1trailmaker
Residents from Sturgeon Falls to North Bay and Mattawa received a hint Thursday of what it was like for those living closer to the forest fires in Temagami and Cochrane. Forest fires near Highway 69 south of Sudbury and north of Warren sent thick plumes of smoke into the air in the afternoon and winds carried them east to the Nipissing District beginning close to 5 p.m. There's also a new fire closer to Parry Sound. North Bay Mayor Al McDonald posted a message from Fire Chief Jason Whitely on Facebook later in the evening. "The haze of smoke that has enveloped the city is from forest fires west of the city or from a new fire in the Parry Sound area. There is not a fire in the North Bay area, either structural or forest," Whitely said, adding it's a health hazard, especially for the young, old and those with breathing issues. "Prolonged exposure to the smoke may cause individuals to experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, head aches or short of breath. Children, seniors and those with cardiovascular and lung disease, such as asthma could be at risk." Staying indoors is recommended.

Last year we went to Banff and drove to Jasper, smoke was so bad could not even see the mountains on the drive up, back down it was OK. soupkid
Key river fire is now 19 square kms. Evacuation orders issued for key and French river boat access properties. 1trailmaker
Fire has jumped Key River - a lot of cottages will be gone after this one, the building can be replace but the scenery can't... A very active Parry Sound 33 fire grew considerably to 1,900 hectares. The aggressive fire behaviour early on in the day prompted an evacuation of the Key River area as a precaution. Ontario Provincial Police officers and Conservation Officers facilitated the evacuation, and safely guided all residents and members of the public out of the area. It has been confirmed that the fire, which had started on the south side of the Key River, has now also spread to the north side of the Key River, into French River Provincial Park. revrnd
On the 6th driving down 11 we saw smoke from a fire just west of Cobalt. There had been quite a thunderstorm system go thru the day before. Over the next 2 days all hell broke loose with fires breaking out near River Valley, Temagami & Elk Lake. The dry spring we've had, sure hasn't helped matters. Quote Idgit 2 doors down had a bonfire today before the rain despite the ban in the township, called the fire dept. Always building fires in his backyard & then leaving them to burn unattended. The guy is dumber than a stump, proof than anyone can procreate...he 'made' 2 rugrats with the gold digger that snagged him (that's a story for another day kids). They pick closest lakes possible. When the Brechin fire was on a few weeks ago there were 4 bombers picking up in Canal Lake. My parents have video. Nothing was said about stopping boaters. I guess the pilots expect common sense.
