Wisconsin, Snowmobiles, and EVERS.

Recommended Posts

The deception is high among our current state leadership in Wisconsin.

the Department of Natural Resources was reaching out to snowmobile clubs and instructing them to remove the signage for establishments currently along ATV/UTV and snowmobile routes throughout the state.

Secretary Cole explained to us that the Department was simply following the law, as laid out in NR 45.04 (3) (f), written in 1964, which prohibits advertising of businesses on state land.

WAOW) — Twenty one legislators sent a letter to Gov. Tony Evers over action they say is "dangerous to the sportsmen and women of Wisconsin."

They say the Department of Natural Resources instructed snowmobile clubs last week to remove signage for establishments along ATV/UTV and snowmobile routes throughout the state. These signs allegedly have been along the routes for decades and are emblematic of a public-private relationship and the foundation of tourism for the Northwoods.

"The funding for the signs comes from fundraisers they host at the taverns and supper clubs along the routes," the letter reads. "The bars and restaurants have flyers and pamphlets they hand out from the DNR about riding safely. This is a devastating blow to that relationship."

They also say that the signs are a matter of safety — they're used as markers in the case that anyone is separated from a snowmobile party, or in the case of emergency to direct EMT's.

"Secretary Cole explained to us that the Department was simply following the law, as laid out in NR 45.04 (3) (f), written in 1964, which prohibits advertising of businesses on state land," the letter reads. "We find it perplexing that the DNR is choosing now- mid-pandemic, following a shaky summer tourism season, and before an already imperiled winter season, to revise their approach to a 56 year old rule."

The legislators are calling this move an "attack on the Northwoods tourism industry," and say they are reaching out to work on a solution.

First step to shutting down snowmobiling to reduce covid infections

Yup, I'm afraid so.  The WI legislature said there was a way to keep them if they were under a contractual obligation.

Clubs should have business memberships available to everyone in their area.  Any business who joins the club could have in their business membership contract the benefit of placing signs along the trails.  Not only is it a convenience to riders, incentive to business to support clubs, it's a safety issue.  People trying to get to destinations that may not be familiar with the area or are lost rely on those signs for guidance.  Many businesses are located on local trails that are not well signed, maintained, or visible on the trail maps.

Can't imagine how much work this would be in Vilas county specifically Bo-Boen and surrounding clubs.   While I'm not sure what % of trails are private vs state land the business signs are at every intersection and more.

I basically only pay attention to the bar signs and not the "towns."

Man, sure didn't get many responses.  Figured a snowmobile subject related to covid and politics might get more that what it did.

If Biden wins, you won't be riding snowmobiles in 5 years anyway.

Amazing at the support Evers, Biden and any other dems get from snowmobile enthusiasts.  The dem party is anti motorsports constantly and yet we still have people here that support them.

I don't really understand the issue here. How is this different than going to a restaurant. Most of us I assume, wear a balaclava when we ride. Stop somewhere, take our helmet off, find a seat and take the balaclava off in order to eat/drink. Am I missing something?

This is a kick in the nuts for the northwoods which is hard enough to survive in the winter for alot of those businesses.

I ride mostly in the national forest. These lands were put aside for everyone to enjoy. Screw these people with a stick up their ass about motorsports.

:fuckyou:

Evers is pissed off because the tavern league of WI is suing him for keeping the bars and restaurants shut down or at very limited capacity.

His way of "getting them back"

I read (so take that with a grain) that the DNR said nothing can or will be done this year about it. And they are hopeful a resolution will be found in the future.

BTW this is just about state owned land. Not private land OR county owned lands.

Apparently it is in relation to one sign in particular from what I have heard.

Regardless, if these 25% capacity limits on bars are restaurants are in effect this winter it will kill the snowmobiling season for bars and restaurants.  Or, more likely, they just won't follow it.

This kind of bullshit crap is exactly what the taxpayers are sick and tired of.  Evers vs Tavern League, so Evers tries to force the removal of advertising signs that SNOWMOBILE riders use to navigate.  What a really juvenile action that effects taxpayers much more than the tavern league.  Fucker is a first class piece of shit.  That is exactly why I signed the recall petition yesterday.

Prediction might not be as crazy as one would think.   Reports are Sanders is pushing for a cabinet level position.   A environmental nutbag like that could have dire consequences for sledding on fed public ground as Sec of the Interior or head of the EPA.

You know who the biggest threat to snowmobiling here is...Snowmobilers. Trails are lost everyday because disphits won’t stay on trail. We will kill our sport long before any politician does.

Bullshit.  Yes, there are some dipshits that hurt it for others on PRIVATE LAND, but the biggest threat to ride on state land is POLITICIANS that hate motorsports.

This state loses trails every year because of people not staying on trail and there are also many riders that act like dipshits on state land as well...leaving garbage behind..ect...sure there are some politicians that don’t like the sport but we as a group need to stop giving them ammunition. Maybe you should work on that and help make changes to attitudes instead of crying here.
