The Syrian air defenses not only missed the incoming missiles but they kept firing even after the last U.S., British and French strikes were complete. Some of those more than 40 Syrian missile interceptors, he suggested, might have hit civilian targets.

"When you shoot iron into the sky without guidance, it will inevitably fall to earth," McKenzie told reporters.

Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White warned that Russia was actively attempting to sow confusion about the attack.

"The Russian disinformation campaign has already begun. There has been a 2,000 percent increase in Russian trolls in the last 24 hours," White said.

False. They were designed as anti-aircraft missles, to that end they were quite good. Once the first Gulf War started they had to make the missle effective against other missles. It hit its target often but it failed to destroy the warhead. It was not a flaw of the missile since it was never designed to shoot other missiles, it was just our best option at the time.

You would be wrong. The Patriot missile batteries struck only 9% of their targets during the gulf war. That’s according to the general accounting office. The Israelis report that they were 2% effective. I’m well aware of what the patriots were designed for. The truth is, the military lied.

Those stats you got from the slate article are hugely disingenuous. They consider it a fail if it didn't destroy the warhead. As already pointed out the missile system was never intended to shoot down other missiles, it was designed for anti-aircraft. At the onset of the Gulf War there was a mad dash to "re-calibrate" or whatever the correct word is to try and make it effective against missiles. It did in fact intercept the Scuds but often failed to destroy the warhead, this cant be counted as fail though since the missile system was never designed for that. It was merely our best option at the time. It was far from perfect but it did well considering it was asked to do a job it wasn't designed to do.
