I missed out on buying a active green and ross tire store, another opportunity to buy a mr transmission came up so I wanted to speak to someone on whats involved with owning a tranny shop. I know stevie would stop by all the time and ask to see the trannies...

BTW i'm looking to buy a franchise or an existing business in the GTA, if you have any good ideas or know of any businesses for sale, please let me know. ( no food businesses. )

If you expand it enough, you do not need to work the tools...your employees will do that for you.

Sure does not seem to be no shortage of home reno work these days.

Considering how complex shit is these days forcing the need for lots of special tools and diagnostic equipment, also the long manufacturers warranties, I'm not sure if an auto transmission business would be a good venture.

I don't know, it's fairly specialized so there is no way the regular mechanics or dealers are doing it.  Need to look at the financials.

Most dealers have a specialist that just does transmission. Obviously would be brand specific and not all makes like a private shop

I am somewhat surprised by that, but other than warranty repair there is no way I would use an OEM for that.  Nothing against them, just would prefer to have it done by guys who do nothing else.

This is true....for any dealers that I know of someone that works there.

There are usually specific guys for front ends, PDI's, electrical, transmissions, etc....

Lots of people like to deal with dealers, and of course lots that do not.

Depending on the complexity of the repair, the dealer tech will do it, or they have their list of specialty shops as well they tend to use.

Sometimes the dealer is the better choice, could be a PCM reprogram vs the expense of an overhaul that not every trans shop is aware of. Depends on the symptom and of course a good tech at the dealer
