary to section 12(1) of the Motorized Snow Vehicle Act (MSVA),
  • Fail to stop for police officer, contrary to section 17.1(1) of the MSVA,
  • Drive motorized snow vehicle, permit not issued, contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the MSVA,
  • Drive motorized snow vehicle, trail permit not issued, contrary to section 2.1(1) of the MSVA, and
  • No licence, drive upon public trail, contrary to section 9(3)(b) of the MSVA.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, on March 25, 2021.

If your business has already paid for advertising for the 2020/2021 season, your payment will be carried over till the 2021/2022 season. Greater Sudbury Police handed out a few anti-love notes on Valentine’s Day to snowmobilers on various trails.

Officers stopped 58 snowmobiles on Feb. 14 to ensure safe and sober operation, issuing six warnings and six Provincial Offence Act fines as a result.

Furthermore, two people from Wallaceburg who were visiting Sudbury to go sledding during the stay-at-home order were fined under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act.
