when i was in pepin they have streets plowed pretty good so you will have a bit of a trek through town also.

when crossing at kellys just stay down river a little from point.spot that opens up first in spring is about  30' wide channel just out from point.

Looks a bit chilly for weekend but going to be some nice trails!!

Yup!  These little snows we are getting today, and supposedly Friday will really freshen things up!

There are a fair amount of tracks in front of Kelly’s today, but they look like they turn around at the gray spot out there - we left the only 4 tracks from the Sportsman’s Club to Pepin, WI yesterday and today…it’s about 5 miles going this way.

Like you @Sled_Hed ... I'll believe it when I see it!  But yep, the groomer will be ready to go.  It's just a matter of how much snow and if we'll be depending on sleds to get out and help pack stuff down, or not.

Even if we can get 6" here it will make everything real good again unless the damn wind blows it off the trail.

6” would get blown around, those numbers on the map won’t all be gone…

about 6-8" last night.we discussed whether we will be grooming after this storm at club meeting last night?

Issue we have is our trails are solid ice and may not be able to pull hills and waterways have large ponds in them and groomer may break through?

See how sticky snow is when all said and done friday.

All i can say if riding our area this weekend be careful!!

One of the clubs up by Grand Rapids rolled their trails already to pack it down.  Another one north of there is asking riders to pack down the trails before they send groomers out.  All that ice underneath, it's almost like starting the season over again.  Hopefully, you guys will have groomed trails for this weekend.

I know our club (based out of Frontenac ... Lake City / Frontenac / Hay Creek area) ... we'll be sending the groomer out Friday AM more than likely.  Our biggest concern is the hill roads/trails since a lot of them were pretty much glare ice prior to this snow.  Having a groomer slide down, whether it's forwards or backwards, is not a good thing - so we're a bit nervous.  The other trails on the flatland areas aren't too much of a concern, but still need people to be safe.  We had already planned to be up in the Ojibwa, WI area this weekend and sticking with that plan so I hope the roads will be good Friday.  And if things are settled down and groomed up good over the weekend, I can look forward to local riding next week.

I don't think we are going to open.  To your point about the groomers and the hills @Bontz we have steel tracks on our two piston bullies.  With the bullet point picks.  The guys that sold us our newest one shipped it with rubber tracks and we said we paid for steel.  They told us to try the rubber and after one run they drove down from the cities with a set of steel tracks.  They are hard on concrete and roads but boy not having you ass pucker on our steep STEEP hills is worth it!

Made it out both days this weekend, first time I've put on more than a mile or two at home this season.

Saturday I went up towards Jordan and Belle Plaine and then down to Le Center for a burger at the Little Dandy.  The place was packed, almost an hour and a half to stop for a burger.  Trails were really busy, never seen that many sleds out on our trails like I did on Saturday.  Snow was really loose, 80 miles on the day and I came back with the low fuel light on.

Sunday I went down through Waterville, over to Faribault, and up to Millersburg for a burger at Boonies.  Not as long of a wait there but the burger wasn't as good either.  Found the trail bypass around Waterville to the lake and then stopped at Casey's to top off tank for the day.  Trails were absolutely beat once I left Faribault.  Threw everything at the Lynx that day and it handled it like a champ!  90 miles on the day.

Pictures are from Sunday.

Any word on the trails in your area?  Couple of us are thinking of another Lake City run this weekend, guys ride, girls drive...

Funny you ask.  I had a group text going with the other officers in our club, and I hate to say it but I think we're going to end up closing our trails until further notice.  The trail we maintain in Lake City, that runs through the Jewel and intersects with Hwy63 on the south end of town had a lot of ice on it from standing water.  And I heard the fields were starting to show a lot of wear, even before the rain.  Keep an eye on our Facebook page (Wells Creek Riders), but it's looking like I'll be putting a post to communicate we're closed.

Storm brewing for later this week.  They haven't said much about it other than there is a possibility.   John Dee saying 8-12 which is actually less than the models are showing right now.

Saturday hopefully.  Trails here still had some base left.  Got another few inches today that will slow down the melting.

Flying out first thing Sunday morning.
